Ronnie Grigg
VALE - Ronnie Allen Grigg, 51, of 1315 Hull’s Grove Church Road, died Feb. 4, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Hull’s Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church.
Born in Cleveland County, he served in the U.S. Army and worked in the forestry service. He also worked as a carpenter and stone mason.
Survivors include his parents, Earl and Bobbie Grigg of Vale; and three sisters, Brenda Bailey of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Gail Bright of Lincolnton, and Debbie Willis of Vale.

Clarence Leatherman
Clarence Edwin Leatherman, 76, of 307 N. Roberta Avenue, died Feb. 5, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church where he was a member. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Born in Bessemer City, he served in the U.S. Navy, and practiced law in Lincolnton for almost 52 years. He was a Sunday School teacher at his church, and a member of the American Bar Association, the Lincoln County Bar Association, Representative in the North Carolina General Assembly, member of the Advisory Budget Commission, the Tax Study Commission, the Jaycees and Kiwanis. He was the former attorney for the Lincoln County Board of Education and the City of Lincolnton.
Survivors include his wife, Charlesanna W. Leatherman; one son, Lamont E. Leatherman; two daughters, Celia L. Smith of Lincolnton and Rhonda L. Burns of Spartanburg; and six grandsons.

David Kiser
David Russell Kiser, 70, of 1588 Oaklin Lane, died Feb. 4, 2002. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hollybrook Cemetery.
Born in Catawba County, he was a U. S. Air Force veteran, and was the owner of David Kiser Accounting. He worked as a public accountant until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Williamson Kiser; one daughter, Jayne Avery of Lincolnton; and his step-mother, Christine J. Kiser of Gastonia.

VALE - Perry Vernon Rhoney, 75, of West N.C. 10 Hwy., died Feb. 4, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 until 8 at the church.
Born in Catawba County, he was a U. S. Army WWII veteran who served in the Infantry Division in the Philippines and Korea. He was the former Cooksville Fire Department fire chief and worked with Shook Builders for 47 years until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Novella Rink Rhoney; one daughter, Sue Kanipe of Hickory; three sons, Darrell Rhoney, Keith Rhoney, and Larry Rhoney, all of Vale; three brothers, Earl Rhoney of Hickory, Murl Rhoney, and Ralph Rhoney, both of Vale; eight grandchildren, Felicia P. Hulon, Olivia R. Skinner, Amanda R. Cook, Andy Price, Tracy Rhoney, Jennifer R. Allen, Jill R. Walker, and Sara Rhoney; and two great-grandchildren.

GASTONIA - James Edward Dover, 72, of 2070 Kendrick Road, died Feb. 6, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park. The family will receive friends tonight at the funeral home from 7 until 9.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a U.S. Army veteran, and worked as a purchasing agent for Burlington Industries until retirement. He was an Elder of the Gastonia South Congregation of the Jehovah’s Witness.
Survivors include his wife, Imogene Wall Dover; his son, Carl Dover of York, S.C.; a daughter, Becky Holland of Lincolnton; and three grandchildren, Emily Holland, Erica Holland and Trevor Holland.
Jack Weaver
Jack David Weaver, 72, of 308 South Rhyne St., died Feb. 6, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow with Masonic Rites in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Warlick Funeral Home tonight from 7 until 8:30.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a retired supervisor after 29 years of service in the tap and die department at Vermont American.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel M. Weaver; one son, Barry Weaver of Spruce Pine; one sister, Marcella Rudisill of Lincolnton; and three grandchildren, David Weaver, Dustin Weaver and Becky Weaver.

William Lavander II
MAIDEN - William Dennis Lavander II, 31, of 3270 Beal Road, died Feb. 7, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lawings Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at the church.
Born in Lincoln County, he worked as a forklift driver for The Boat Rack for 16 years, and was the president of the Southern Scouts. He was also a fireman with Bandys Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years.
Survivors include his wife, Lori Jean Anderson Lavander; one daughter, Kristen Anne Garbarino of the home; his parents, William and Betty Lavander of Maiden; his sister, Sandy Lavander of Maiden; and his grandmother, Mary Hovis Beal of Maiden.

Born in Lincoln County, she was an employee of Crown Thread Industries for 42 years until retirement and a member of Lincolnton Church of God.

Born in Cleveland County, she worked in the textile industry until retirement, and was a homemaker.

Cook of Gaffney, S.C.; one brother, Chris High of High Shoals; one sister, Judy McReynolds of Farmville, Va.; and one grandchild, Jesse Eaker of Cherryville.
