CATAWBA – Larry Blane Burchett, 44, of 1678 Buffalo Shoals Road, died Oct. 10, 2002. A funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Missionary United Baptist Church where he was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Grayson County, Va., he was employed with the City of Newton for 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy I. Burchett; two daughters, Chasity Ward of Catawba, and Stacy Reynolds of Maiden; his father, Blane Burchett of Hickory; his mother, Eva H. Burchett of Fries, Va.; two sister, Rita Isenhour of Catawba, and Tammy Burchett of Fries, Va.; and three grandchildren, Grace Ward, Colt Reynolds, Isaac Ward.

CATAWBA – Tommie Decader Dixon, 62, of 1124 Eulalia Lane, died Oct. 10, 2002. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Newton. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at Drum Funeral Home & Cremations in Conover.
Born in Escambia County, Ala., he was a member of the Quarter Century Club and worked with Carolina Mills in Valdese for 37 years until retirement.
Survivors include a daughter, Joanie Edmonson of Claremont; two sons, Thomas Steven Dixon of Lincolnton, and Charles Jeffrey Dixon of Ft. Hood, Texas; his sister, Shirley Copeland of Catawba; one brother, Leo Dixon of Brewton, Ala.; and three grandchildren, Ricky Wallace, Joshua Dixon, and Justin Dixon.
Garry Mitchell
SHELBY – Garry Ray Mitchell, 44, of 3009 Fallston-Waco Road, died Oct. 11, 2002. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today at Waco Baptist Church. An additional funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grandview Funeral Home in Sparta. Burial will follow in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Grandview Funeral Home.
Born in Stanley County, he was an assistant chaplain with Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.
Survivors include his parents, Wayborn and Jean Rector Mitchell of the home; his grandmother, Bessie Rector of Sparta; and two brothers, Ronnie Mitchell of Cherryville, and David R. Mitchell of Shelby.

She was employed as a hairdresser.

Luther Dalton “L.D.” Hoyle, 85, of 495 Southside Church Road, died Oct. 14, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Southside Baptist Church where he was a member. Born in Lincoln County, he was a U.S. Army, WWII veteran, and was employed as manager of Turners Mens Store until retirement. At his church, he was the superintendent of Sunday School, a deacon, and trustee.
Survivors include his wife, Rosalie Hoyle; one brother, Roy “Doc” Hoyle of Lincolnton; and three sisters, Camilla Cass and Velma Christopher, both of Lincolnton, and Margie Aderholt, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

CHERRYVILLE — William John Amo III, 51, of 106 Neman’s Cove, died Oct. 14, 2002. A funerals service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Morley Wesleyan Church in Morley, N.Y. Burial will follow in White Church Cemetery in Lisbon, N.Y. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 2 until 4 p.m., and again from 7 until 9 p.m. at O’Leary Funeral Home in Canton, N.Y.
Born in St. Lawrence County, N.Y., he was employed with food service at St. Lawrence’s Psychiatric Center of New York. He attended Daily Ridge Presbyterian Church, and was a U.S. Marine Corp., Vietnam veteran.
Survivors include his son, William John Amo IV of Libson, N.Y.; three daughters, Pamela Amo and Rhonda Amo Tate, both of New York, N.Y., and Karen Mullikin of Liberty, S.C.; his mother and step-father, Catherine Lewis and Patrick Hourihan of Canton, N.Y.; two brothers, Derek Amo of Norfolk, N.Y., and Clarence Amo of Canton, N.Y.; one sister, Patrician Morrison of Canton, N.Y.; and one grandchild, Chloe Tate of Cherryville, N.C.

Florence J. Anderson, 76, of Cardinal Care in Lincolnton, died today, Oct. 16, 2002. No services are planned at this time.
Born in Portland, Maine, she was a homemaker.

CHERRYVILLE — David Ambrose Brittain, 65, of 707 Delview Road, died Oct. 16, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at First Foursquare Gospel Church where he was a member. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
Born in Cleveland County, he was formerly employed with Cocker Foundry in Gastonia.

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Andrew Jackson McClain, 87, of 716 Sipes Street, died Oct. 15, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Ebenezer Baptist Church where he was a member. Born in York County, S.C., he was served on the usher board, in the spiritual choir, was chairman of the deacon board, president of the Baptist Training Union, and the Friendly Aid at church. He served on the F.H.A. Committee, was employed with the Kings Mountain District Schools, worked as a farmer, was the Worshipful Master of the D.A. McKay Lodge #584, and the Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star Charity Chapter #548.
Survivors include his wife, Dorcas Hunter McClain; nine sons, Paul E. McClain, Rev. Arthur McClain, David McClain, and Joseph McClain, all of Kings Mountain, Theodore McClain of Shelby, Bishop Jesse G. McClain of Lincolnton, Charles O.
