Burial will follow in Mt. View Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 3:30 until 5:30 p.m.
She was born in Catawba County.
Survivors include her parents, Todd and Melanie Lawing Painter of the home; and grandparents, Bobby and Phoebe Painter, and Jerry and Winifred Lawing, all of Maiden.

Born in Cleveland County, she was a retired production supervisor with Temp-Vent.
Survivors include her husband, Glenn Pearson; one son, Wayne Hull of Charlotte; a sister, Wilma Lowder of Lincolnton; three grandchildren, Jennifer Anne Hull, Natalie Rebecca Hull, and Hunter Thomas Hull; and one great-grandchild.

STANLEY – Margaret Louise Lackey Lundy, 74, died Sept. 22, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Raymer Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Iredell Memorial Gardens in Statesville.
She was born in Iredell County.

GASTONIA – Masie Fortenberry Thomas, 67, of 1103 Kensington Avenue, died Sept. 23, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Founder’s Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors. Entombment will follow in Gaston Memorial Park.
Born in Maiden, she was self-employed as a beautician, the owner and operator of Masie’s Coiffiers and Wigs of Gaston Mall, and worked as a security officer with Security Forces in Gastonia. She was a member of Assembly Faith WOC Church of Dallas.
Survivors include her husband, Robert W. Thomas Sr.; two sons, Robert W. Thomas Jr. of Wilmington, and Brian Lee Thomas of McGaskeyville, Va.; three daughters, Frankie Sue Lynn “Cricket” Carver, and Robin Denise Ilges, both of Gastonia, and Dawn Elizabeth Cloer of Charlotte; one brother, Flint Thomas Fortenberry of Dallas; 13 grandchildren, Robert W. Thomas III, Matthew Thomas, Keith Fortenberry Jr., Amberlee Treadway, Vann Carver, Jarred Carver, Annie Carver, Crystal Conner, Michael Cook Jr., Lisa Cook, CarterThomas, Brian Thomas Jr., and Caithlyn Thomas; and four great-grandchildren.

NEWTON – George “Buck: Sidney Drum, 79, of 3941 South Olivers Cross Road, died Sept. 22, 2002. A funeral service was held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church where he was a member and trustee. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Catawba County, he was a U.S. Army WWII veteran, a recipient of the Bronze Star, and Purple Heart, and was employed as a carpenter for Yount Lumber Company until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine M. Drum; a daughter, Cathy Hollar of Maiden; one brother, Ernest C. Drum of Maiden; two sisters, Lou Ella Story and Lucille Holland, both of Maiden; and one grandchild, Amanda Hollar of Statesboro, Ga.

Born in Mecklenburg County, he was a U.S. Army Air Corps. WWII veteran who received the Bronze Star, Silver Star, and Air Medal with two Oak Leaf clusters. He was employed with Maiden Castings until retirement, and worked for R&R Enterprises.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Perkins Saunders; one son, Larry Saunders of South Carolina; two daughters, Teresa Ravey of Lincolnton and Jackie Mabry of Dallas; one sister, Pauline Hovis of Virginia; two brothers, Bill Saunders and Bobby Saunders, both of Maiden; and six grandchildren, Angie Crisp, Christopher Saunders, Nicholas H. Saunders, Elizabeth Saunders, and Chloe Mabry.

Born in Lincoln County, she worked as a cloth inspector for Leslie Fay until retirement.
Survivors include her husband, Walter “Pete” Harris; a son, Billy W. Harris of Lincolnton; a daughter, Tonya L. Harris of the home; and three grandchildren, Wayne Harris, Jonathan Harris, and Cassidy Harris.
Edith Canipe
STATESVILLE – Edith Mae Canipe, 88, of the Brian Center, formerly of Killian Road, Lincolnton, died Sept. 25, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Messiah United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Bethel Methodist Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she worked in the furniture industry until retirement, was a farmer, and a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, Wilford Lee Canipe of Vale, Bobby Dean Canipe, and James Ray Canipe, both of Lincolnton; four daughters, Catherine Isenhour of Conover, Daphine Hastings of Newton, Lela Childers of Lincolnton, and Jo Ann Hastings of Statesville; three sisters, Vera Reep, Madeline Blackwelder, and Hazel Wood, all of Vale; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Born in Lincoln County, he was a U.S. Army WWII veteran, and was employed with Cannon Mills until retirement. He was a member of the American Legion of Maiden.

Jones of Lincolnton; two brothers, John Wade Hartzoge of Lincolnton, and Paul Monroe Hartzoge of Maiden; and four grandchildren, Jason Hartzoge, Jacquelyn Jones, Dawn Hartzoge, and David Hartzoge.
