CHERRYVILLE — Barbara “Bobby” Smith Dellinger, 78, of 400 W. Academy St., died Oct. 18, 2001. A funeral service was held Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Cherryville. Burial followed in City Memorial Cemetery.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her son, Michael Dellinger of Cherryville; a daughter, Jill Hudson of Cherryville; one sister, Inez Williams of Thomasville; two grandchildren; Gregg Dellinger, and Holly Randall; and four great-grandchildren.

Timothy Harrison
GASTONIA — Timothy Wayne Harrison, 41, of 2022 Fleetwood St., died Sept. 29, 2001. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Revival Tabernacle in Stanley. Internment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at the church.
Born in Wake County, he was a member of the Revival Tabernacle Church in Lincolnton. He was employed at A.&E.; Plant #15 in Mt. Holly and was active in the Soul Winner’s Club.
Survivors include his wife, Amy Denton Harrison; a son Daniel Wayne Harrison of the home; his parents, Charles R. and Dorothy Bell Harrison of Lincolnton; two brothers, Rev. Robert Harrison of Hayesville and Kenneth Lyden Harrison of Lincolnton; and six sisters, Veda Harrison Franklin and Joye Harrison Bates, both of Lincolnton, Paula Harrison Manus of Sunset Harbor, Tammy Harrison Queen of Long Beach, Marsh Lynn Harrison of Oak Island, and Angie Harrison Gillenwater of Stanley.

Carrie Smith Owens, 78, of 3156 Landers Church Rd., died Sept. 30, 2001. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Antioch Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state 30 min. prior to the service. The family will receive friends, following the service, at the church.

SHERRILLS FORD — Barbara Stokes Philyaw, 59, died Oct. 18, 2001. A funeral service was held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Beth Haven Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Employed with Catawba Valley Vending of Denver, she was also a Sunday School teacher at her church.
Survivors include two daughter, Sonia Ramos of Bellingham, Wash. and Juanita Philyaw of the home; three brothers, Bill Stokes and Bobby Stokes, both of Lexington, and Rayborn Stokes of Las Vegas, Nev.; and three sisters, Betty Bailey of Sherrills Ford, Rochelle Varnum of Supply and Juanita Hughes of Linwood.

Buford Waters
Buford Allen Waters, 79, of Killian Rd., died Oct. 21, 2001. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight at E.F. Drum Funeral Home from 6 until 8.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a U.S. Army WWII veteran, and a dairy farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Dot Waters; one son, Charles “Chuck” Waters of Lincolnton; a daughter, Jill Taylor of Hickory; one brother, Hugh Lee Waters of Lincolnton; three sisters, Edrice Holloway, and Edna Wease, both of Lincolnton, and Ruby Stegall of Marshville; and one grandson, Logan W. Taylor.

Carl Lester Gales, 81, of 2441 Rock Dam Rd., died Oct. 20, 2001. A funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Reepsville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, he was a U.S. Army WWII veteran and worked in the textile industry until retirement.
Survivors include five sons, Lester Gales and Douglas Gales, both of Lincolnton, Wayne Gales of Lucia, Larry Gales of Hickory, and Terry Gales of Vale; two daughters, Dora “Libby” Jones, and Shirley Long, both of Lincolnton; one brother, Marvin Gales of Lincolnton; one sister, Mae Ingle of Lincolnton; 32 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

VALE — Walter “Jr.” Lee Bivens, 66, of 2415 Peeler Rd., died Oct. 19, 2001. A funeral service was held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Macedonia United Methodist Church where he was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he worked at Century Furniture until retirement and was a member of the United Methodist Men at his church.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Clark Bivens; a son, Roger Bivens of Vale; three daughters, June Houser of Hiddenite, and Connie Lindsay, and Annette Parker, both of Vale; five brothers, Will Bivens of Lincolnton, Claude Bivens and Carl Bivens, both of Vale, Pete Bivens of Blacksburg, S.C., and Gary Bivens of Connelly Springs; 10 grandchildren, Heather Hager, Holly Bivens, Casey Bivens, Marsha Bradburn, Tamara Fox, Tifany Bentley, Timmy Houser, Shauna Lindsay, Kierston Lindsay, and Jeremy Parker; and six great-grandchildren.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a bookkeeper for Carlton Yarn Mill, and a member of First United Methodist Church in Cherryville.
Survivors include a son, Charles Schmidt of Cherryville; three daughters, Irene James of Cherryville, Ruthie Price of Shelby, and Karen Humphries of Roanoke, Va.; one sister, Janette Civick of Wantagh, N.Y.; and ten grandchildren.

MAIDEN — Betty Lou Rosenbaum Callahan, 54, of 3778 Grange Rd., died Oct. 19, 2001. A funeral service was held today at 11 a.m. at Living Word Pentecostal Holiness Church. Entombment followed at Catawba Memorial Park.
Born in Grayson County, Va., she was self-employed as a cosmetologist.
Survivors include her husband, Argel Benton Callahan; step-daughter, Regena Callahan of Virginia; step-son, Curtis Callahan of Virginia; sister, Mary Ayrers of Galax, Va.; one brother, H.B. Rosenbaum of Galax, Va.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

HARTSVILLE, S.C. — Marion Tyson Tomlinson, 77, died Oct. 18, 2001. A funeral service was held at 1:30 Sunday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery.
Born in Florence, S.C., she was a teacher in Darlington and Chesterfield County school systems for 30 years. She worked as a special education teacher and chaperoned at the S.C. Special Olympics Games in Columbia.
Survivors include her husband, Samuel O. Tomlinson; twin sons, Richard Tomlinson of Crystal River, Fla., and Robert Tomlinson of Lincolnton; one daughter, Sarah Tomlinson of Hartsville, S.C.; two brothers, William Tyson and Duncan Tyson, both of Florence, S.C.; and one sister, Betty Rhame of Sumter, S.C.

Born in Salem, Ohio, he worked as a hotel manager until retirement.

Born in Lincoln County, she worked as a winder for McBess Industries of Bessemer City until her retirement.

Born in Lincoln County, he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, having served in WWII. He worked for Fredrickson Motors for more than 20 years until his retirement.
Survivors include one son, Johnny Smith of Gastonia; one daughter, Cathy Brown of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Larry Hull “Rusty” Smith II, Dorian Smith, Mindy Smith, Brendan Smith and Millicent Smith; and six great-grandchildren.
