SHELBY — Thelma Elizabeth Roberson Thomas, 81, of 602 Charles Rd., died Jan. 10, 2003. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Sunset Cemetery.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a retired nurse at Cleveland Memorial Hospital and attended Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

Born in Iredell County, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Claremont and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Marines. He was a machine operator at Direction Furniture

CATAWBA — George Linden Pope, 51, of 107 3rd Ave. S.W., died Jan. 11, 2003. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Born in Iredell County, he was a U.S. Navy Vietnam War veteran and a self-employed painting contractor.

Theresa Rita Edwards, 80, of 622 E. Dixon St., died Jan. 12, 2003. A funeral service was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Dorothy’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery in South Glen Falls, N.Y. on Saturday.
Born in Albany County, N.Y., she was a homemaker.

Born in Kings Mountain, she worked for the Eli Mason family in New York for 48 years.

Born in Burke County, he was a U.S. Army WWII veteran and was retired from the T.L. Dysard Company.

Born in Caldwell County, she served 50 years as a volunteer in the infant nursery at her church and was self-employed, working as an upholsterer for 35 years.
Survivors include her husband, Hubert E. Triplett; four sons, Hubert Triplett Jr., Larry Triplett, and Bobby Triplett, all of Shelby, and Carroll Triplett of Lexington, S.C.; three sisters, Annabel Severs, Virginia Craig, and Barbara Lowman, all of Lenoir; eight grandchildren, Chris Triplett, Tim Triplett, Jeff Triplett, Matt Triplett, Britt Triplett and Ashley Triplett, all of Shelby, and Daniel Triplett and Susan Triplett of Lexington, S.C.; and ten great-grandchildren.

Born in Lincolnton, he was a Korean and Vietnam wars U.S. Army veteran who retired retiring from the military after 27 years. He then retired from Hickory Springs Mfg.
Survivors include two sisters, Linda Finger and Mary Ann Finger Belton, both of Lincolnton; and a brother, Alfred Finger of Lincolnton.
Ray Sain
Ray Benjamin Sain, 77, of 3958 West N.C. 27 Hwy., died Jan. 13, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Messiah United Methodist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in the Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 tonight at Carpenter’s Funeral Home in Cherryville.
Born in Lincoln County, he was retired from Carolina Freight Carriers in the parts department after 27 years of service. He was a member of the Good Sam Club of Cherryville.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Eaker Sain; two daughters, Judy Heafner of Crouse and Beth Sain of Dillard, Ga.; a sister, Mary S. Abernathy of Vale; four grandchildren, Jeff Heafner, Tamara Rhyne, Cain Hallman and Luke Hallman; and four great-grandchildren.

Loy Sain
Loy Clay “Pete” Sain, 68, of 2222 Laboratory Road, died Jan. 15, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a retired supervisor with Edmos Corp. and was the Captain of the Detective Division of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Dept. He was also a charter member of the Lincoln County Life Saving Crew.
Survivors include his wife Jessie H. Sain; a son, Rick Sain of Lincolnton; a daughter, Crystal Ann Sain of the home; a brother, Norris Sain of Pasadena, Md.; four sisters, Bernice Callahan of Gibson, Linda Hawkins and Brenda Heavner, both of Lincolnton, and Ethel “Butch” Warlick of Vale; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Rev. John Thornburg
SHERRILLS FORD — Rev. John Jacob Thornburg, 75, of 9716 Riviera Drive, died Jan. 14, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Olivet Baptist Church. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. in Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a lifelong pastor, starting at Patterson Grove Baptist Church in Kings Mountain which was his home church, then Albertson Road Baptist in High Point, Edgewood Baptist in Winston-Salem and Pleasant View in Morganton. He was president of of Edgewood Christian School, which he helped start and was interim at numerous churches since his retirement. He also served in the Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife Nellene Sipes Thornburg; one son, David Thornburg of Yadkinville; one daughter, Francene Taylor of Mocksville; four sisters, Vera Watts of Marquette, Mich., Flora Warren of Highland, Ozelle Champion of Wilmington, and Willodene Bell of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren, James Taylor, Traci Taylor, and Anthony Thornburg; and one great-grandchild, Breanna Thornburg.
