William David Keener Jr., 39, of 3204 East Highway 27, died March 28, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Warlick Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a Construction Administrator with the CCC Group.
Survivors include his parents, William David Keener Sr. and Carol Sue Bussey Keener of Oregon; and one brother, Michael David Keener of Colorado.

Ruth Davis Grooms, 77, of the Brian Center, died March 30, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Warlick Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Born in Hamblen County, Tenn., she worked in the Lincoln County Clerk of Court office until retirement and as the manager of the N.C. License Plate Agency in Lincoln County.
Survivors include one son, Rev. Nathan Grooms of Lincolnton; two brothers, Joe Davis of Bullsgap, Tenn., and Sam Davis of Pembroke, Ken.; and three grandchildren, Aaron Grooms, Andrew Grooms, and Amber Mincey.

IRON STATION - Paul Earl Williams, 53, of 1039 Monterey Drive, died March 30, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at New Covenant United Methodist Church in Lucia. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Kingsport, Tenn., he was a service technician with Crown Forklift Company.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Johnson Williams; one son, Brian Williams of Stanley; one daughter, DeDe Carpenter of Stanley; three brothers, Buddy Williams of Fort Mill, S.C., Glenn Williams, and Bobby Williams, both of Kingsport, Tenn.; three sisters, Donna Overlin of Charlotte, Sharon Brown of Denver, and Phyllis Ann Holden of Kingsport, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.

GASTONIA - Olin Sanford Watts, 75, of 2370 Hedgewood Circle, died March 30, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Born in Cherryville, he was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran who served in the Pacific and Okinawa campaigns, and was a member of the Methodist Church. He worked as a business entrepreneur until retirement, and was a scoutmaster with Cherryville Troop 5 of the Boy Scouts of America.
Survivors include his wife, Daphine Dellinger Watts; one son, Steve Watts of Gastonia; two brothers, Ben Watts of Augusta, Ga., and Roy Watts of McAdenville; two sisters, Irene Wright of Lexington, and Mae Anthony of Crouse; and two grandchildren, Star Walker and Jonathan Reed.

He was born in Iredell County.

Born in Rutherford County, he was a member of Community Baptist Church, a U.S. Army Air Force WWII veteran and worked as a cotton farmer until retirement.
Survivors include five sons, Bobby Newton of Charleston, S.C., Chuck Newton of Morresboro, Leonard Newton of Crestview, Fla., James Newton of Warner Robins, Ga., and Roger Newton of Prattville, Ala.; three daughters, Annie Blanton, and Shelby, Linda Wright, both of Shelby, and Carolyn Newton of Polkville; one brother, Charles Newton of Lincolnton; one sister, Etta Smart of Forest City; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Ethel Chapman
Ethel Davis Chapman, 82, of 2511 Startown Road, died March 30, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Salem United Church of Christ where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 until 8:30 at E.F. Drum Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, she worked for Ramseur Hardware and Lincoln Drug until retirement. She was a homemaker and was involved with the “Young at Heart” at St. Matthews Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Chapman-Capron of Charlotte, and Alice Chapman Buss of New Orleans, La.; one son, Neal Chapman of Lincolnton; two sisters, Flossie D. Schronce of Lincolnton, and Marie D. Leonhardt of Hickory; one brother, Dorman Davis of Lincolnton; five grandchildren, Donna B. LaNasa, Jenirose Buss, Alaina Chapman, Leah Chapman, and Thomas Chapman; and one great-grandchild.

Born in Lincoln County, he was an operations manager with Carolina Freight for 15 years, and worked with Overnight Trucking. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela E. Harris; one son, Kenneth Keith Harris of the home; one daughter, Jennifer Leigh Harris of the home; his mother, Sarah F. Harris of Cherryville; and five sisters, Annie S. Farley of Gastonia, Ella Ree Harris, Betty J. Patterson, Barbara A. Harris, and Bernice Harris, all of Cherryville.

Born in Central, he was a U.S. Army Air Corps WWII veteran, and a Master Mason of the Six Mile Masonic Lodge. He worked with Chester Williams Dry Wall Company of Anderson until retirement.
Survivors include two sons, Samuel Houston Kelly of Denver and James Henry Kelly of Central; three daughters, Penny K. Smith, Linda K. Hendricks, and Judy K. Barnaskey, all of Central; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
