Sue Jean Gabriel Fortenberry, 73, of 2630 East Main St., died Oct. 1, 2001. A funeral service was held this morning at 11 at First United Methodist Church where she was a member. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Born in Catawba County, she was a graduate of Kings Business College and worked with her husband at Fortenberry Accounting Service until her retirement. She was a member of the United Methodist Women at her church and a member of the Lincoln Chapter 114 Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include one daughter, Jean “Buffy” Rowe of Alpharetta, Ga.; one sister, Mildred Gabriel Finger of Lincolnton; and two grandchildren, William James Rowe, and Mary Ruth Gabriel Rowe, both of Alpharetta, Ga.

GREENSBORO — Joyce Lawing Baker, of #5 Sommerton Dr., died Sept. 27, 2001. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Warlick Funeral Home Chapel, Lincolnton. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
She was born in Lincoln County.
Survivors include her husband, James W. Baker; her mother and father, Ada P. Lawing and Gaither Lawing, both of Lincolnton; two brothers, Howard Lawing, and Vernon Lawing, both of Lincolnton; two sisters, Ruth Little of Lincolnton, and Brenda Pearce of Denver.

CASAR — Garland Granville Buff, 72, of 330 Jesse Mountain Rd., died Oct. 2, 2001. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Olive Grove Baptist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight at Stamey Funeral Home from 6:30 until 8:30.
Born in Cleveland County; he was the owner of Shady Side Drag Way in Boiling Springs, Harris Speedway of Rutherford County, and Buff’s Superette of Casar. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #579 of Casar.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Lutz Buff; a son, Ronald Garland Buff of Boiling Springs; a daughter, Donna Dianna Buff of Casar; a brother, Steve Buff of Casar; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
William Dellinger
CHERRYVILLE — William Lester “Tracy” Dellinger, 74, of 309 Linwood Ave., died Oct. 1, 2001. A graveside service will be held today at 3 p.m. in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends this afternoon from 1 until 2:30 at Carpenter’s Funeral Home.
Born in Gaston County, he was a retired brick mason with Dixie Lumber Co. and a member of First Baptist Church in Cherryville.
Survivors include one son, John L. Dellinger of Bessemer City; two brothers, J.C. Dellinger and Max Dellinger, both of Cherryville; and four sisters, Ruby Hubbard, and Dorothy Blalock, both of Shelby, Kay Marks of Lincolnton, and Gail Peele of Crouse.

Georgia Lee Rhyne, 86, of 4669 Hunter Rhyne Rd., died Oct. 3, 2001. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church where she was a member. Born in Lincoln County, she was retired from Crowell Hospital.
Survivors include three sons, William Hunter Rhyne, Grady Lee Rhyne, and Darrell Robert Rhyne, all of Lincolnton; five daughters, Clara Crouse, and Betty Poteat, both of Lincolnton, Minnie Dellinger, Catherine Sherrill, and Dorothy Hull, all of Maiden; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild.

STANLEY — David Frank Stuckey, 64, of 1946 Cardinal Loop Rd., died Sept. 26, 2001. A funeral service was held at Alliance Christian and Missionary Alliance at 10 a.m. on Sept. 29. Interment was in Highland Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at 3p.m. Sunday at Denver Wesleyan Church, where he was a member.
Born in Maximo, Ohio, he was a pattern maker who worked for General Motors until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Stuckey; two daughters, Christa Henning of Alliance, Ohio, and Cherie Estridge of Stanley; one son, Wayne Stuckey of Anchorage, Ala.; three sisters, Audrey Rininger, Wanda Anderson, and Vonda Myers, all of Alliance, Ohio; one brother, Art Stuckey of Canton, Ohio; and 11 grandchildren.

Born in Cleveland County, he was the Director of Communications for Carolina Freight Carriers Corp. of Cherryville until his retirement, a member of Cherryville Masonic Lodge #505, the American Legion Post #100, and served on the Board of Directors of the Cherryville Country Club. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include two daughters, Francine Stroupe of Cherryville, and Kim Young of Lincolnton; one brother Keith Young of Jacksonville, one sister, Marilyn Campbell of Lexington; and two grandchildren, Amber Stroupe and Annsley Stroupe.
