Ned Beam
CHERRYVILLE - Ned Beam, 75, of 2010 Lincolnton Highway, died Sept. 29, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. at Carpenter’s Funeral Home prior to the service.
Born in Cherryville, he was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran, and worked as a general superintendent with Beam’s Construction Company until retirement.
Survivors include three sons, Kyle Beam of Huntersville, and Blair Beam and Mark Beam, both of Cherryville; two stepsons, Michael Jarrett of Booth Bay Harbor, Maine, and Bruce Jarrett of Clemson, S.C.; one daughter, Robin Cox of Cherryville; 14 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.

E. Hunsucker Sr.
CLAREMONT – Everette Eugene Hunsucker Sr., 86, of Boggs Road, died Sept. 29, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. View United Methodist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Born in Catawba County, he was a U.S. Army WWII veteran, and was self-employed as a brick mason.
Survivors include two sons, Everette Eugene Hunsucker Jr. of Claremont and Thomas Eric Hunsucker of Hickory; two daughters, Norma H. Smith, and Donna H. Wehunt, both of Claremont; three brothers, John Hunsucker, Fred Hunsucker, and James Hunsucker, all of Claremont; a sister, Catherine H. Boleman of Cayce, S.C.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

SHELBY – Stacey Paul Parrott, 48, of 109 Maple Street, died Sept. 28, 2002.

Frances Lutz
WACO – Frances Houser Lutz, 91, of 200 North Main Street, died Sept. 27, 2002. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Waco Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial followed in Capernaum Cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, she worked as a beautician, and for Fiber Ind. until retirement. She also served as clerk at her church, and was a long time member of the Waco Women’s Club.
Survivors include one son, Horace Lutz; one brother, George Houser of Gastonia; a sister, Lois Williams of Clemson, S.C.; one grandchild, Jason Heath Lutz; and one great-grandchild.

Odessa Graham
RIDGEWAY, S.C. – Odessa Hoke Graham, 90, of Fairfield Health Care Center, formerly of Denver, died Sept. 26, 2002. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Amity Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she was employed with J.P. Stevens until retirement.
Survivors include one son, Mike Graham of Sherrills Ford; two daughters, Sue Laney of Great Falls, S.C., and Jeanette Grass of Ontario, Canada; one sister, Marjorie Robinson of Great Falls, S.C.; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

CHERRYVILLE – Essie Mae Abernathy Spake, 82, of North Mountain Street, died Sept. 27, 2002. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. today in City Memorial Cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, she was a member of Second Baptist Church and worked for Howell Manufacturing until retirement.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Jean Dellinger of Cherryville; a sister, Minnie Norris of Gastonia; two grandchildren, Chuck Dellinger, and Steve Dellinger; and five great-grandchildren.

Roland Hill Sr.
CHERRYVILLE – Roland Lemuel Hill Sr., 76, of 2025 Eaker Drive, died Sept. 27, 2002. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home. Burial followed in Gaston Memorial Park.
Born in Gaston County, he was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran, and worked as a supervisor for Dover Textiles until retirement. He was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his wife Juanita H. Hill; three sons, Roland “Bill” L. Hill Jr. of Gastonia, Rocky Bennett of Cherryville, and Bobby Bennett of Alexis; two daughters, Sherry Hayes of Cherryville, and Mary Ann Bennett of the home; two brothers, Earl Hill of Gastonia, and Barton Hill of Wilmington; one sister, Thelma Austin of Gastonia; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Walter Manley Jr.
Walter Harris Manley Jr., 80, of 4279 Highway 150 East, died Sept. 28, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Warlick Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Born in Greenville County, S.C., he was a U.S. Army WWII veteran, and worked with the N.C. Division of Highways for 53 years until retirement. He was a member of the Post 240 in Maiden, the Oasis Temple A.A.O.M.M.J. of Charlotte, and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry S.J., USA of Charlotte.
Survivors include three sons, Walter H. Manley III of Nashville, Tenn., Louis Ross Manley of Kings Mountain, and David Todd Manley of Fort Erwin, North Carolina 28012.

Jay Dale
NEWTON - Jay Tuett Dale, 71, of 316 S. Main Avenue, died Sept. 15, 2003. A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a member. The family will receive friends following the service. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Eastview Cemetery.
Born in Burke County, he was a U.S. Veteran serving in the Navy, former Newton City employee, member of the Methodist Men and member of Walking on the Edge Hiking Club.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Herman Dale of the home; one sister, Luann Sherrill of Sherrills Ford and two brothers, Bennett Dale of Charlotte and Francis Dale of Maiden.

Azalee Primm McConnell, 92, of 2030 Shuford Road, died Sept. 16, 2003. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Asbury United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 tonight at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, she was retired from J.P. Stevens.
