James Cash
Denver area businessman James Cash, 81, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 26 at Webbs Chapel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Eric Reece; burial was in the church cemetery.
A native of Lancaster, S.C., he was born Aug. 25, 1926 to Paul and Mary Cato Cash.
Mr. Cash was a local businessman and building contractor and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Air Force, and also served two tours with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Paul Cash.
Survivors include wife Edith S. Cash of the home; a son, Tommy Cash and wife, Darlene, of Stanley; a daughter Karen Hines and husband, Johnny, of Denver; a brother, Bob Cash of Montgomery, Ala.; a sister Christina Hammond of Denver; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Webbs Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 4640 Webbs Chapel Church Road, Denver, NC 28037.

Joyce ‘Jay’ Sherrill
Mr. Joyce Franklin “Jay” Sherrill, 72, of Highway 73 East, Iron Station died January 26, 2008 surrounded by loving family members at his home.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, January 30) at Webbs Chapel United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. His body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
A native of Lincoln County, Mr. Sherrill was born on September 13, 1935 in Denver to the late Warren Boone Sherrill, Jr. and Mozelle Howard Sherrill. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Roger “Jack” Sherrill, and sister, Darwin Sherrill Brown, both of Denver.
A graduate of North Mecklenburg High School, Mr. Sherrill was employed with Douglas Aircraft Company for 10 years. Later, a banker and restaurateur, he was co-owner of the Big J Drive-In in Lincolnton. He was also employed as a school bus driver for Lincoln County Schools until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Barbara Cloud Sherrill of the home; three sons, John Howard Sherrill of Mt. Holly, Robert Miles Sherrill and wife, Aracelly of Lincolnton, and Jay Franklin Sherrill and wife, Linda of Rockwell; three daughters, Melissa Ann Smith-Rooks of Tucker, GA, Rhonda Lane Sherrill of Shadyside, MD, and Melinda Stacy Sherrill Kaiser and husband Gene of Lincolnton; and 12 grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 N. Cedar St., Lincolnton, NC 28092. Warlick Funeral Home served the Sherrill family.
J.L. ‘Bud’ Barker
Mr. J.L. “Bud” Barker, 83, of Triangle Circle in Denver died January 26, 2008 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held January 29 at Unity Presbyterian Church with Rev. Carol Clark officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with DAV graveside rites.
Mr. Barker was born February 11, 1924 in Lincoln County to the late John Manlen and Laura Bryant Barker. Mr. Barker served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He later retired from Leaksville Woolen Mill where he was a supervisor.
Survivors include his son, Mr. Ronnie Barker of Denver; one brother, Lewis Barker of Stanley; three sisters, Beatrice Sherrill of Huntersville, Pauline Jones of Mt. Holly and Barbara Rumple of Denver; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Memorials may be made to the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Central and Western North Carolina, Inc., Interstate Tower, 121 W. Trade St., Suite 1600, Charlotte, NC 28202 or to the March of Dimes, 904 S. Kings Dr., Charlotte, NC 28201.

Thomas E. Chapman
Thomas Edward Chapman, 63, died recently. He was born December 10, 1944 in Charlotte to the late Truman Edward Chapman and Gladys Ingram Chapman.
Mr. Chapman grew up in Kannapolis. He loved hunting, fishing and his wife, Susan, who preceded him in death. He was a professional hunting and fishing guide and fished competitively, twice qualifying for the Bass Masters Classic tournaments.
Mr. Chapman is survived by one daughter, Rosa Chapman Roberts of Charlotte; three sons, Christopher Wallace Chapman of Greenville, Thomas Seth Chapman of Charlotte, and Shane Starnes of Concord; two stepchildren, Rebecca Jenkins Pomeroy of Lincolnton and Richard Harvey Jenkins of Maryland; one brother, Chris Chapman of Charlotte; and three grandchildren.

Carolyn J. Buchanan
Carolyn Elaine Johnson Buchanan, 61, of Iron Station, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at her home. She was born on November 7, 1946 in Mecklenburg County to the late Oscar and Thetus Johnson. Carolyn was a faithful member of Beth Haven Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, worked with children’s ministry, was a choir member and bus worker. Carolyn was a long time employee of Duke Energy McGuire Nuclear Station. She loved her family very much.
She is survived by her husband, Billy Robert Buchanan; her sons, Johnny Robert Buchanan and wife, Kimberly of Mooresville, Billy Ray Buchanan and wife, Kathy of Stanley, Thomas Leon Buchanan and wife, Sonya of Maiden; daughter, Susan Renee Hickman of Denver; brothers, Johnny Johnson of Charlotte and Oscar Johnson, Jr. of Weddington; sisters, Pat Gibby of Mooresville, Francis Buchanan of Huntersville and Evelyn Gibby of Andrews, SC; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held January 12 at Beth Haven Baptist Church with David Mims officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Beth Haven Baptist Church (Bus Ministry), PO Box 156, Denver, NC 28037.
Raymer Funeral Home of Huntersville served the family.
Carolyn C. Wallace
Carolyn Cherry Wallace, 78, died December 27, 2007 at home surrounded by her family. Carolyn was blessed by many children in her life while working at Lakeshore Preschool. She was known by many as “Mam-Maw” in the community. She touched many lives with her kindness and thoughtfulness. She will be remembered as a strong Christian woman that loved the Lord and her family above all.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Wallace; children Michael and Iris Wallace, Marilyn and Eddie Payne all of Denver and Vicki and Tim Barton of Salt Lake City; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Brenda Ellis Lowe
MAIDEN - Brenda Ellis Lowe, 46, passed away December 29, 2007 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born Feb. 11, 1961 in Rockville, CT. Brenda graduated from East Gaston High School, Mt. Holly, where she was 1979 Carousel Princess. Brenda earned her BS in Nursing at UNCC and was a nursing supervisor at Emerald Care for 20 years until she was diagnosed in May 2006 with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Brenda's courage and strength during her valiant fight with ALS was an inspiration to everyone she came in contact with. Through all her pain and suffering she remained in good faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Brenda is survived by her husband, Ricky Lowe; two sons, Kyle Steven Lowe of the home, and James Aaron Lowe and wife, Anna, of Charlotte; a daughter, Alyssa Nicole Lowe of the home; her mother, Joyce Ellis and father Hershel Ellis of Mt. Holly; sister, Cheryl Waters and husband Chris of GA; and brothers, Bruce Ellis, Craig Ellis and wife Denise of GA.
A Celebration of Brenda's Life was held Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Stanley with Rev. Surratt officiating. Burial was in Iron Station Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kyle Baker, Spanky Davidson, Kirk Wells, Rob Hannifin, Jeff Boughman and Mark Lackey.
