Jewel Bennett Branch, 70, of Hickory, died Jan. 25, 2001, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 4, 1930, in Wilmington, she was a daughter of the late Dan Bennett and Catherine Hagenbruch Bennett Gallagher.
A member of First Baptist Church, she was active in Sunday school, Dynamic Adults and Melodears Senior Choir. A member of AARP, she retired from First Union National Bank after 32 years of service.
She received several awards for her work with the March of Dimes and was active on the board of elections. She also kept the nursery for the Tuesday morning Bible study at Hickory Community Chapel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Branch Jr.; and two brothers.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. and Darlene Branch of Anderson, S.C.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Thomas Tucker III of Fletcher and Cathy and Eric Reckard of Boston, Mass.; three grandsons, James Robert Branch of South Carolina, Robert Carl Branch Jr. of Quantico, Va., and Thomas Robert Tucker IV of Fort Gordon, Ga.; eight granddaughters, Catherine Elizabeth Reckard, Barbara Bobbi Whitworth Reckard and Erica Paige Reckard of Boston, Mass., Jennifer Elizabeth Tucker of Fletcher, Wendy Michelle Price, Heather Dawn Brown and Stacey Anne Huffman of Hickory and Melissa Branch; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. William Leathers III, Pat Pearce and Billy Mobley at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at her church.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

TAYLORSVILLE - Jimmie Thomas Fox, 71, of Taylorsville, died Jan. 24, 2001, at Alexander Community Hospital.
Born June 3, 1928, in Alexander County, he was a son of the late Will O. and Rebecca Jane Hendrix Fox.
A member of Liledoun Baptist Church, he was a farmer and known for his prize winning produce and pumpkins at the Alexander County Fair. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was the owner of Sanitary Pick Up in Alexander County from 1966 to 1988.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Otis Fox and Darrell Fox; and three sisters, Maggie Pope, Willa Mae Rufty and Anna Mae Fox.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche Fox; two sons, Lonnie Thomas Fox and Steve Wayne Fox of Taylorsville; three daughters, Marcia Barnes, Anna Mae Wallace and Darlene May of Taylorsville; two brothers, Ralph Fox of Taylorsville and Tom Fox of Conover; two sisters, Virginia Stevenson and Odessa White of Taylorsville; seven grandchildren, Teresa Wallace, Amanda Wallace, Mia Fox, Lee Fox, Angel Fox, Vanna May and Monica May; a number of nephews, nieces and friends, Alan Fox, John Fox, Aimee Fox, Frances Fox, Sara Fox, Monica Fox and Lillian Fox.

A member of Denver Baptist Church, he was a self-employed lumber broker.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James F. Jim Jarrett and Donald Jay Jarrett; and a stepgrandson, Caleb Knox.

A member of River Hills Community Church, she served on the pre-school board. A graduate of Charlotte Christian School, she attended Montreat College in Black Mountain, N.C. She was a member of the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in East Valdese.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Columbus Burns; two brothers, Ephriam Ray Orders and Joseph Herman Orders; and a stepdaughter, Malloy Burns.

Born July 14, 1931, in Caldwell County, he was a son of Marion Mamie Cannon Duncan of Granite Falls and the late William Kent Duncan.
A Baptist, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Hickory and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He retired from General Electric after 36 years of service.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Hoyle.

A member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, she worked in the church nursery for 15 years. She was a homemaker and farming wife.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Ferman Sigmon; a daughter, Ruth Marie Sigmon; two sisters, Essie Johnson Gilreath and Mary Johnson Coonse; and a grandson, Alex Sigmon. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Fred E. and Jeanette Sigmon, Glenn and Shirley Sigmon and Dennis and Nina Sigmon of Taylorsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Bill Teague of Taylorsville; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nephews and nieces.

A member of Linney's Grove Baptist Church, he was a Master Mason in the Lee Lodge. A poultry farmer, he was owner and operator of JC Wallace Shop for 20 years in Vashti.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, an infant brother and Raymond M. Wallace; and a sister, Lucille Burgess.

Born July 3, 1918, in Burke County, he was a son of Ophelia Berry Hildebrand of Drexel and the late Frank A. Hildebrand Sr.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he retired as a Lt. Colonel with the military and as a member of the Senior Executive Service in Washington, D.C. He was a Mason for more than 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mazie Swindell Hildebrand; a brother, Frank Andrew Hildebran Jr.; and a sister, Margaret Hildebrand Berry.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Hildebrand of Woodbridge, Va.; a son, Bruce Hildebrand Jr. of Woodbridge, Va.; and two grandchildren, Scott Andrew Hildebrand of Woodbridge, Va., and Angela Megan Hildebrand of Woodbridge, Va.

Wade Pinkney Abee, 81, of Hickory, died Jan. 27, 2001, at Catawba Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 27, 1919, in Burke County, he was a son of the late Dolphus and Cora Berry Abee.
A member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church, he was a former deacon and teacher. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he retired as a machinist from Newton Knitting Mill after 20 years of service.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Merton Abee, Ray Abee, Earl Abee and Gordon Abee; three sisters, Neverta Benfield, Marie Abee and Alberta Abee.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Young Abee; a brother, Bill Abee of Hildebran; two sons and daughters-in-law, Knolan P. and Janet Abee of Hickory and Gwyn H. and Tina Abee of Statesville; a daughter, Sheila Jean Warren of Spartanburg, S.C.; and seven grandchildren.

Born Jan. 17, 1914, in Caldwell County, she was a daughter of the late Robert A. and Molly Cooper Carter.
A member of First Baptist Church and a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Damascus, Va., she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard F. Brooks.

Born Oct. 1, 1908, in Burke County, he was a son of the late William H. and Martha Pearl Glass Warlick.
He retired from Falls Manufacturing after more than 50 years of service. He attended Concord Baptist Church and was a member of the Granite Falls Fire Department for more than 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Hice Warlick; five brothers, George Warlick, John Warlick, William P. Warlick, Robert L. Warlick and Edwin L. Warlick; and a sister, Mary Hill Foster.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Edith Warlick of Lenoir; and a number of nephews and nieces. The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Dean Harrold and Myron Davis at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mackie-High Funeral Home.

A member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, he retired as a sales representative from Pump & Lighting Co. in Charlotte and was past president of Viewmont Optimist Club and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Brewer Gregg; three brothers; and six sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Hamby Brewer; a son-in-law and his wife, Michael and Cathy Gregg of Hickory; a sister, Annie Mae Brewer Carter Goodwin of Rockwell; two granddaughters, Erin Gregg and Jennifer Gregg of Hickory; and a number of nephews and nieces.
