Charles Ellis Frank Hull, 64, of 3313 Hoffman Acres, died Jan. 3, 2002. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Hollybrook Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a U. S. Army recruiter, and a Korean and Vietnam War veteran, the former manager of the Gastonia Detox Center and a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Nung Cha Hull; two sons, Charles Ellis Franklin Hull Jr. of Crouse, and Ellis Franklin Hull of Lincolnton; one daughter, Suk Hui Hull Lee of New York, NY; one brother, Benny Hull of Lincolnton; two sisters, Maggie Childers, and Jane Stamey, both of Lincolnton; and four grandchildren, David Lee, John Lee, Daniel Hull, and Donavon Hull.

Blair Caldwell
Blair Julius Caldwell, 69, of 747 West 2nd Street, died Jan. 5, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a maintenance worker for Rhyne Mills until retirement, a U.S. Army Korean Conflict veteran, and was selected Veteran of the Year 2001. He was also a member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, Chapter 59 DAV, the VFW, and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Nadine Caldwell; two step-sons, Thomas White of Rock Hill, S.C., and David White of York, S.C.; and two step-daughters, Libby White of Clover, S.C., and Carol Gainey of Blackwood, S.C.
Lois Vernon
CHERRYVILLE — Lois Beam Payne Vernon, 85, of 401 West Academy Street, formerly of Lincolnton, died Jan. 6, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Riverview Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in Mt. Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at Carpenters Funeral Home.
Born in Gaston County, she was a homemaker.

Ralph Boone Sr
BESSEMER CITY — Ralph Jimmy Boone Sr., 81, died Jan. 5, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Westview Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Born in Gaston County, he was a U.S. Army Air Corp. WWII veteran, and was the owner of PIC (Pictorial) Sign Company of Bessemer City and Gastonia for over 50 years. He was a member of Bessemer City First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Auddie Lorraine Bowser Boone; three sons, Skip Boone of Cherryville, Josh Boone of Bessemer City, and Rick Boone of Gastonia; a daughter, Melody Boone of Lillington; and five grandchildren, April Williams, Mandi Boone, Patton Boone, Brandon Boone, and Christy Philbeck.

Edora Harris
CHERRYVILLE — Edora Eller Harris, 93, of 311 South Mulberry Street, died Jan. 7, 2002. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Cherryville where she was a member. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville.
Born in Robbinsville, she was a former public school teacher and worked with the Gaston County Health Department and was a member of the Gaston County Homemakers and the Open Book Club. At her church she was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Mae Harrelson Class, the Lola Allran Circle, the Young at Heart, the United Methodist Women and held many local and district offices.
Survivors include two daughters, Mattie Capps of Charlotte, and Nancy Catena of Cherryville; two brothers, Dr. J. Gerald Eller of Arden, and Hugh Eller of Robbinsville; one sister, Hildred Millsaps of Robbinsville; five grandchildren, Bobbie Capps Luckadoo, Patsy Capps Brandon, Samuel R. Capps Jr., Patti Catena Osburn, and Michael Catena; and nine great-grandchildren.

James Ledbetter
NEWTON — James T. “Jim” Ledbetter, 74, of 615 South College Avenue, died Jan. 6, 2002. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church where he was a member.
Born in Rockingham County, he was a U.S. Army veteran and worked as a master maintenance mechanic for General Electric’s Distribution Transformer Department in Hickory for 32 years. He was a professional baseball player for the Newton-Conover Twins, a member of the Merchant Marines, the N.C. National Guard, on the Board of Directors for the Hickory Metro Sports Authority, and hosted the television program “The Piedmont Sportsman” for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Jones Ledbetter; a son, James T. “Tom” Ledbetter Jr. of Pittsboro; a daughter, Cathy H. Ledbetter of Gastonia; four sisters, Mary Sue Joyce of Stoneville, Louise Atwood of Mayodan, Loretta Groome of Thomasville, and Dot Mills of Mary Ester, Fla.; four grandchildren, Cassie A. Tate, Justin T. Ledbetter, Kristen A. Ledbetter, and Erin M. Ledbetter; and one great-grandchild.

HUNTERSVILLE — Elvin Ray Barnette, 93, of 13001 Old Statesville Road, died Jan. 7, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Stamey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Born in Cleveland County, he worked as the Divisional Manager for Bordens Milk and Ice Cream Co. until retirement. He was a former member of Kiwanis Club, Quarter Century Club for Bordens, and Viewmont Baptist Church in Hickory.
Survivors include two sons, Robert E. Barnette of Taylorsville, and Charles “Charlie” R. Barnette of Huntersville; a daughter, Dorothy B. Smith of Kinston; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
