CHERRYVILLE — James Ralph Beam Jr., 67, of 802 Hawthorne St., died Feb. 15, 2003. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Cherryville where he was a member. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery.
Born in Cherryville, he was retired owner and operator of J. Ralph Beam and Son. He was the former mayor of Cherryville.
Survivors include his wife, Rita McGinnas Beam; a son, James Russell Beam of Cherryville; a daughter, Lucinda Beam Davis of Cherryville; a sister, Mildred Dail of Knightdale; and four grandchildren, Ryan Davis, Marah Davis, Allie Beam and Addison Beam.

DENVER — Frances Maynard Goodman, 72, of Lakewood Care Center and formerly of Nashville, Tenn., died Feb. 15, 2003. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today in Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with burial to be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fairview Cemetery in Roanoke, Va.
Born in Logan County, W.Va., she was a caregiver to Alzheimer patients.
Survivors include two sons, Walter A. Goodman of Atlanta, Ga. and James J. Goodman of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one daughter, Frances G. Dawson of Denver; a sister, Joyce McCoy of Ypsilanti, MI.; one granddaughter, Sarah E. Dawson; and one step-grandson, Brad R. Dawson.

Curtis Lee Bracey, 54, of 407A Massapoag Road, died Feb. 13, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Ebony & White’s Funeral Service. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service in the chapel.
Born in Gaston County, he served in the U.S. Marines and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Purple Heart.

MAIDEN — Bonnie Lee Sanders Rainey, 68, of Rainey Lane, died Feb. 16, 2003. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Maiden. Burial will follow in Lawings Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Born in Gaston County, she was formerly worked at Sweetree, was a caregiver to shut-ins, and was the lead singer in the United Trio.
Survivors include her husband, David Phillip Heavner Jr.; a son, Farrell C. Reynolds of Lawndale; two daughters, Cindy Dean and Debra Ann Smith, both of Cherryville; two sisters, Katherine P. Brooks and Linda P. Born in Lincoln County, he was retired as a soil conservation agent for Rutherford County, was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church, a WWII and Vietnam veteran, served in the 501st Parachute Infantry Division, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association, the Reserve Officers Association, Vietnam Veterans Association, American Legion Post 51 in Concord, and the Bechler Mint Knife Club.
Survivors include his wife, Madge Watkins Smith; a daughter, Barbara Strack of Aiken, S.C.; two sisters, Sallie S. Hupman of Mebane and Margaret S. Hunt of Denton; and a grandson, Jeremiah Strack.

Born in Gaston County, she was a retired cook for Christian Ministry in Lincoln County.
