MAIDEN — Eugene “Gene” Neal Caldwell, 62, of 5246 South N.C. 16, died Sept. 18, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Anderson Baptist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at Burke Mortuary.
Born in Catawba County, he was a U.S. Army veteran, and worked as an electrician with Right Angle Electric Company.
Survivors include his wife, Sybil Stallings Caldwell; a son, Derek Caldwell of Maiden; a daughter, Angie Caldwell Younger of Maiden; two brothers, Dwight Caldwell of Maiden and Wayne Caldwell of Claremont; three sisters, Eunice Caldwell Waugh of Mooresville, Cleo Caldwell Beard, and Mae Nell Caldwell Poston, both of Maiden; and two grandchildren, Dylan Younger and Jessica Younger.

SHELBY — Mark Dwayne Chambers, 29, of 1630 Friendship Road, died Sept. 18, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at New Ellis Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

GASTONIA – Inez Parker York Hull, 94, of Alexandria Place, formerly of Charlotte, died Sept. 21, 2002. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Richmond County, she was employed as a supervisor in housekeeping at the Barringer Hotel until retirement.
Survivors include one son, Walter William “Bill” York of Lincolnton; one daughter, Doris “Dot” Woodard of Denver; one sister, Annie Cole of Greensboro; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Russell Hager
DENVER -– Russell Thompson Hager, 93, of 6664 Campground Road, died Sept. 21, 2002. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today at Denver United Methodist Church where he was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he worked with Union Carbide until retirement.
Survivors include one son, Charles R. Hager of New London; three daughters, Jacquelyn Price of Mt. Holly, Ann Cloninger of Denver, and Emily Murr of Ft. Mill, S.C.; two step-daughters, Jane Thomas of Green Mountain, and Sue Sherrill of Denver; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Born in Cabarrus County, she was a homemaker.

Walter Goodman

Born in Ashe County, he was a U.S. Army WWII veteran, and was employed in commercial and residential construction until retirement.

Born in Cleveland County, he served in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Korea, and was a quartermaster at the local VFW post.

HICKORY – Zula Hager Williams, 73, of the Brian Center East, formerly of Right Angle Street, Sherrills Ford, died Sept. 21, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Beth Haven Baptist Church in Denver where she was a member. Burial will follow with a graveside service at 1 p.m. in Forrest Lawn-West Cemetery in Charlotte. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Born in Gaston County, she was employed with Mid-South Water Company until retirement.
