Charles Johnson
Charles Talft Johnson, 92, of 460 Springs East Rd., died Oct. 22, 2001. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Maiden Church of God. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Avery County, he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II. He was a retired textile employee.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice I. Johnson; four sons, Jack D. Johnson of Terrell, Charles T. Johnson Jr. of Clover, S.C., Fred W. Johnson and David E. Johnson, both of Lincolnton; six daughters, Gloria Dean Bryant of Cherryville, Evelyn Isaac of Lincolnton, Emma Stewart of Statesville, Linda Drum of Newton, Susie Davis of Irmo, S.C. and Sherry Watson of Ft. Stewart, Ga.; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.

CHERRYVILLE - Katie Sue Perry Brady, 75, of 201 S. Dixie St., died Oct. 22, 2001. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today in Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home. Burial followed in Palm Tree United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, she was a member of Four Square Gospel Church, and was retired from Meade Knitting.
Survivors include three sons, Douglas Grantt, Watts and Brandon Shane Watts, both of Hickory, and Dwayne Albert Brady of Crouse; and six grandchildren, Tracy Rudisill, Brandi Watts, Misty Goans, Shane Lance Watts, Megan Watts and Dalton Avery Brady.
Marion Tomlinson
HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Marion Tyson Tomlinson, 77, died Oct. 18, 2001. A funeral service was held at 1:30 Sunday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery.
Born in Florence, S.C., she was a teacher in Darlington and Chesterfield County school systems for 30 years. She worked as a special education teacher and chaperoned at the S.C. Special Olympics Games in Columbia.
Survivors include her husband, Samuel O. Tomlinson; twin sons, Richard Tomlinson of Crystal River, Fla., and Robert Tomlinson of Lincolnton; one daughter, Sarah Tomlinson of Hartsville, S.C.; two brothers, William Tyson and Duncan Tyson, both of Florence, S.C.; and one sister, Betty Rhame of Sumter, S.C.

Alfred Tindall
Alfred Marion Tindall, 67, of Cardinal Care and formerly of Charlotte, died Oct. 24, 2001. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 until 9 at the home of Phil and Robin Travis, 353 Highland Dr.
Born in Cherokee County, S.C., he was a Navy veteran who served in the Korean War. He worked as a sheet metal mechanic.
Survivors include two daughters, Angela Tindall of Charlotte and Robin Travis of Lincolnton; three granddaughters, Summer Hedgpeth, Amanda Oakes and Stephanie Seate; and one great-granddaughter.

Born in Lincoln County, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Carolyn Leatherman of Lincolnton; and three grandchildren, John Leatherman, Anna Leatherman and Elly Leatherman, all of Lincolnton.

Ida Davis
CHARLOTTE - Ida Mayer Davis, 86, of 4438 Millbridge Dr., died Oct. 24, 2001. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Lincolnton where she was a member. Burial will follow in York Memorial Park in Charlotte. The family will receive friends Saturday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was Usher Board Chairman, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and served on the Deaconess Board at her church.
Survivors include ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

MAIDEN - Claude Ray Blackwell, 50, of 1180 Maiden Wood Circle, died Oct. 24, 2001. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at the Church of God in High Shoals. The family will receive friends at the home of a sister, Brenda Auton, of 3530 Maiden Highway.
Born in Lincoln County, he worked as an auto mechanic until retirement.
Survivors include two sisters, Brenda Auton of Lincolnton, and Frances Wilson of Maiden.

EARL, N.C. - Charlie Carnell Smith, 63, of Austell Graham Road, died Oct. 21, 2001. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. in the S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel of Enloe Mortuary. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the chapel. At other times, the family will be at the home of Ida McClain at 720 Earl Road, Shelby.
He was a native of Cleveland County.

SPENCER MOUNTAIN - John Elmer Davis Sr., 81, of 1405 Lowell Spencer Mountain Road, died Oct. 22, 2001. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Spencer Mountain Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Gardens.
Born in Atlanta, Ga., he was a Navy veteran of World War II, and worked for Akers Motor Lines until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Freda Harbin Davis; three sons, David H. Davis of Stanley, Harold T. Davis of Gastonia, and Raymond D. Davis of Lincolnton; two daughters, Hilda Faye McKee of Summersworth, N.H., and Diane Davis Goldner of Gastonia; a brother, Charles L. Davis of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Ruby Davis Marshall of Love Valley, S.C.; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Neal Sneed; one son, Chuck Sneed of Lawndale; three daughters, Melissa Cooper of Cherryville, Annette Mayhew, and Donna Avery, both of Lincolnton; his mother, Clara Woods Sneed Gee of Forest City; one brother, Roger Dale Sneed of Forest City; and ten grandchildren; Chatney Whitehair, Shannon Sigmon, Brandon Mayhew, Amisti Cooper, Daniel Sneed, Ashley Mayhew, Matthew Avery, Lindsey Sigmon, Travis Avery, and Cody Cooper.

Born in York County, S.C., she worked for Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Company for 30 years until retirement. She was a life long member of Neely’s Creek ARP Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Eaker of Denver; one brother, Marshall Walker of Rock Hill; two sisters, Mary Kirkpatrick of Winston Salem, and Patsy Pettus of Fort Mill, S.C.; three grandchildren, John Richard Neely Jr. and Laurie Gainey, both of Rock Hill, S.C. and Cindy Nelson of Lake Wales, Fla.; and six great-grandchildren.

Born in Gaston County, she was a member of Freedom Baptist Church in Newton, and worked as a winder for Rhyne Mills.
Survivors include a son, Pete McGinnis of Lincolnton; three daughters, Mary “Janie” Waldrop of Maiden, Beatrice Potter and Vickie Alexander, both of Lincolnton; three sisters, Myrtle Hartsoe of Maiden, Lillian Waldrop and Lois Willis, both of Lincolnton; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.
Harold Benfield
VALE - Harold Lewis Benfield, 58, of 7510 Old Shelby Rd., died Oct. 25, 2001. A funeral service was held Sunday at 3 p.m. in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he was a member. Burial followed in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Catawba County, he was the owner and operator of Benfield Leather Company, and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Molene H. Benfield; a son, Harold Benfield II of Vale; a daughter, Hillery Benfield of Vale; one brother, Rev. Ralph Benfield of Morristown, Tenn.; and two sisters, Coleen Sain and Revonda Heavner, both of Vale.
