DURHAM - Craig Allen Williams, 72, of 4627 Stafford Drive, died May 22, 2002. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 28 at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Clements Funeral Home. A graveside memorial service will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a supervisor with Winn-Dixie Groceries for 42 years until retirement, a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Durham, and the Past Grand North Moose of the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Brackett Williams; a daughter, Carol W. Gross of Hillsborough; two sons, Allen Williams of Oxford and Ronald Williams of Smithfield; a sister, Alice Clanton of Lincolnton; two brothers, Ralph Williams of Greensboro and Bill Williams of Beaufort; three grandchildren, Beth George, Andrew Ferrell, and Kevin Williams; and one great-grandchild.

Donald Hoyle
CHERRYVILLE - Donald Eugene Hoyle, 71, of 115 West Main Street, died May 23, 2002. A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Cedar Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he worked as a bank manager for Nations Bank of Cherryville for 32 years until retirement. He was a U.S. Navy Korean Conflict veteran, a member of Cedar Grove Lutheran Church where he formerly served on the church council, and a member of Lincolnton Masonic Lodge #137.
Survivors include his wife, Sonja Black Hoyle; one daughter, Gina Black Ross of Mebane; two sisters, Christine Craig, and Vivian Willis of Vale; two grandchildren, Susan Runser, and Michael Ross; and three great-grandchildren.

CHERRYVILLE - Lee Ivo Newton, 88, of 804 Sunset Drive, died May 26, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church where he was a member. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at Carpenter’s Funeral Home.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a supervisor for Dover Textile for 23 years until retirement. He was a member of the Cherryville Masonic Lodge 505 A.F. & A.M., the York Rite Masonic Lodge Order, and the Hejaz Shrine Temple.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Pruitt Goins Newton; two sons, Jeff Newton, and Gerald “Jerry” Newton, both of Cherryville; a step-son, Jerry Goins of Easley, S.C.; two daughters, Joanne Padgett of Gastonia, and Janey Fulton of Waco; one brother, Ted Newton of Forrest City; 11 grandchildren, Monty Padgett, Freda Reep, Christopher Oates, Rod Hughes, Billy Robinson, Jason Newton, Amanda Newton Lee Newton, Sherrie Harmon, and Doug Goins; and six great-grandchildren.

Brady Hoffman Jr.
Brady Jonas Hoffman Jr., 76, of 3228 Springfield Drive, died May 26, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Long Shoals Wesleyan Church. Burial will follow in Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:30 until 4 p.m. prior to the service.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a World War II and Korean War veteran and served as a Master Sergeant E-8 in the U.S. Army for 24 years until retirement.
Survivors include three sons, Bobby Hoffman of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Rodney Hoffman of Maiden, and Brady J. “Buddy” Hoffman III of Lincolnton; five daughters, Lynnette H. Friday, Denise H. Cooper, Karen H. Hoffman, and Sherry H. Gunter, and Shelley H. Rader, all of Lincolnton; his step-mother, Leila Hoffman Price of Lincolnton; a brother, Earl Hoffman of Lincolnton; two sisters, Rachel Campbell, and Essie Williams, both of Lincolnton; 21 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Born in Lincoln County, she worked as a winder for Carlton Yarn Mill until retirement and was a Sunday School teacher for many years at her church.
Survivors include two step-sons, Thomas Adams, and Charles Adams; six step-daughters, Lilly Reynolds, Verline Pruitt, Linda Adams, Donna Heafner, Cecilia Thomann, and Joan Peeler; one sister, Lois Mayo; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Alton Eugene Wilson, 64, of 757 Alf Hoover Road, died May 27, 2002. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Reepsville Baptist Church. A graveside service followed at 2 p.m. in Brookhill Memorial Gardens in Rockwell.
Born in Henry County, Va., he worked as a plant manager for Rhyne Mills until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Trexler Wilson; two sons, Dale Wilson and Danny Wilson, both of Salisbury; one daughter, Linda Elliott of Salisbury; four brothers, Tim Wilson and Willie Wilson, both of Salisbury, Rick Wilson of Charlotte, and Fred Wilson of Washington, D.C.
Survivors include his wife, Allean Jenkins Williams; his mother, Maggie Williams; two daughters, Lisa Jenkins and Keshia Williams, both of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Tommie F. HICKORY - Dwight Julaine Proctor, 72, of 32nd St. North East, died May 28, 2002. A funeral service was held at noon on Thursday at Augustana Lutheran Church where he was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he worked as a sales manager for the Gwaltney Division of Smithfield Foods until retirement. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and a member of the D.A.V. American Legion Post #48, and the Mount View Golf Club.
Survivors include his wife, Daisy Carswell Proctor; two daughters, Sharon Lippard and Phyllis Proctor, both of Hickory; three sisters, Stella Lingefelt, and Surnell Baxter, both of Cherryville, and Cecil Norman of Vale; four brothers, Ken Proctor and Nelson Proctor, both of Hickory, John Proctor of Conover, and Beverly Henry Proctor Jr. of Morganton; and two grandchildren, Brooke Lippard and Chase Lippard.

Born in Catawba County, he worked as a truck driver until retirement. A member of the Maiden Masonic Lodge #592, he was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II.
