Born in Gaston County, he was a retired parts manager at Sprull Chevrolet and worked in heavy truck parts for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Abernathy Ballard; a daughter, Robin Ballard Houser of Vale; a son, Tommy Lee Ballard of Alexis; two brothers, Fred Ballard of Stanley and Morris Ballard of Gastonia; a sister, Josephine Starnes of Mooresville; and two grandchildren, Colby Houser and Kindell Houser.

SHERRILLS FORD — James Odell Hilderbran, 78, of 3101 Beatty Road, died March 12, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sherrills Ford Presbyterian Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Born in Catawba County, he was a saw miller, a member of DAV Mooresville chapter, and a U.S. Army veteran who received the EAME medal with two bronze service stars, a good conduct medal, and a WWII victory medal.
Survivors include a son, Glenn Hilderbran of Vale; a daughter, Faye H. Hewitt of Sherrills Ford; five grandchildren, Steve Sigmon, James Sigmon, Kenneth Hewitt Jr., Lori Goins, and Leslie Hilderbran; a great-grandson; and a brother, Carlie Hilderbran of Sherrills Ford.

Born in Charlotte, he was a carpenter, a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the American Hemercalis Society and the Piedmont Daylily Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Missy Deaton and Beth Trujillo, both of Mooresville; a son, Marc Dunlap of Maiden; a sister, Tillie Ray of Ft. Mill, S.C.; and four grandchildren, Brittany Dunlap, Jake Deaton, Paulina Trujillo, and Marcos Trujillo.

CHERRYVILLE — Pearle McCormick Hord, 93, of 111 Harrelson Road, died March 12, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 until 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Carpenter’s Funeral Home.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a retired school teacher and was a member of the NCEA.
Survivors include a son, Zan McCormick of Charlottesville, Va.; a brother, J.W. Dellinger of Cherryville; and a granddaughter, Kate Alexandria McCormick.

Born in Genoa, N.Y., he was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Born in Mecklenburg County, he was a foreman with Pet Dairy for 45 years. At his church, he served as a deacon and church secretary.

FALLSTON — Lala Daniel Tysinger Williams, 92, of Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, formerly of Fallston, died March 11, 2003. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today at Fallston Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Davidson County, she was a homemaker, a member of the Fallston Order of the Eastern Star #282, and a former member of the Fallston Women’s Club.

GASTONIA — Lester C. Myers Jr., 75, of 206 Belt Drive, died March 11, 2003. A funeral service was held at 8 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial was at 11 a.m. today with Masonic Rites in Gaston Memorial Park.
Born in Gaston County, he was retired from A.B. Carter and was a U.S. Army Korean Conflict veteran. He was a member of Brunswick Island Baptist Church in Holden Beach where he served as trustee, a member for 50 years in the Lowell Masonic Lodge 590, a past watchman of the Shepards Judean Shrine #13, and a past patron of Lowell Chapter 290 order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Poteat Myers; a son, Jerry Myers of Kings Mountain; a brother, David Myers of Gastonia; a sister, Frances Lemming of Gastonia; two grandchildren, Chris Myers and Toby Myers; and three great-grandchildren.

Born in Caldwell County, he was a sawmill operator in the timber industry and a U.S. Navy WWII veteran.
Survivors include four sons, Mitchell Potter of Sherrills Ford, David Potter of Stanley, Larry Potter of Maiden, and Matt Potter of Denver; two daughters, Rachel Rowe of Newton and Peggy Shepard of Denver; two sisters, Alma Reel and Martha Williams, both of Iron Station; a brother, T.A.
