Juanita “Nita” Thornburg Houser, 73, of 2976 N.C. 182, died July 25, 2003. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Bethphage Lutheran Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a retired shipping clerk in the furniture industry.
Survivors include her husband, Everette Houser; one son, Tim Houser of Lincolnton; two sisters, Peggy Heavner of Sherrills Ford and Inez Starr of Lincolnton; a grandson, Brandon Houser; and one step-daughter, Helen Hamrick of Lincolnton.
Memorials may be made to Bethphage Lutheran Church Building Fund, 3440 N.C. 182, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Mary Rudisill
Mary Buff Rudisill, 80, of 110 Mull Road, died July 27, 2003. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at E.F. Drum Funeral Home.
Born in Burke County, she was a retired spinner in the textile industry.
Survivors include two sons, Ernest “Butch” Rudisill Jr. and Larry Rudisill, both of Lincolnton; three daughters, Ann Rinehardt, Mary Jo Bridges and Linda McGinnis, all of Lincolnton; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or American Diabetes Association.

Flora Humphries
VALE — Flora Denton Humphries, 77, of 380 Rockdale Road, died July 26, 2003. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Assembly of God in Gastonia where she was a member. Burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Carpenters Funeral Home in Cherryville.
Born in Gaston County, she was a homemaker and retired from Sweetree Manufacturing in Cherryville.
Survivors include her son, James Lester Humphries; three daughters, Patricia Ann Reep of Cherryville, Barbara Jean Mauney of Stanley and Lydia Lyvon Neal of Vale; a brother, Grover Lester Denton of Clover, S.C.; three sisters, Ruby Ross of Dallas, Margaret Gregg of Gastonia and Essie Love Keener of Boger City; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

HICKORY — Gracie Azalee Keever, 85, of the Brian Center in Hickory and formerly of Lincolnton, died July 26, 2003. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Warlick Funeral Home.
She was a retired textile employee.
Survivors include one son, Jimmy Keever of Lincolnton; one daughter, Louise Hatcher of Connelly Springs, N.C.; three brothers, Roy Hawkins, Jack Hawkins and Bill Hawkins, all of Lincolnton; three sisters, Lula Helton, Pearl Byrd and Emma Lovings, all of Lincolnton; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Sally Lackey
CHERRYVILLE — Sally Goode Lackey, 70, of 126 Paul H. Beam Road, died July 26, 2003. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today in Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenters Funeral Home in Cherryville. Interment will follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. today.
Born in Rutherford County, she was retired from Houser Drug Store and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Cathey Hamm of Cherryville; one son David Lackey of Beaufort, S.C.; three brothers, Joe Goode of Albermarle, Bob Goode of Cherryville, and Jim Goode of Vale; four grandchildren, Kara Hamm, Samuel Lackey, Ethan Lackey and Kate Lackey.

Christopher Deal
Christopher Anthony Deal, 28, of 3167 Baxter Deaton Lane, died July 28, 2003. The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Warlick Funeral Home with burial to follow in Lawings Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was born in Lincoln County.
Survivors include his father, Roy Deaton of Lincolnton; mother, Darlene Beal of Maiden; a son, Christopher Randall Deal of Lincolnton; a daughter, Elizabeth Freeman of Lincolnton; and two brothers, Ashley Deaton of Lincolnton and Joshua Young of Newton.

Louise Nichols
DENVER — Louise Poole Gallagher Nichols, 91, of 1949 Beth Haven Church Road, died July 25, 2003. The funeral was at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Westport Baptist Church. Burial followed in Beth Haven Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a retired bookkeeper with Southeastern Construction Company.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Ashley Kirbas, Andrea Angel and Arthur Gallagher; three step-grandchildren, Hal C. Nichols Jr., William Frank Nichols and Ruth Lynn Ellison; five great-grandchildren; and 17 step-great-grandchildren.

CHERRYVILLE — Junius B. “J.B.” Houser, 93, formerly of Vale, died July 28, 2003. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Messiah United Methodist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a former farmer and a retired secretary-treasurer of Farmer’s Mutual Fire Ins. Co. after 67 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Lorene Taylor Houser of Vale; two sons, Jerry Houser of Lincolnton and Wayne Houser of Greensboro; two daughters, Rachel Taylor Heavner and Kathy Taylor Loving, both of Vale; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Clarence Hawkins
MAIDEN — Clarence Daniel Hawkins, 70, of 3795 Walker Road, died July 27, 2003. The funeral was Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Burke Mortuary in Maiden. Burial followed in Maiden City Cemetery.
Born in Murphy, he was a former truck driver for Carolina Freight, a Mason, a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War and a member of the Maiden Lodge #592.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Lineberger Hawkins; a daughter, Tanya Jayne Hawkins of Lincolnton; a brother, Danny Lee Gibson of Lincolnton; and a sister, Brenda Clark of Maiden.

Charles Willis
SHELBY — Charles Ray Willis, 55, of New House Road, died July 28, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Patterson Springs Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Stamey Funeral Home.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a retired machinist in the rub room at Drexel Heritage and a member of Patterson Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Tim Willis of Ellenboro; one daughter, Candy Willis of Ellenboro; one brother, Thomas Willis of Vale; and one sister, Sybil Terry of Shelby.

Eva Abernathy
CHERRYVILLE — Eva Pearl Ramsey Abernathy, 84, of 221 Bremen Drive, Lexington, formerly of Dale Drive, Cherryville died July 29, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 until 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
Born in Gaston County, she was an independent cosmetologist, formerly employed at the Carlton Mill, and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Kirkendall of Lexington, NC; two grandchildren, Kristi Thornhill and Chad Kirkendall; two brothers, D.B. Ramsey Jr. of Cherryville and Daris Ramsey of Kings Mountain; three sisters, Louise Fowler, Margaret Brown and Zula Beam, all of Cherryville; and two great-grandchildren.

Born in El Paso, Texas, he was a member of East Side Baptist Church in Newton.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Downing Stout; two daughters, Pam Perkins of Newton and Mary Dyer of Ikerd; and four grandchildren.

Dennis Weber Sr.

Born in Ohio, he was a mechanic with Petco Industries and was a US Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Weber; two sons, Dennis Weber Jr. of Morganton and Carl Weber of Newton; one daughter, Brenda Hartman of West Virginia; and five grandchildren.

Wanda Haire
Wanda DuBois Haire, 74, of 2311 East Main Street, died July 31, 2002. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today at Antioch Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Richland, S.C., she was a homemaker.
Survivors include five sons, Robert Poarch of Darin, Ga., Steve Poarch of Mt. Holly, Wayne Poarch of Charlotte, Michael Haire of Lincolnton, and Kenny Haire of Glennfield, Ga.; two daughters, Judy Britt of Lincolnton and Sandra Stokes of Kingsland, Ga.; two brothers, Monroe DuBois of Florida and Johnny DuBois of St. Simons, Ga.; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
