Born in Toluca, he was a former assistant pastor at the Foursquare Church of Lincolnton, was a professional photographer for 20 years, was the former owner of Sentimental Photographs in Hickory and was co-owner of Pet-ography of Cat Square. He had published several personal genealogy books and a Gaston County Heritage book.
Survivors include his wife Willene Christie Caskey, a daughter, Grace Caskey of the home, a step-daughter, Christie Day Shuping of China Grove; step-son Neal Day Jr. of Salisbury; three brothers, Mike Caskey of Shelby, and Mark Caskey and Lee Caskey, both of Lincolnton; two sisters, Mona Caskey Howard of Mt. Pleasant and Linda Caskey Davis of Lincolnton; a grandchild, Ashley Day; and his step-mother, Clara Caskey of Hickory.

Clarence Cannon
GAFFNEY, S.C. - Clarence Cannon, 52, of 303-1/2 Elm St., died Jan. 20, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Shelby, N.C. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.

Harlan Boyles
RALEIGH - Harlan E. Boyles, 73, died Jan. 23, 2003. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Westminister Presbyterian Church in Raleigh where he was a longtime member and past deacon, elder, treasurer and clerk. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on Saint Mary’s Street in Raleigh.
Born in Vale, he was elected to six four-year terms as State Treasurer after serving 16 years as chief deputy. His work as State Treasurer led the effort to achieve a Triple A credit rating for North Carolina. He saw the state-budget increase eight-fold. He was the recipient of numerous professional and public service honors. ASU established a lecture series in his honor.
Boyles was inducted into the N.C. Business Hall of Fame in 2000 and received the I.E. Ready Award for Distinguished Service to the N.C. Community College System in 2000. In 2002, he was presented the A.E. Firley Award for Distinguished Service.
Survivors include his wife, Frankie Wilder Boyles; two daughters, Phyllis Godwin and Lynn Butler, both of Raleigh; a son, H. Edward Boyles Jr. of Charlotte; two brothers, Carroll Boyles of Raleigh and Howard Boyles of Morganton; one sister, Pauline Houser of Lincolnton; and five grandchildren, Kelly Butler, Zachary Butler, Clint Ferrell, Harlan Boyles III and Blair Boyles.

HUNTERSVILLE - Larry Michael “Mickey” Hucks, 56, died Jan. 23, 2003. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Huntersville First Baptist Church where he was a member. A private interment was held at the church cemetery.
Born in Iredell County, he was a member of the National Guard and was employed with Southern Electric Company, now known as Sesco Team, for 27 years.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Hucks; his mother, Rachel McKay Hucks; two sons, Travis Hucks of Dacula, Ga. and Darrin Hucks of Huntersville; a brother, Jimmy Hucks of Newman, Ga.; and a sister, Pam Hucks Wilson of Washington St., died Jan. 25, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at the First Wesleyan Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the Bessemer City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 2:45 p.m., prior to the service at the church.
Born in Gaston County, she was a retired employee of Reeves Bros. Mill and at her church was active in the Wesleyan Women, choir, and Best Years Fellowship.
