Coley Huss
CHERRYVILLE - Coley “Tump” Huss, 75, of 130 Dick Beam Road, died Jan. 14, 2002. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 1 to 2:30 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.
Born in Gaston County, he was a heavy equipment operator for the N.C. Department of Transportation for 38 years until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Mauney Huss; one son, Gary Steve Huss of Hope Mills; a brother, Jack Huss of Cherryville; two sisters, Lois Hayes and Betty McSwain, both of Cherryville; and two grandchildren, Michael Huss and David Huss.

Richard Moss
SHERRILLS FORD - Richard Buien Moss, 88, of Hopewell Church Road, died Jan. 14, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today at Olivet Baptist Church in Long Island where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He was born in Catawba County.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth M. Moss of Newton; one daughter, Sherry M. Hunt of Sherrills Ford; four grandchildren, Garrett Moss, Trey Price, Adam Hunt and Tara M. Williams; and four great-grandchildren.

Gretel Anthony
SHELBY - Gretel McSwain Anthony, 86, of 2202 Riverside Road, died Jan. 12, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Flint Hill Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
She was a member of the choir at her church for 40 years, and a Sunday School teacher for 23 years.
Survivors include a son, Charlie Anthony Jr. of Shelby; two grandchildren, John Robert Anthony and Timothy Douglas Anthony, both of Shelby; three step-grandchildren, Tywaina Kennedy, Nicole Kennedy and Ronnie Kennedy, all of Shelby; and one great-grandchild.

Maggie Houser
HUGO, Okla. - Maggie Sue Houser, 93, died Jan. 13, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Hugo, Okla. where she was a member. Internment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
She was a teacher in the New York City, N.Y., he worked for Broughton Hospital until retirement and was a U.S. Army WWII veteran who served as a medical technician in the Pacific area. He was active in the Valdese community where he was a volunteer with the Valdese Rescue Squad, served as Chief with the Squad, was a member of the American Legion Post #234 where he served as Post Commander, and a member of the Honor Guard. He was a life long member of Le Phare des Alps.
Survivors include one daughter, Jean Auton Dalmas of the home; two sons, James David Dalmas of Cornelius and Pierre Allio Dalmas of Black Mountain; four sisters, Isabel Dalmas, Catherine Dalmas, Rachel Dalmas, and his twin, Madelaine Celestine Dalmas, all of Valdese; one brother, Joel Auguste Dalmas of Rutherford College; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Lewis Gantt
VALE - Lewis Neil Gantt, 79, of 918 North Brook III School Road, died Jan. 14, 2002. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Clover, S.C., he was a longline truck driver for Carolina Freight for 34 years until retirement. He was also a U.S. Army WWII veteran who served in the European Theater.
Survivors include his wife, Ola Mae Cannon Gantt; a son, Tracy Gantt of Vale; a daughter, Cindy Collie of Charlotte; and three grandchildren, Tim Collie, Jeff Collie, and Brandon Gantt.

Born in Lincoln County, he was self-employed in the logging industry.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Travis Grant; two daughters, Susan Louise Grant, and Margaret Ann Grant, both of the home; three sisters, Beulah Mae Richard, and Sissie Cole, both of Lincolnton, and Margaret Carroll of Catawba; one grandchild, Johnathan Carroll Grant; and one great-granddaughter.
Freddie Cannon
SHELBY - Freddie Cannon, 64, of 920 Logan Street, died Jan. 16, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
He was born in Newberry, S.C.
