WACO — Hillard T. “Lawn Mower Man” Huffstetler, 81, of 312 Main St., died Oct. 16, 2001. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church where he attended. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at Carpenter’s Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, he worked as a driver for Carolina Freight Carriers, and owned Lawn Mower Repairs in Cherryville.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Tate Huffstetler; two sons, Mike Huffstetler of Lattimore and Jeff Huffstetler of Waco; three step-sons, Troy Tate of Cherryville, Jerry Tate of Lincolnton and Dean Tate of Harrisburg; three daughters, Sandra Jones of Waco, Dianne Heavner of Dallas and Lynn Carreker of Locust Grove, Ga.; 24 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Shirley Duncan
MAIDEN — Shirley Ann Lutz Duncan, 60, of 212 E. Klutz St., died Oct. 16, 2001. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at New Hope Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in Westside Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday night from 6 until 8 at Goodin-Drum Funeral Home.
Born in Catawba County, she was an inspector for Regency Bedspread.
Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Diane Lutz of the home; two brothers, Glen Lutz and Billy Lutz, both of Maiden, six sisters, Jean Welch of Maiden, Barbara Sides of Lenoir, Jeanette Waters of Kannapolis, Claudette Moses of Bessemer City, Geneva Flowers of Belmont and Pat Duncan of Newton.

Louise Shrum Caldwell, 81, of 352 Beechnut St., died Oct. 18, 2001. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Riverview Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 until 8:30 at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, she was self-employed in sales.
Survivors include two sons, Kermit Caldwell of Lincolnton and Steve Caldwell of Sherrills Ford; two grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.

Wilhelmina Madeline Rettinger Doucette, 92, of 961 Moorland Lane, died Oct. 17, 2001. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 until 9 at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in New York City, N.Y., she was a past matron of the Eastern Star, an Amaranth Officer, and an ordained Spiritual Minister. She worked in various banking positions and assisted with the Meals on Wheels program for 18 years.
Survivors include her husband, Clifford Henry Doucette; twin sons, Joseph Earl Doucette of Arizona and Paul Henry Doucette of Stafford Springs, Conn.; four daughters, Virginia Hickron and Betty Ann Doucette, both of Connecticut, Nadine Becker and Joyce Atwell, both of Lincolnton; one sister, Myrtle Moran of Connecticut; one step-sister, Cecelia Laine of Connecticut; 27 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren.

Clarice Howell Sigmon, 85, of 212 E. Jennings St., died Oct. 18, 2001. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Born in Dillon, S.C., she was a member of First Baptist Church, Eastern Star, the DAV Auxiliary, the Pilot Club, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was self-employed in clothing sales.
Survivors include one son, William Hicks of Denver; one daughter, Betty Hicks Potts of Lincolnton; one sister, Beatrice H. McCutcheon of Lincolnton; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Tuong Thi Tran, 74, of Lincoln Nursing Center, died Oct. 17, 2001. A funeral service was held at 9 a.m. this morning in Warlick Funeral Home. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Born in Vietnam, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Ty Tran and Ky Lieu of Lincolnton; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mary Mehan
HONOLULU, Hawaii — Mary Patricia Mehan died Sept. 25, 2001.
She was a former resident of West Lincoln, and an employee at West Lincoln Junior High School.
Survivors include two grandsons, Bill Hughes, and Tom Hughes; and four great-grandchildren.

HICKORY — Neal Hubbard Caskey Sr., 72, of 3010 34th St. Dr. N.E., died Oct. 16, 2001. A funeral service was held at 11 this morning at Community Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Coral Park Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a U.S. Army veteran, and retired from Saine & Heavner Trucking of Vale.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Caskey; four sons, Neal Caskey Jr. of Vale, Mike Caskey of Shelby, Mark Caskey and Lee Caskey, both of Lincolnton; two daughters, Mona Howard of Mt. Pleasant and Linda Davis of Lincolnton; one step-daughter, Vaunita Decker of Maiden; one step-son, Toppy Beal of Georgia; a sister, Margie Parker of Concord; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Born in Florence, S.C., she was a teacher in Darlington and Chesterfield County school systems for 30 years. She worked as a special education teacher and chaperoned at the S.C. Special Olympics Games in Columbia.
Survivors include her husband, Samuel O. Tomlinson; two sons, Richard Tomlinson of Crystal River, S.C. and Robert Tomlinson of Lincolnton; one daughter, Sarah Tomlinson of Hartsville, S.C.; two brothers, Willilam Tyson and Duncan Tyson, both of Florence. Born in Lincoln County, she was worked in Charlotte as a secretary until her retirement.

He was retired from Duke Power and served in the U.S. Army.

Born in Lincoln County, he was a disabled World War II veteran and a member of Crouse United Methodist Church.

Black of Cherryville; two brothers, Boyd Dellinger and Ted Dellinger, both of Crouse; one half brother, Jerry Pope of Crouse; three sisters, Margaret Dellinger, Sue George and Jane Bost, all of Crouse; four grandchildren, Tommy Dellinger, Michael Dellinger, Josh Pope and Dusty Pope; and one great-grandson.
