POLKVILLE — Fannie Lee Queen Bumgardner, 78, of 2406 Stagecoach Trail, died Feb. 28, 2002. A funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Polkville Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Burke County, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Bumgardner and Ronald “Ronnie” Bumgardner, both of Polkville; one step-son, Eugene Bumgardner of Golden Valley; three daughters, Brenda Bridges, and Judy Gettys, both of Polkville, and Gail Bumgardner of Monroe; two step-daughters, Kathleen Hipps of Hollis and Mary Sue Terry of Polkville; one brother, Jim Hipps of Cliverdale, Ind.; three sisters, Nettie Waller of Bridgeton, N.J., Mattie Edwards of Shelby, and Emma Bumgardner of Duncans Creek; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; 31 step-great-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-great-grandchildren.

Johnny Lineberger
MAIDEN — Johnny Lee Lineberger, 68, of 4692 South Highway 16, died March 1, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Catawba County, he retired after 21 years in the U.S. Air Force and worked as a food service director.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia J. Lineberger; one son, Rick Lineberger of Sherrills Ford; one daughter, Susie Lineberger of the home; his mother, Mabel Hager Lineberger of Denver; one brother, Tommy Lineberger of Newton; four sisters, Sue McRee of Newton, Kay Graham, Mabel Huffman, and Dorothy Mabe, all of Sherrills Ford.

Oscar “Ozzie” Schweitz, 73, of Lincolnton, died Feb. 28, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mull Funeral Home Inc., Waterloo, N.Y. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Waterloo. A military service will also be held tonight at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.
Born in Brazil, he served in the U.S. Air Force, and worked as a tractor-trailer driver for Zotos International in Geneva until retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post 435, and the VFW Post 6433, both in Waterloo.
Survivors include his wife, Carole; three sons, Jerry Schweitz of N.C., John Schweitz of S.C., and Tom Schweitz of Waterloo; two daughters, Kathy O’Connell of Waterloo, and Cindy Chance of N.C.; one brother, Richard Schweitz of Waterloo; two sisters, Lottie Cirone of Seneca Falls, and Lydia Weber of Waterloo; and eight grandchildren.
Astor Lynn
SALISBURY — Astor Thompson “Tom” Lynn; 87, died Feb. 28, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Memorial Chapel at Summerset Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Rowan Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Born in Lincoln County, he worked for the Cartex Family of Carlton Yarn Mills for 40 years until retirement. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.

Born in Little Sundasky, Ohio, she was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sycamore, Illinois, active in the church circle, and a homemaker.

Born in Lincoln County, he retired from Cronland Warp Roll where he worked as a machinist and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elma Beal Schrum; two daughters, Barbara Muse of Amelia Island, Fla. and Beth Carpenter of Lincolnton; and three grandsons, Mark Muse, Daniel Muse and Michael Carpenter.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Survivors include one daughter, Kay Leedy of Lincolnton; two sons, Thurman W. Worthington Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va. and Craig Worthington of London, England; two sisters, Lucille Winslow of Hertford and Jean Anderson of Clewiston, Fla.; five grandchildren, Lisa Matthews, Laura Leedy, Chris Leedy, Kim Counterman, and Terri Echel; and two great-grandchildren.
