James B. Marshall Jr.
James Bethune Marshall, Jr., 83, formerly of Charlotte, died on January 11, 2009 at his home in Denver in the company of his loving family. He was born in Charlotte on May 15, 1925 to the late James Bethune Marshall, Sr. and Lucille Frew Marshall. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, James Bethune Marshall, III and a sister, Lalla Marshall Gribble.
An Army Air Force veteran of World War II, he graduated from North Carolina State College. As a civil engineer, he worked for many years at the 3M Company and Robert E. Mason Co. in Charlotte. Mr. Marshall was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church for 34 years.
He moved to Lake Norman in 1984 and joined the Episcopal Church of St. Peter by the Lake where he served on the Vestry.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jane de Ovies Marshall; daughters, Evaline Jane Marshall and Anne Marshall Sykes, and her husband, Edward; son; Richard de Ovies Marshall; seven grandchildren; a sister, Catherine M. King of Charlotte, and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Jan. 15 at Evergreen Cemetery in Charlotte followed by a memorial service at at the Episcopal Church of St. Peter by-the-Lake in Denver. The Reverend Dr. Ron Taylor officiated.

Jesse Columbus Story
Jesse Columbus Story, 96, of King Wilkinson Road, died Jan. 18, 2009.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, at Lebanon United Methodist Church with the Revs. Gary Fulker and Raymond Hamrick officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Story was born Sept. 27 1912 in Catawba County. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Julia A Story; five brothers and three sisters. Mr. Story worked for Reel Logging Co. and retired from Broyhill Furniture.
Survivors include two daughters,. Judy S Joyner and husband, Jerry of Denver, Joy Hansley and husband, Zennis, of Denver; a son, Jerry Story and wife Peggy of Denver; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Charles Geisinger
Mr. Charles 'Chuck' Geisinger, 77, of Denver died on Monday, January 12, 2009. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 15 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with burial following in the Fairfield United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Mr. Geisinger was born on March 19, 1931 in Grand Island, NE to the late Alfred and Isabelle Windolph Geisinger. He was also preceded in death by his wives Ruth Moran Geisinger, Myrna Swanson Geisinger and step-daughter Gretchen Tolman James. He was retired from IBM. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include three sons, James Geisinger of Plymouth, MN; Curtis Geisinger of Grand Rapids, MI.; and Timothy Geisinger of New Brighton, MN; six daughters, Jean Borgen of St. Paul, MN.; Linda Murphy of Maplewood, MN; Mary Bunde of Stewartville, MN.; Laurel Singer of Eagan, MN.; Tamara Field of Hutchinson, MN, and Kaylen Whitmore of Golden Valley, MN; stepchildren, Mara Pergola of Ogden, UT.; Nena Tolman and Guy Tolman of Rochester, MN.; three sisters, Patricia Starboard of El Paso, TX., Sister Lucille Jeanette Geisinger of Duluth, MN., and Frances Carbajal of El Dorado, IL.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and special friend Sue Vance.

Ellen Nixon Jones
Mrs. Ellen Jones Nixon, age 93 of Denver died Thursday January 8, 2009 at her residence. Born September 16, 1915 in Lincoln County she was a daughter of the late Sidney Roscoe Jones and Lula Nixon Jones. Mrs. Nixon was an active member of Unity Presbyterian Church, Church Historian and circle member.
Funeral services were conducted on January 10 at Unity Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mark Clark officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Survivors are her brother, Clifton 'Buck' Jones and wife Evelyn of Stanley, sister, Vivian Jones Mundy of Denver and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Nixon, three brothers and three sisters.
The family extends a heartfelt and sincere thank you to all her caregivers for their excellent care of Mrs. Nixon during her declining health and special thank you to Bo Moore, 'Dooter' Black and Phil and Linda Cantelmi for their kindness and loyal friendship.

William David Ikard
William David Ikard, 47, of Gibbs Circle, Maiden passed away January 8, 2009 at Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte. He was born April 19, 1961 in Catawba County to Catherine Ramseur Ikard and the late Carson Edgar Ikard. He was a member of Maiden Chapel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father Carson Edgar Ikard.
Mr. Ikard is survived by one daughter, Maya Ikard of Claremont, his mother Catherine Ikard of the home; four brothers, Phillip Ikard and his wife, Bernice, of Maiden; Carson Ikard, Jr.. of the home; Tony Ikard of Maiden; and Bruce Ikard and his wife, Mercedes, of Maiden; three sisters, Martha Finger and her husband, Verlin, of Lincolnton; Patty Finger and her husband, Ronnie, of Lincolnton; and Annette Ikard of the home, a special friend, Karen Edwards of Claremont and a number of extended family members.
Services were held January 11 at Maiden Chapel Baptist Church. The interment followed in the church cemetery. The Reverend Vincent Ross officiated. Goodin-Drum Funeral Home served the Ikard family.
Eileen Herte
Eileen Ann O'Loughlin Herte, 64, of Denver, formerly of East Northport, NY, died Jan. 1, 2009 at her residence. She was born on June 2, 1944 to the late William and Ann O'Loughlin. She spent her career as a nurse, a job she loved.
She is survived by her husband Edward Herte; sons, Brian Herte and wife Eileen of Tarrytown, NY and Sean Herte and wife Eve of Catawba; daughter, Kerry Kucko of Cornelius; brothers, William and Robert O'Loughlin; and eight grandchildren.
A mass was held January 5 at St. Mark Catholic Church with Father Pat Hoare officiating.

Katherine Jean Kulibert
Katherine Jean Kulibert, 94, of Denver, passed away Dec. 28, 2008 at her residence. She was born June 21, 1914 in Winnebago County, WI. She was a secretary for the school system prior to retiring.
She was the daughter of the late Frank Weston and Ann Marie Weston. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Kulibert. Katherine is survived by one son, James Kulibert of Denver.
A memorial service was held on Jan. 4 at Denver Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Johnny Houser officiating. EF Drum Funeral Home served the Kuliberts.
Charlotte Stewart
Charlotte 'Toddy' Stewart of Sherrills Ford died on Dec. 29, 2008. She was born Jan. 9, 1917 in Kearney, Neb. to the late Cecil David Prather and Lottie Volker Prather, and was adopted by her step-father, Wesley E. Delay.
Survivors include daughter, Shirley Hall of Sherrills Ford; son, Fred E. Stewart III (Patti) of Pagosa Springs, CO; grandchildren, Mike Hall (Karen) of Hilton Head, SC, Kelly Hall (Kathy) of Sherrills Ford, Kanaka Perea (Daniel), Fred Stewart (Karin), Christi Weber (Eldon), and Casey Stewart, all of Colorado; and seven great-granddaughters.
Toddy retired as an executive secretary with the Sears Group Offices in Oklahoma City, with over 32 years of service. She volunteered with the East Lincoln Christian Ministries, and developed many close friendships.
A memorial service was held Jan. 6, 2009 at Rehobeth United Methodist Church in Terrell.
