George Hoyle
George William Hoyle, 88, of W. Hwy. 27, died June 14, 2003. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today at Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a heavy equipment operator in the landscaping and grading business.
Survivors include his wife Polly Link Hoyle of the home; one son, G. Rick Hoyle of Iron Station; two brothers, Jimmy Hoyle of Lincolnton and Kenny Hoyle of Chapel Hill; one sister, Daphine Houser of Lincolnton; one grandson, Jonathan Hoyle and two great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Rhyne Heights United Methodist Church, 520 South Madison Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Mark Sellers
Mark Conrad Sellers, 50, of Lincolnton, died June 14, 2003. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at Warlick Funeral Home.
He was a commercial graphic artist at Blum.
Survivors include his wife Sherry Holler Sellers of the home; one son, Shane Sellers of Denver; father, Haywood Sellers; step-mother, Anne Clark Sellers of Naples, Fla.; mother, Thelma Parker Sellers of Clinton; one sister, Jo Ann Sellers of San Francisco, Calif. and two grandchildren, Zach Sellers and Rachel Sellers of Denver.

M. Roseman
CONOVER — Matthew Eric Roseman, 19, of 106 1st Street Place SE, died June 14, 2003. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Concordia Lutheran Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in Conover City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until tonight at Burke Mortuary.
Born in Catawba County he was a student at Appalachian University.
Survivors include his father, Brian Roseman of Conover; mother, Kim Harkins of Conover; three brothers, Drew Roseman, Jacob Harkins and Daniel Harkins all of Conover; grandparents, Sonny and Adele Roseman, Judy and Robert Carsey of Newton and Keith Hefner of Conover; great-grandmothers, Claudia Roseman of Conover and Willie Killian of Newton.
Memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran School, 216 5th Avenue SE, Conover, NC.

Hal Hoyle
John Hal Hoyle, 69, of 2380 Cat Square Road, died June 15, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 tonight at Stamey Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County he was retired from the City of Lincolnton, an assistant teacher for the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class, a member of the American Legion Post #30 and a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife Vergie Wise Hoyle of the home; one son, Alan Hoyle of Lincolnotn; three daughters, Kathie Canipe and Tammy Leatherman both of Vale and Robin Lineberger of Lincolnton; one brother, Gary Hoyle of Iron Station; two sisters, Sue Miller and Faye Downs both of Vale; 10 grandchildren, Robert Canipe, Kelly Shew, Brianna Hoyle, Joanna Hoyle, Savanna Hoyle, Johnathan Hubbard, Kristine Leatherman, Jacob Leatherman, Nicholas Goodson and John Lineberger III and one great-grandchild.

Lester Phillips
SHELBY — Lester Lee Phillips, 66, of 803 Vale Street, died June 13, 2003. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service.
Born in York, SC he was employed as a machinist at Dove Doran and Esther Textile Mill and had previously worked in maintenance at the Social Service Department.
Survivors include his wife Mary Jane Stevenson Phillips of Shelby; two sons, Randolph Lamont Phillips of Gaffney, SC and Derrick Antwain Phillips of Shelby; two daughters, Theresa Jane Phillips Little of Charlotte and Marie Phillips of Shelby; three sisters, Mamie P, Jones of Baltimore, Md., Sarah P. Martin of Morganton and Elaine Phillips of Shelby; 10 grandchildren, Joseph Little, III, Angel Little, Jaquez Phillips, William Corry, India Corry, Deandre Phillips, Maleek McMullins, Jazmyne Phillips, Alexandria Wilson and O’Marion Phillips.

BESSEMER CITY — Beulah May Rector, 91, of Somerset Court, died June 14, 2003. Funeral services will at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Born in Murphy County she was retired from Parkdale Mills.
Survivors include one son, Robert Lee Rector of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Terry Rector of Gastonia, Steve Rector, Larry Rector and Donna Rowland all of Bessemer City and four great grandchildren.

MAIDEN — Edith Proctor Wilson, 86, of Maiden, died June 15, 2003. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a member. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at Bass Smith Funeral Home.
Born in Catawba County she was active in the Women’s and Children’s Program for a number of years.
Survivors include two daughters, JoAnn Ostrander and Nancy Hines; three sons, Jimmy Wilson, Kenneth Wilson and Harold Wilson; 12 grandchildren, John Huggins, James Huggins, Rodney Hines, Kelly Hines Cross, Jason Wilson, Jennifer Wilson White, Christy Wilson Anthony, Jenna Wilson, Trevor Wilson, Shasta Majia, Denise Dixon and Teena McDonald; 12 great-grandchildren; three step-brothers, Gene Proctor, Howard Proctor and Billy Proctor and two step-sisters, Virgie Stallings and Wilma Steen.

Born in Catawba County she was retired from the textile industry.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews and two sister-in-laws.

CHERRYVILLE — Rachel Humphries Carpenter, 56, of 818 Saint Mark’s Church Road, died June 16, 2003. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church Chapel, where she was a member. A private burial followed.
Born in Gaston County, she was an embroiderer at American Licensed Products.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest Carpenter; one son, Dennis Michael Humphries of Cherryville; one brother, Bo Humphries; two sisters, Shirley Valentine of Clyde and Vivian Young of Tampa, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Allen Humphries, Jordan Humphries and Justin Humphries.

Born in Burke County, she was a former employee of Valdese Manufacturing and Drexel Knitting and worked in child care.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Rhyne of Wakefield, England and Mark Rhyne of Drexel; four grandchildren, Susan Rhyne, Catherine Rhyne, Christopher Rhyne and Paige Rhyne; one brother, Wilson Murray of Lenoir; and four sisters, Margaret Whisnant Pressley of Gastonia, Eloise Whisnant Bedford, Melodene Whisnant Spivey and Clara Whisnant Ware, all of Valdese.

She was born in Rutherford County.
Survivors include one sister, Virginia Laws of Crouse; and several nieces and nephews.

Carl Mauney
STATESVILLE — Carl G. Mauney, 94, of 3459 Taylorsville Highway, died June 16, 2003. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today at Front Street Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. today at Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Kings Mountain, he was a retired minister from Berea Baptist Church and hospital chaplain from Iredell Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel Parks Mauney; one son, Carl Richard Mauney of Moorseville; two daughters, Rachel Ann Curtis of Denver and Joy Carol Gobble of Shelby; seven grandchildren, Amy Mehochko, Sarah Faircloth, Preston Curtis, Meredith Mauney, Jennifer Brown, Suzannah Pessagno and Emily Gobble; and two great-grandchildren.

Born in Catawba County, she was employed by Catawba County Schools as a cafeteria worker.
Survivors include two sisters, Carmen Harris of Maiden and Janice Loftin of Catawba; and one brother, Robert Hildebran of Sherrills Ford.
