Margaret Oldaker Daugherty, 78, of Lincoln Nursing Center, died March 22, 2003. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Warlick Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home.
Born in Putnam County, W.Va., she was a WWII veteran, owned and operated a dairy farm and had a career in nursing. She was a member of Crouse Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivors include her husband, William Warren Daugherty of Lincolnton; two sisters, Regina Graley and Phyllis Oldaker of Charleston, W.Va.; two daughters, Sharon Isenhour and Karen Galant, both of Gastonia; three sons, John P. Daugherty, William O. Daugherty and Timothy L. Daugherty, all of Lincolnton; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

MAIDEN - Catherine Ball Abernathy, 75, of 109 East Boyd St., died March 21, 2003. The funeral was at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Maiden where she was a member, Sunday school teacher and past director of Women’s Missionary Union. Burial followed in Lawings Chapel Baptist Church cemetery.
She was an educator who served as a classroom teacher, speech therapist and curriculum supervisor and assistant superintendent of personnel of the Lincoln County School System.
Survivors include her husband, C. Blair Abernathy; a son, Douglas B. Abernathy of Maiden; a daughter, Beverly Abernathy Quarles of Raleigh; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Martha Flood
CHERRYVILLE - Martha Ellen Hise Flood, 87, of 135 Canipe Road, died March 20, 2003. Funeral services will be held at a later date.
Born in Media, Ill., she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynn Weidenhamer of Cherryville; a sister, Leone Hise of Fort Madison, Iowa; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

NEWTON - Susie Fay Scronce, 89, died March 22, 2003. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Plateau United Methodist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Burke Mortuary in Newton.
Born in Lincoln County, she was employed in the textile industry.
Survivors include two sons, Nicholas Scronce of Goldsboro and Jerry Scronce of Vale; a daughter, Carolyn Leonhardt of Newton; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

VALE - Teresa Kay Taylor, 41, of 7150 West N.C. 27, died March 21, 2003. The funeral service was at 11 this morning at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenters Funeral Home. Burial was in North Brook Baptist Church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she was formerly employed by Lincoln Medical Center as a phlebotomist and was presently a caregiver.
Survivors include her parents, Howard and Kay Willis Taylor of Cherryville; a daughter, Carlee Huss of the home; a sister, Leslie Towery of Cherryville; and a brother, Dennis Taylor of Boger City.

Born in Lincoln County, she was a retired textile employee.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.

Born in Lincoln County, she was a supervisor of training for the U.S. Postal Service.
Survivors include her brother, Ike Miller of Lincolnton; and a sister, Polly Spadaccini of Charlotte.

BLACK MOUNTAIN - Lila Louise Mills Ponder, 98, of Highland Farms, died March 22, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Swannanoa Valley Presbyterian Church in Swannanoa.
Born in Palatka, Fla., she was a member of Shenandoah Presbyterian Church in Miami, Fla. where she served as president of Women of the Church. She was a charter member of Swannanoa Valley Presbyterian Church and first president of their Women of the Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Lila Ponder Friday of Lincolnton; a son, John Oliver Ponder of Waterbury, Conn.; two granddaughters, Susan Friday Lamb and Sarah Friday Peters; and four great-grandchildren.

Born in Cleveland County, she was a retired Esther Mill winder and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher.
