Born in Spartanburg County, S.C., she was formerly employed as a nurse’s aid at Dewpage Nursing Center.
Survivors include her husband, Ronnie D. Riley Sr.; her mother, Willie Miller Gosnell Michalowski of Bessemer City; two sons, Ronnie D. Riley Jr. of Ellenboro and Ralph W. Riley of Bessemer City; three daughters, Jaunita Owensby of Forrest City, Michelle Mae Hughes of Cherryville, and Tammy Herman of Dallas; two step-children, Tommy Knight and Tammy Knight, both of Ohio; a brother, Charles “Sonny” Gosnell of Bessemer City; two sisters, Alice Toller of Dallas and Jean Creed of Stanley; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

SHELBY - Jeanette “Mit” Toms Maddox, 77, of 313 East Sumter, died March 14, 2003.

Lucille McFarlin
MAIDEN - Lucille Vesteen McFarlin, 50, of 25 Monroe St., died March 14, 2003. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Maiden Wesleyan Church where she was a member. Burial followed in Maiden City Cemetery.
She was born in Texas; and five grandchildren, Alora Grace Rhyne, Larry Wilford Rhyne, Michael Wayne Ballard, Mark Timothy Gregory II and Ashley Grey Gregory.
Johnny Caskey
IRON STATION - Johnny Dykes Caskey, 67, of 1612 Forum Lane, died March 16, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Iron Station Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Born in Lincoln County, he was retired from the U.S. military having served four years in the Air Force and 20 years in the Navy.
Survivors include three brothers, Graham Caskey, Cary “Andy” Caskey, and Joe David Caskey, all of Iron Station; and five sisters, Charles Alexander of Lincolnton, Martha Bennis of Orange City, Fla., and Mary Craig Peeler, Margaret “Peg” Bartholomew and Pat Bradshaw, all of Iron Station.

Thelma Mitchell
Thelma Louise Mitchell, 85, of Lincoln Nursing Center, formerly of Madison, Maine, died March 16, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Other services will be held at a later date in Madison, Maine.
Born in Solon, Maine, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Edward Spaulding of Vale and Clyde Spaulding of Madbury, N.H.; two daughters, Audrey Merrow of Belgrade, Maine, and Ruth Monfils of Charlotte; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

IRON STATION - Hubert “Curly” Hedspeth, 75, of 3498 Whisnant Road, died March 16, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Born in Lincoln County, he was the owner of Hedspeth Enterprises.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine S. Hedspeth; a son, Lynn Hedspeth of Iron Station; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Alvin Wright
SHELBY - Alvin Glenn Wright, 71, of 115 Blackwood Place, died March 17, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park with military graveside rites by Lawndale American Legion.
Born in Cleveland County, he was retired after 30 years of service with the N.C. Department of Corrections and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma “Mickey” Wright; two sons, Phillip Wright and Tommy George, both of Shelby; three daughters, Debbie Turner and Kim Glover, both of Shelby and Tammy Ferree of Vale; nine grandchildren, Ronald Glover Jr., Travis Glover, John Turner, Lindsay Darrah, Clint Wright, Dustin Hollifield, Garrett Wright, Alisha George and Courtney George; and one great-grandchild.

Carrie Sain
VALE - Carrie Simmons Sain, 95, of 811 Hwy. 18, died March 16, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
Born in Tucker County, W.Va., she operated a general store, recapping shop and Goodyear dealership. She was the oldest member of Laurel Hill United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday School superintendent, teacher, janitor and a member of both the church and fellowship hall building committees. She was honored as Mother of the Year in 2001 at her church. She was a member of the Cemetery Committee, the United Methodist Women and the Young at Heart Club for the West Lincoln Charge. She was a life member of Fallston Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #282 where she held many offices.
Survivors include a daughter, Faye Brittain of Shelby; a granddaughter, Sherry Hunt; two step-granddaughters, Melanie Hamrick and Cathy Smith; two great-grandsons, Jay “Trey” Ross III and Derek Ross; three step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Joe Simmons of Smoot, W.Va.

Luther “Nub” LeFevers, 74, of 2952 Gates Road, died March 17, 2003. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 tonight at Drum Funeral Home in Conover.
Born in Catawba County, he was retired from Southwood Reproductions and was a U.S. Army veteran. He had previously been employed by Conover Chair. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Eddie LeFevers of Cherryville, Bud LeFevers of Lincolnton and David LeFevers of Newton; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Richard D. “Bo” Mosteller Jr., 67, of 1841 Bill Lynch Road, died March 17, 2003. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Riverview Baptist Church.
Born in Lincoln County, he worked in the textile industry.
Survivors include a son, Richard D. Mosteller III of Claremont; two brothers, Harold Mosteller and Tommy Mosteller, both of Lincolnton; and three grandchildren.

Estelle Kiser Black, 92, of the Brian Center, formerly of 3207 Long Shoals Road, died March 17, 2003. A funeral service was held at noon today at Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in High Shoals Memorial Gardens.
Born in Gaston County, she worked in the textile industry.
Survivors include a son, Dean Black of High Shoals; a daughter, Beth Ramsey of Charlotte; two sisters, Ruth Hoke and Mary Williams, both of Lincolnton; three grandchildren, Terry Black, Carolyn Winchester and Nita Honeycutt; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
