VALE - Edith Shuford Lingerfelt, 79, of 7454 Lingerfelt Road, died April 30, 2003. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stamey Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hull’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery where she was a member. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 until 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Don Lingerfelt and Charles Lingerfelt, both of Vale; one daughter Joyce Ann Brittain of Connelly Springs; one sister Arbedella Rhodes of Maiden; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hull’s Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 6263 W. Hwy. 27, Vale, New York Department of Transportation.
Survivors include one son, Tyrone Douglas Myrick of Brooklyn, NY; one daughter, Sandra Myrick Wilson of Brooklyn, NY; two brothers, Thomas Moore of Iron Station, and Jack Moore of Charlotte; four sisters, Grace Logan, Pauline Coltrane, Adell Allen all of Iron Station and Gertha McFadden of Orangeburg, SC; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Fred Neill
CHERRYVILLE - Fred
Canada Neill Sr., 101, of 503 Old Post Rd., died May 1, 2003. Funeral services were held Sunday at First Wesleyan Church, where he was a member. Burial followed in City Memorial Cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, he was a retiree from City of Cherryville, Dora Mill, Carlton Mill and First Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include two sons, James Paul Neill of Sparks, Nev and Fred C. Neill Jr. of Cherryville; two brothers Jim Neill of Cherryville and Marcus Neill of Bessemer City; two sisters Vera Hannon and Bertha Russ both of Cherryville, 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 12 great great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First Wesleyan Church, 800 Pink St., Cherryville, North Carolina 28202.

J. Thornburg
MAIDEN - Johnny Boyce Thornburg, 67, of 2285 Withers Road, died May 2, 2003. Funeral services were held Sunday at Living Word Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he was a member. Burial followed in the Maiden Cemetery.
Born in Catawba County he was an Army veteran.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Thornburg of Maiden and Johnny Thornburg Jr. of Iron Station; two daughters, Sherrian Henkle of Lowesville and Lisa Martin of Maiden; one step-son, Eddie Shelton of Lincolnton; two nephews of who he was guardian Tim Thornburg and Jeff Thornburg both of Maiden; one sister; Joyce Anders of Maiden; and five grandsons, Dexter Shelton, Ethan Thornburg, Spencer Thornburg, Kenny Henkle and Nicky Henkle.
Burke Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

R. Schronce
VIRGINIA - Robert Cornelius Schronce, 72, of Newbern Heights, died May 2, 2003. Funeral services were held Sunday at Stevens Funeral Chapel. Burial followed in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin.
Born in Lincolnton he was a member of the Dublin United Methodist Church where he was an active in the Methodist’s Men’s activities and a retiree of Volvo, Dublin.
Survivors include his mother, Edna Carpenter Schronce of Lincolnton; his wife, Elizabeth Warren Schronce of Pulaski; one son, Mark R. Schronce of Pulaski; one granddaughter, Amanda Schronce of Pulaski; and one brother, Edward Schronce of Lincolnton.
Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Hugh Helms
CHERRYVILLE - Hugh Helms, 95, of 1505 Cherryville Highway, died May 2, 2003. Funeral services were held Sunday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Gaston County he owned and operated Helms Store.
Survivors include his son, Jim Helms of Cherryville; granddaughter, Sherrie Hayes of Cherryville; grandson Kenneth H. Helms of Cherryville; four great-grandchildren and two nephews.
Memorial may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, PO Box 579, Cherryville, North Carolina 28086.
Carpenter’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Catherine Porter
SHELBY - Catherine Berry Porter, 70, of 1219 Masonic Drive, died April 30, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Shiloh Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3 p.m. at the church Tuesday.
Survivors include five children.

Kevin Bournique
CONWAY - Kevin Paul Bournique, Sr, 39, died May 2, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Goldfinch Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery.
Born in Conn., he was a U.S. Army veteran and employed by Hay Construction.
Survivors include his parents of Murrells Inlet; wife Kathy Brooks Bournique; son Kevin Paul Bournique, Jr. of Conway; three step-sons, Ashley Brooks of Myrtle Beach, Jonathan and Damien Brooks both of Conaway; one step-granddaughter, Savanna Lynn Brooks; two brothers, Glenn and Jeff Bournique both of Conn.; and one sister, Nancy Ogren of Conn.

Daisy Wilkinson
MAIDEN - Daisy Raffield Wilkinson, 92, of 506 E. Main St., died May 3, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the Maiden Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church.
Born in Sumter County, SC she was a Registered Nurse at Catawba General Hospital.
Survivors include one step-son, Byron Webb Wilkinson, Jr. of Lexington; one step-daughter, Barbara Wilkinson Creech of Maiden; one nephew, John Benjamin Raffield, III of Dalzell SC; one niece, Joan Raffield of Dalzell SC; one sister Bertha Raffield Wactor of Elloree SC; six step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and two great-nephews.

Born in Greene County, GA. he was a U.S. Army retiree and plant manager at Ray Hamlet Co.
Survivors include his wife Ruth Hamlet Mullins of the home; two daughters, Brenda Epley of Conover and Bobbi Ann Beard of Catawba; three grandchildren, Travis Craig Beard, Sarah Lauren Beard, and Jessica Paige Epley; one sister Thelma Elizabeth Moore; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Edith Hovis
Edith Black Hovis, 91, of 2540 Salem Church Road, died May 5, 2003. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today at Warlick Funeral Home. Burial followed in Hovis Family Cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, she was a bookkeeper in the retail furniture industry.
Survivors include one grandson, Charlie Mattox of High Shoals; two brothers, Houston Black of Mooresboro, Johnny Black of Alexis; two sisters, Martha Morris of River Bend, Lottie Cloninger of High Shoals; three great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.

LAWNDALE - Angela Juanita Jenkins-Wilson, 31, of 147 Gray Fox Drive, Lot 17, died May 6, 2003. Funeral services will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Hospice at Wendover. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Born in Cleveland County she was a cashier at Burger King.
Survivors include her husband Ernest Michael Wilson Sr. of Lawndale; father, Jessie Holt; mother, Kathy Smith Holt; two sons, William Earl Jenkins and Devon Hambright both of Lawndale; one daughter, Caroline Hambright of Lawndale; one sister, Crystal Hullender of Black Moutain; maternal grandparents, Dorothy and Victor Blackwell and paternal grandparents, Arthur and Jean Holt.
