Born in Rowan County, he was retired from the furniture industry, a WWII U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife Evelyn R. Kirk of the home; two step-sons, Gary Long and Dennis Long both of Walhalla, SC; two brothers, Roy Kirk of Kannapolis and Robert Kirk of China Grove; one sister, Angie Sides of Sherrills Ford; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
