Birdie Sneed Smith, 92, of 1117 West Highway 150, died July 13, 2003. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mary’s Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 until 3:45 p.m. today prior to the service.
Born in Gaston County, she was a textile employee.
Survivors include four-step sons, Robert Digh of Raleigh, John Digh of Lincolnton, Kenneth Smith of Kings Mountain and Milfred Smith of California; three step-daughters, Pernell Ross of Aiken, SC, Mae Ledbetter and Nolean Davis both of Lincolnton; one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.

Jerry Gordon
DALLAS — Jerry “Smoke” Wade Gordon, 67, of Dallas, died July 9, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Long Shoals Wesleyan Church, where he was a member. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 tonight at McLean Funeral Home.
Born in Gaston County, he was a U.S. Army veteran, member of Masonic Lodge #704, owner of SMP, Inc. and Golf Paws.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Martin Gordon, one son, Martin Gordon of Crouse; two daughters, Leslie Webb and Laura Purvis of Dallas; two brothers, Jim Gordon of Hilton Head and Gene Gordon of Belmont and four grandchildren, Anna Webb, Russell Purvis, Nolan Purvis and Jesse Webb.
Memorials may be made to Hephzibah Children’s Home, 6601 Zebulon Road, Macon, Ga. 31220-7606.

Emily Stamey
Emily Price Stamey, 53, of 934 Magnolia Grove Road, died July 11, 2003. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Wesleyan Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Born in Catawba County, she was a self-employed Interior Landscaper.
Survivors include her husband, Randy Stamey of the home; two sons, Donald Hollar Jr. of Hickory and John Stamey of the home; two daughters, Julie Ingle of Newton and Leah Stamey of the home; mother, Marvelle Price of Newton and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 N. Cedar Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Verna Jarrett
CONOVER — Verna Beatrice Medlin Jarrett, 94, of 210 3rd Avenue NE, died July 11, 2003. A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Burke Mortuary.
Born in Catawba County, she was a retired nurse from Lincoln Medical Center and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, David Jarrett of Lenoir; two grandchildren, Kelly Jarrett of Naperville, Ill. and Paige Lewis of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; one great-grandchild and two sisters, Mrs. W.W. Austin and Mrs. Ralph Mitchem both of Newton.

F. McLeymore
Furman Henry McLeymore, 66, of 2904 Tryon Courthouse Road, died July 11, 2003. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Cherokee County, he was a machinist for 26 years at Star Linear Systems of Charlotte.
Survivors include his wife, Cindi McLeymore of the home; four sons, Johnny McLeymore, Darryl McLeymore, Jeffery McLeymore all of Cherryville and Doug Arrowood of Grover; mother, Roselle McLeymore of Bessemer City; five brothers, Sammy McLeymore and Dewey McLeymore both of Kings Mountain, Edward McLeymore and Harry McLeymore both of Bessemer City and Charles McLeymore of Gastonia; two sisters, Wanda Clark of Gastonia and Shirley Arrowood of Bessemer City; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Born in Gaston County, he was a retired supervisor from Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation, a Corporal in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Jackie Owens Centofanti of Cherryville; two brothers, Larry Owens of Cherryville and Charles Owens of Beaufort, SC; one sister, Hilda Craig of Vale and one grandchild, Anna Centofanti.

CHERRYVILLE — Walter Wallace Richardson, 71, of 3702 Sorrell Road, died July 10, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
Born in Lincoln County he was a retired construction worker.
Survivors include his wife, Henrietta Camp Richardson of the home; seven sons, Vernice Richardson, Wayne Richardson, Benny Richardson, Norris Richardson, Richie Richardson all of Cleveland, Ohio, Darryl Richardson and Paul Richardson of Toledo, Ohio; two daughters, Gwendolyn R. Solomon and Valrica Richardson both of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, William Richardson of Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Lela Shanks of Greensboro, NC; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Zora Flynn
NEWTON — Zora Lee Treadway Flynn, 96, of 1041 Little Road, died July 13, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Welcome Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Madison County, she was a homemaker and a Sunday School teacher at Welcome Baptist Church for 50 years.
Survivors include four sons, James Flynn and Robert Flynn, both of Catawba, Walter Flynn of Maiden and Herschel Flynn of Conover; one daughter, Barbara Reinhardt of Newton; one sister, Jessie Griffin of Marshall; one brother, Jasper Treadway of Mars Hill; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

Willie Rathbone
Willie Eugene Rathbone, 36, of 405 Hoffman Road, died July 12, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Warlick Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Friday at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in York County, S.C., he was employed by RSI in Maiden.
Survivors include his parents, Willis and Elsie Rathbone of Lincolnton; two brothers, Michael Rathbone of Crouse and Daniel Rathbone of Lincolnton; three sisters, Virginia Ann Rathbone of Shelby and Glenda Rathbone and Brenda Rathbone, both of Lincolnton.

Edwin Herndon
SHELBY — Edwin “Red” Gerald Herndon Jr., 51, of Shelby, died July 12, 2003. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today at Eastside Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Grover Cemetery.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a manager at AMVETS Post 42 and was an insurance agent, an auto salesman and a member of Zoar Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Ann Carroll Herndon Gold of Shelby; one son, Carroll Phillip Herndon of Raleigh; and four brothers, John Herndon of Patterson Springs, Allan Herndon of Charlotte, Jerry Herndon and Roger Herndon, both of Lincolnton.

NEWTON — Donna Maria Isenhour, 59, of 2094 Claremont Road, died July 14, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church where she was a member. Entombment will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 until 2 p.m. at the church.
She was born in Catawba County.
Survivors include her parents, Albert W. and Stella H. Isenhour of Newton; and one sister, Carole Elliott of Cornelius.

Born in Gaston County, she was retired from Gambrill Mill.
Survivors include her husband, Joe L. Cobb; one son, Johnny Fraley of Bessemer City; one daughter, Joyce Fraley of Bessemer City; one brother, William Wells of Bessemer; and two sisters, Mary Payne and Inez Wells both of Bessemer City.

Betty Kiser
CROUSE — Betty Mae Gantt Kiser, 66, of 210 Will Kiser Road, died July 14, 2003. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Lutheran Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 tonight at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Mecklenburg County, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Sammy O. Kiser; two sons, Bruce E. Kiser and Gary Kiser, both of Crouse; one brother, James A. Gantt of Lincolnton; one sister, Rita Francis of Hendersonville; and one granddaughter, Allison Kiser.

Tyrus Sherrill
VALE — Tyrus Thomas Sherrill Jr., 55, of 7575 N.C. 27 West, died July 8, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Webb Chapel Methodist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he was employed by Alpharma in shipping and receiving and was a retired U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife Patricia H. Sherrill; two step-sons, Ralph C. Helms of Statesville and Timothy C. Bartles II of Newton; and four sisters, Mary Lou Herman of Hickory and Betty Curringer, Linda Bost and Judy Hicks, all of Denver.
