GASTONIA - Mildred Keener Millar, 79, formerly of New Hope Road, died March 9, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Crowders Creek ARP Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 in the chapel at Greene Funeral Service.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and worked as an insurance agent for 35 years until retirement. She was also employed with Homelite Manufacturing,a nd Akers Trucking Co.
Survivors include one son, Ron Millar of Gastonia; one brother, Gene Keener of Miami, Fla.; one sister, Juanita Keener Costner of Lincolnton; and two grandchildren, Meredith Lynn Millar, and Shannon Leigh Millar.

Lane Holmes
CONCORD - B. Lane Holmes, 70, died March 9, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at University City United Methodist Church in Charlotte where he was a member. Internment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Born in Charlotte, he was a U.S. Army veteran. During his career, he worked for the Federal Reserve Bank, Wahcovia and Allied Financial Services. He was the Senior Vice-president of Operations for Lincoln Bank until retirement.
Survivors include his son, Jeff Holmes of Landis; one daughter, Jeanette Johnson of Lilburn, Ga.; two brothers, Tom Holmes of Charlotte, and David Holmes of Louisville, Ky.; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Holmes, Alexandra Johnson, and Vivienne Johnson; and one great-grandchild.

AIKEN, S.C. - Horace V. Ross Jr., 78, died March 8, 2002. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel. Burial followed in Aiken Memorial Gardens.
Born in Lincoln County, N.C., he was a member of First Baptist Church of Aiken, the Ed. Cushman Sunday School class, Masonic Lodge, ACTS, the American Legion, and the VFW. He worked for Dupont for 28 years until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Digh Ross; two sons, Timothy Daniel Ross of Aiken, Gregory Alan Ross of Irmo, four sisters, Doris Beard of Maiden, N.C., Phyllis Cloer of Nice, Fla., Audrey Ramsey of Crouse, N.C. and Ruth Thornburg of Lincolnton, N.C.; and six grandchildren, Bret Ross, Ashley Ross Risher, Alan Ross, Virginia Ross Geddings, Holly Ross, and Jennifer Ross.
Onie Littlejohn
CHERRYVILLE - Onie Bridges Littlejohn, 90, of 209 West Fourth Street, died March 11, 2002. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Cherryville where she was a member. Burial followed in City Memorial Cemetery.
Born in Winston County, Miss., she worked for Ora Mill in Shelby until retirement. She was also a member of the Lib Holleman Sunday School class, and the Pearl Elliott Circle.
Survivors include two sons, Don Littlejohn of Cherryville, and Randy Littlejohn of Shelby; one daughter, Kay Farris of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one sister, Ollie Clark of Granite Falls; seven grandchildren, Jimmy Littlejohn, Jonathan Littlejohn, Joy Atkinson, Yates Farris, Brad Farris, Shanna Littlejohn, and Lindsey Littlejohn; and 11 great-grandchildren.

CHERRYVILLE - Mamie Moss Newton, 100, of 419 N. Mountain Street, died March 11, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Cherryville where she was a livelong member. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery.
She was the co-owner of Newton Music Shop.
Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Beam, Imogene Beam, and Betty Bame, all of Cherryville; 11 grandchildren, Michael Beam, Judy Beam, H. L. Beam III, Priscilla Helms, Denise Shuford, Merinda Arthurs, Lu Ann Sellers, Terry Bame, Renee Stroupe, Dermont Beam, and David H. Bame; 26 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Born in Florence County, S.C., she worked as a clerk at a Family Dollar Store in Mullins.
Survivors include three sons, Allen McQuay of Raleigh, N.C., Billy Carroll Matthews Jr., and Michael Keith Matthews, both of Gainesville, Fla.; three brothers, James Robert Edwards of Lincolnton, N.C., Kenneth Eugene Edwards of Newton, N.C. and James Arthur Edwards Jr. of Columbia, S.C.; and four grandchildren.
Frank Phelps Jr.
Frank Eugene Phelps Jr., 60, of 526 Old Lincolnton-Crouse Road, died March 8, 2002. No services are planned at this time.
Born in Syracuse, N.Y., he was a service advisor for Earl Tindall Ford for five years.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Warner Phelps; one son, Frank Eugene Phelps III of Dallas; one daughter, Brenda D. Born in Lincoln County, she was a medical-surgical nurse at Grace Hospital and the first full time nurse for Hospice of Burke County where she was the Nurse Coordinator until retirement. She was chosen as Woman of the Year by the Burke County Business and Professional Women’s Club, was a member of several local, state, and national nurses’ organizations and served on the Governor’s State Cancer Coordinating Committee.
Survivors include her husband, Charles “Charlie” W. Buckner; one daughter, Angela L. Buckner of Baton Rouge, La.; and two brothers, Ted Goins of Dallas, and Samuel Goins of Leesburg, Fla.

Catherine Reynolds Davis, 71, of the Brian Center, died March 13, 2002. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. today in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Born in Cherokee County, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include two brothers, James Davis of Kings Mountain and Albert Davis of Shelby; one daughter, Kathy Hart of Lincolnton; four sisters, Jerdine Woods, Lois Hundson, Sara Reynolds and Hazel Kitter, all of Shelby; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
