CHARLOTTE - Frances Mundy Smith Allison, 84, died July 18, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the “Chapel in the Oaks” at Harry & Bryant Company. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends following the service.
Born in Lincoln County, she was employed with Allison Fence Company for 15 years. She was a member of the Kiwanis Club and Boys Town, including Boys Town Auctions, and Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Ronald E. Smith of Charlotte; two step sons, Graham T. Allison Jr. of Belmont and James W. Allison of Charlotte; a step daughter, Ginger Allison McGee of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Betty Jean Mundy Falls Hilton of Lincolnton; a brother, Paul Miller Mundy of Spartanburg, S.C.; and one grandchild, Jennifer Smith Toke. Vivian Surratt
SHELBY - Vivian MacKinzie Surratt, 6-month-old daughter of Stoney and Tammy Ross Surratt of 102 Persimmon Drive Apt. C, died July 17, 2002. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8 at the S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Sadé Smith; grandparents, E.L. and Ruby Abraham Surratt, and J.R. and Lena Litte Ross, all of Shelby; and her great-grandmother, Dora Johnson Ross of Shelby.

EAST ORANGE, N.J. - David Lloyd Cornwell, 77, of 530 North Maple Avenue, died July 17, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hopewell Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

Vera Dellinger
Vera Lee Hamrick Dellinger, 80, of the Brian Center and formerly of Thompson Street in Shelby, died July 19, 2002. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial followed in Cleveland Memorial Park.
Born in Cleveland County, she was formerly employed with Medical Arts Pharmacy, and Eckerd Drug until retirement. She taught Sunday School at her church, was a Y.W.A. leader, and a member of the Happy Hearts and Jewell Grigg Sunday School Class.
Survivors include two sons, Ralph Dellinger and Charles Dellinger, both of Shelby; a daughter, Fran Walker of Denver; eight grandchildren, Mike Dellinger, Mark Dellinger, Neal Walker, Kelly Dellinger, Steve Dellinger, Lori Wesson, Anita Sain, and Shawn Delligner; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Moena Hartsoe
STATESVILLE - Moena Gilland Hartsoe, 89, of Heritage Place Adult Living and formerly of Maiden, died July 18, 2002. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel at Chapman Funeral Home. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Born in Iredell County, she was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and worked in the textile industry until retirement.
Survivors include two son, Olen T. Hartsoe Jr. of Petersburg, Va., and Wade Franklin Hartsoe of Maiden; three daughters, Jean Crouse of Stony Point, Joyce Edwards of Sherrills Ford, and Nancy Smith of Lincolnton; 15 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren.
Cora Beal
Cora Lee Leatherman Beal, 89, of Lakewood Care Center and formerly of 3635 Shortcut Road, died July 19, 2002. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Church of God in Maiden. Burial followed in Lawing Chapel Church Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she worked in the textile industry until retirement.
Survivors include a son, Clarence Lee Beal of Maiden; three sisters, Shirley Beal of Maiden, Pearl Turner, and Alice Lingerfelt, both of Lincolnton; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and six great great-grandchildren.

Harold Devine
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Harold Dean Devine, 58, of 11725 Woodlea Drive and formerly of Lincolnton, died July 19, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at First Christian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a Master Sgt. with the U.S. Air Force serving in the Vietnam Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Devine; two sons, Christopher Devine of Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Wanda Guest, and Janet Dawkins, both of Shelby; one grandson, Donnie Davenport of Shelby; and four great-grandchildren.

Clara Boatwright
SHELBY - Clara Boyles Boatwright, 77, of 409 Edgewood Road, died July 21, 2002. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 until 8 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a play school director of the Shelby City Park for 20 years, and worked in the cafeteria of Cleveland Memorial Hospital until retirement. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Shelby.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Boatwright and Steve Boatwright, both of Shelby; three brothers, Harlan Boyles and Carroll Boyles, both of Raleigh, and Howard Boyles of Morganton; a sister, Pauline Boyles Houser of Vale; and two grandchildren, Laura Boatwright and Matt Boatwright.

Ralph Williams
GREENSBORO - Ralph F. Williams, 84, of 5045 Blakeshire Drive, died July 21, 2002. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Lakeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a U.S. Army Air Corp., WWII veteran, and a member of the Burlington Moose Lodge. He was a retired supervisor at Defense Logistics Agency after 31 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Ouida Norris Williams; a step daughter, Paulette Walton of Pittsboro; a step son, Kirby Allen of Durham; a sister, Alice Clanton of Lincolnton; a brother, Bill Williams of Morehead City; and two grandchildren, Randy Allen and Ricky Allen.

FALLSTON - Mattie Eljean Turner McMillian, 85, of 1308 East Stagecoach Trail, formerly of Sylvester, Ga., died July 20, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Stamey Funeral Home. A graveside service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Wallace Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
Born in Calhoun County, Ga., she worked for Coats & Clark Thread Company in Albany, Ga. until retirement.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Turner of Bruchkobel, Germany, and Edward Turner of Sylvester, Ga.; a daughter, Betty Jean California, died July 19, 2002. No services are scheduled at this time.
Born in Detroit, Mich., she was a homemaker.
