CHERRYVILLE - Ophelia Grigg Davis, 84, of 305 N. Hoyle St., died March 3, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 tonight at the funeral home.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a retired inspector for Keystone Carbon and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Dawn Stroupe of Raleigh; a half brother Gerald Grigg of Sun City, Fla., two half sisters, Virginia Seufert of Charlotte and Thelma Grigg of Panama City, Fla.; six grandchildren, Howie Baker, Scott Baker, Keria Vestall, Terri Stroupe, Heather Miner and Greta Stroupe; and four great-grandchildren.

MAIDEN - Elmer Dean Wray, 56, of 4269 Anderson Mountain Road, died March 5, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Mt. Anderson Baptist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Iredell County, he was a machine operator with Getrag Gears.

Born in Lancaster, S.C., she was a homemaker and worked at Travis Knits for several years.
Survivors include her husband, Andrew Forney; five sons, Melvin Forney, Marvin Forney and Warren Forney, all of Charlotte, Roger Forney and Gary Forney, both of Iron Station; three daughters, Janie F. Texas; seven grandchildren, Steven Wade Johnson, Christy Johnson Eaker, Benjamin Oliff, Julie Oliff, Charlotte Oliff, Jason Willis, and Luke Todd Johnson; and one great-grandchild.

Born in Newton, he was a radio disc jockey, a truck driver, a 32nd degree mason of the Lomax Lodge No. 29 in Lincolnton, a member of the Rameses Lodge No. 51 in Charlotte, and was retired from Southern Furniture.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Adams; two sons, Sterling Adams Jr. of Denver, Colo. And Kim Adams of Rock Hill, S.C.; four daughters, Harriett Jones of Chester, S.C., Sheila Hammond of Orlando, Fla., Irish Adams of Fayetteville, and Ramona Adams of Atlanta, Ga.; a step-daughter, Letitia McCullough of Maiden; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Gail L. Bandy and Teresa L. Helderman, both of Newton; two sisters, Marie Fish and Kathleen Fish, both of Maiden; four grandchildren, Melanie B. Spencer, Monica Helderman, Joshua Bandy and Justin Helderman; and one great-grandson.

Florence Proctor
Florence Hartman Proctor, 85, of Lincoln Nursing Center, formerly of 1514 Salem Church Road, died March 8, 2003. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today at Boger City United Methodist Church where she was a member. Burial followed at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, she was retired as a florist after more than 40 years. At her church, she was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the choir and involved in the United Methodist Women. She was the first Hospice volunteer in Lincoln County, a volunteer with Linc Meals, the American Red Cross, and G.E. Massey School. She was elected Lincoln County Woman of the Year in 1992 and received the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service in 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Jane Lowe; a sister, Bess H. Eurey of Camden, S.C.; and two granddaughters, Ashley Lowe and Allison Lowe.

Born in Catawba County, he was employed by Copeland Corporation as RMA supervisor.
Survivors include his parents, Dennis and Dot Canipe Wright of Cherryville; his birth mother, Ann Harris Roberson of Lawndale; his grandmothers, Dorothy Bess Wright of Kings Mountain and Eunice Pope Canipe of Cherryville; a step-brother, Larry Heafner of Seattle, Wash.; and two step-sisters, Michelle Douglas and Ramona Heafner, both of Lawndale.
