LAWNDALE - Christine Campbell Martin, 74, of 238 Flat Rock Road, died Jan. 29, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Friendship United Methodist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:30 until 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a member of the Friendship Club for Seniors, the Friendship Sunday School Class, and the United Methodist Women. She worked with Shadowline, Inc. for 20 years until retirement.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Martin of Lawndale, and Michael Martin of Belmont; one brother, J. Gary Campbell of Lawndale; two sisters, Joan C. Newton of Casar, and Carolyn C. Jenkins of Shelby; and four grandchildren, Brandon Martin, Alex Martin, Jeremy Martin, and Julie Martin.

Thurman Ritchie
CHARLOTTE - Thurman Edward Ritchie, 67, died Jan. 28, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mulberry Baptist Church where he was a member. Internment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a professional truck driver with Burlington Industries of Cramerton for 47 years.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ritchie; two step-daughters, Deborah Benage of Greenville, S.C., and Cheryl Little of Billings, Mont.; and a step-son, Wendell Louisiana Avenue, Ahseville, N.C. 28806.

Virginia Carey
Virginia Hatfield Carey, 73, of 133 Boulder Drive, died Jan. 30, 2002.
Arrangements are incomplete at Warlick Funeral Home.

Shirley Thompson
ATLANTA, Ga. - Shirley Laughridge Thompson, 78, formerly of Lincolnton. died Jan. 29, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall one hour prior to the service.
Born in Gastonia, she was a volunteer for Christian Ministries, and Lincoln Hospice.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna Thompson Collins of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Lawrence Laughridge of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters, Bea Chambless of Vero Beach, Fla., Norma Williams of Raleigh, and Marion Carpenter of Kings Mountain; and two grandchildren, Jay Collins, and Kelly Martin.
Memorials may be made to Portsbridge Hospice, 4598 Barclay Road, Dunwoody, Ga. 30338.

Jacques Shipp
Jacques Tremaynes “Snake” Shipp, 24, of 309 Newcastle Ave., died Dec. 28, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Providence Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Pine St. Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a member of Pine St. Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a son, Zharma Phinx of Lincolnton, his father, Herman E. Harris of Lincolnton; his mother, Sallie Shipp of Lincolnton; a brother, William A. Harris of Lincolnton; a sister, Felicia White of Charlotte; and his grandmother, Jennie Shipp of Lincolnton.
Memorials may be made to Pine St. Presbyterian Church.

Lena Sipe
CHERRYVILLE - Lena Marjorie Ballard Sipe, 82, of 204 Harrelson Road, died Dec. 30, 2002. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home. Burial followed in City Memorial Cemetery.
Born in Cherryville, she was a member of Community Pentecostal Holiness Church in Stanley, and she and her husband owned and operated People’s Cleaners.
Survivors include a son, Larry Sipe of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren, Cari Edwards and Gordon Edwards of Chapel Hill and Casey Sipe of Cherryville; and a sister, Coleen Chapman of Crouse.
Memorials may be made to Community Pentecostal Center, 320 Ralph Hansel Blvd., Stanley, N.C. 28164.

Roney Sides
Roney Leroy Sides, 60, of 144 Lakewood Ave., died Dec. 30, 2002. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Southside Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Catawba County, he worked as a sales manager for Western Southern Life Insurance for 30 years before retiring.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie L. Sides; a son, Gregory Sides of Lincolnton; a daughter, Rhonda Sides Rumple of Greensboro; six brothers, Harold Sides and Danny Sides, both of Lenoir, Haskell Sides and Richard Sides, both of Lincolnton, Bill Sides of Kannapolis and Sankey Sides of Denver; four sisters, Mildred Graham and Queta Vea Buffkin, both of Loris, S.C., Linda Reel of Iron Station, and Loreta Atkins of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, Julianna Sides, Madeline Sides, Natalie Sides and Landon Rumple.

Thomas Hamrick
CHERRYVILLE - Thomas “Tom” G. Hamrick, 78, of 102 Countryside Drive, died Dec. 30, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenters Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Cleveland County, he was retired from Cocker Machine and Foundry of Gastonia, a WII Army Veteran and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Johnnie B. Hamrick; two sons, Thomas G. Hamrick Jr. and Daniel A. Hamrick of Cherryville; a brother, Joe Hamrick of Shelby; three sisters, Ruth H. Beam of Shelby, Velva Hamrick of Fallston and Rachel Ballard of Stanley; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Wilma Crawford
CHARLOTTE - Wilma Helen Wright Crawford, 72, died Dec. 29, 2002. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at McEwen Charlotte Chapel. Interment will follow in Elmwood City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 tonight at the funeral home.
Born in Franconia, Va., she attended Forest Hill Church and retired as a nurse from Randolph OB/GYN after 35 years of service. She was also a member of NAACOG.
Survivors include her husband, Vance Crawford; a son, Jim Crawford of Charlotte; two daughters, Cathy C. Putnam of Charlotte, and Susan C. Hoke of Lincolnton; a granddaughter, Joanna Leigh Putnam; two sisters, Ilona Love of Woodbridge, Va. and Jean W. Anderson of Rocky Mount, Va.; and a brother, Sonny Wright of Franconia, Va.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Janice Hull Long, 74, formerly of Lincolnton, died Dec. 30, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hardin. The family will receive friends from 11 until 12:30 p.m. prior to the service.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a cosmetologist, a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Priscilla Book Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Carole L. Sherrill of Lincolnton and Denice L. Stewart of Portland, Ore.; a grandson, Clay Sherrill of Lincolnton; and a sister, Guyann Johnson of Vale.

GASTONIA - Ida Neal Thompson, 81, of 1770 Oak Hollow Road, died Dec. 30, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Leonard’s Fork Baptist Church where she was a long time member. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Burke County, she was a homemaker and a member of Senior Love Group at her church.
Survivors include four sons, Bil Thompson of Dallas, Charles Thompson of Gastonia, Robert Thompson of Dallas, and James Thompson of Gastonia; five daughters, Edna Leonard and Mary Leonard of Dallas, Helen Thompson of Kings Mountain, Shirley Womble and Dorothy Richard, both of Lincolnton; one brother, A.H. Neal of Lincolnton; one sister, Edna Reynolds of Lincolnton; thirty grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Rheba Miller
LAWNDALE - Rheba Marguerite Tillman Miller, 61, of 6433-1 Fallston Road, died Dec. 30, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church where she was a member. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
Born in Cleveland County, she was retired from Volusia County Schools.
Survivors include a son, Stacey Miller of Enterprise, Fla.; a daughter, Dawne Ragon of Lawndale; a brother Garry Tillman of Lawndale; two sisters, Loretta Justice and Forrestine Teague, both of Lawndale; and three grandchildren, Bryanna Navarro, Lauren Ragon and Bowen Ragon.

James Horn
MOORESBORO - James “Bus” Horn, 84, of 543 Sandy Run Church Road, died Dec. 28, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mundy’s Chapel Methodist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
Born in Cleveland County, he was formerly employed by Cone Mills and also served during WWII as an Army medic.
Survivors include two daughters, Audrey Mae Horn of Nashville, Tenn. and Regina Lynn Horn of Shelby; two brothers, Charlie Horn of Mooresboro and Alfred Horn of Hickory; four sisters, Lilie Jane Horn and Willette Moore of Mooresboro, Elizabeth Mintz of Kings Mountain, and Kathaleen Lowe of Charlotte; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
