Born Nov. 5, 1934, in Anniston, Ala., she was a daughter of the late John M. and Marie Fowler Gayle.
A charter member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, she was a Sunday school teacher and chairwoman of the music committee. A homemaker, she was a member of Hickory Service League, president of the Jaycettes and was active in Hickory community affairs.
Survivors include her husband, Charles M. Snipes; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Bill Rendleman of Clemmons and Robin and Michael Hager of Greensboro; a sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Dwight Morgan of Opelika, Ala.; two grandsons, Brian Lee Hager of Greensboro and John Charles Rendleman of Clemmons; three granddaughters, Rebecca Grace Rendleman and Katherine Eleanor Rendleman of Clemmons and Laura Marie Hager of Greensboro; father- and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Wesley Snipes of Lincolnton; and friends, Rachel Smith Clay of Jacksonville, Fla., and Linda Faye Smith of Maiden.

A member of Grace Reformed United Church of Christ, she retired from Klopman Mills.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Mead Harkins; and a brother, Paul Augustus Moose.

Born June 11, 1932, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late C.T. and Mary Catherine Munday Bumgarner.
A member of First Baptist Church in Las Vegas, she was a private secretary and an accounting manager.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. Conte Jr.; a son, Gary Corpening; a brother, Howard Bumgarner; and two sisters, Marie Williams and Thelma Smith.
Survivors include a brother, Lloyd Bumgarner of Sanford; three sisters, Willa Mae Huffman of Maiden, Lillian Williams of Newton and Mildred Cline of Conover; and a number of nephews and nieces.

Henry W. Seitz Sr., 89, of Newton, died Nov. 2, 2000, at Brian Center Nursing Care in Viewmont.
Born July 26, 1911, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Lewis H. and Mary Alice Lutz Seitz.
A lifelong member of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, he was a member of the church council and Lutheran men and was a former choir member. Past president of Catawba County Farm Bureau, he retired as a dairy farmer. A founding board member of Fairbrook Fire Department, he served on Catawba County Planning Board.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Oscar Seitz, George Seitz, Cromer Seitz and Luther Seitz; and two sisters, Mattie Seitz and Catherine Seitz.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Mae Goodman Seitz; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Kathy Seitz Jr. of Claremont; two daughters and sons-in-law, Alice S. and Jerry Rhoney of Vale and Gail S. and Larry Hoke of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Barbara S. McCombs of Conover; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of nephews and nieces.

A Marine Raider during World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force and retired from the military.

The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

LENOIR — Elizabeth Ann Greene, 58, of Hartland Road, died Nov. 3, 2000, at her residence.
Born Dec. 16, 1941, in Caldwell County, she was a daughter of Elizabeth Gay Simmons Bumgarner of Lenoir and the late Richard Clinton Bumgarner.
A member of Hartland Baptist Church, she worked in the furniture industry.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Joseph Worth Greene Sr.; a son, Joseph Worth Greene Jr. of Lenoir; two daughters, Cheryl Elizabeth Beaty and Barbara Jo Oliver of Lenoir; a brother, Gary Clinton Bumgarner of Lenoir; a sister, Willa Dean Byrd of Lenoir; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Steve Parker and Bob Parmley at 11 a.m. Monday at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Danny Storie, T.J. Oliver, Barry Greene, Stephen Icenhour, Darren Coffey and Scott Bumgarner.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Bumgarner and Mark Icenhour.

PANSY H. PEYRONEL
VALDESE — Pansy Lee Huffman Peyronel, 84, of Peyronel Street, died Nov. 3, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
Born June 18, 1916, in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel L. and Media Lail Huffman.
A member of Christ Spiritual Church in Hildebran, she was valedictorian of Hildebran High School’s class of 1933.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifton Huffman and Kermit Odell Huffman.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Walter Peyronel; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry W. and Olivia Peyronel of Brookshire, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy P. and Robert Reed of Connelly Springs; three sisters, Cleo Huffman Hildebran and Katie Huffman Craig of Morganton and Marie Huffman Reep of Lenoir; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Kirk Reed at 3:30 p.m. today at Family Funeral Care, Kirksey Chapel.
Burial will be in Burke Memorial Park.

MORGANTON — Nell Lowdermilk Yount, 90, of Zion Road, died Nov. 3, 2000, at Brian Center East in Hickory after a period of declining health.
Born Feb. 8, 1910, in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Gessie D. Lowdermilk Blanton.
A member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray Webb; her second husband, J. Frank Yount; two sons, Harry Ray Webb and Jimmy F. Yount; a brother, Glenn Blanton; and two sisters, Edna Walters and Helen Wagner.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David A. and Margaret Yount of Newton; two sisters, Ruth Yount of Charlotte and Frances B. Leatherman of Morganton; five grandchildren and grandchildren-in-law, Deborah Y. and Robin Rice of Claremont, and Catherine Y. Smith, Gwendolyn Y. and Gary Lafone, Keith and Robin Hefner and Teddy and Diane Hefner of Hickory; 10 great-grandchildren, Rusty Smith, Mike Rice, Nikki Rice, Jessica Rice, Denise Taylor, Brian Hefner, Koreen Hefner, Anthony Rice, Joy Taylor and Meredith Lafone; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

KENNETH E. FERGUSON
LENOIR — Kenneth Eugene Ferguson, 65, of Wheeler Street, NW, died Nov. 2, 2000, at his residence. Born Nov. 25, 1934, in Raleigh, W.Va., he was a son of Henrietta Kyles Ferguson of the home and the late Foy Ferguson.
A former member of Patterson Grove Baptist Church, he retired from the assembly line at Ford Motor Company’s Lorain branch. He also served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Harper-Witherspoon American Legion Post 231.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Lee Ferguson and Foy E. Ferguson; and two sisters, Norma Jean Martin and Doris Robinson.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include two sisters, Betty J. Witherspoon of Philadelphia, Penn., and Verona M. Wooten of Willingboro, N.J.; a friend, Lorraine Rinehart of Lenoir; three foster daughters, Shira Rinehart of Lenoir and Shire Rinehart and Tiffany Rinehart of Charlotte; and two aunts, Augustine Tilly of Lenoir and Victoria Poter of Buffalo, N.Y.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Oliver W. Banks at 2 p.m. Monday at Ebony Funeral Services.
Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

TAYLORSVILLE — Debra Davis Cohen, 45, of Hiddenite, died Nov. 3, 2000, at her residence.
Born April 9, 1955, in Portsmouth, Va., she was a daughter of Sherman Jennings Davis of Moravian Falls and Mildred Marie Harwood Davis Baldwin of Chesapeake, Va.
A Baptist, she worked at Schneider Mills for 11 years.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include three daughters, Julie Shand of Portsmouth, Va., and April Shand and Angela Cohen of the home; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Jennings Davis of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Jimmy and Jody Davis and Jerry Davis of Rockwell; a sister and brother-in-law, Joy and Paul Delacruz of Kitty Hawk; a nephew, Brandon Stirewalt; a niece, Anna Delacruz; and a number of other nephews and nieces.
A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Gary W. Jennings at 11 a.m. Monday in Taylorsville City Cemetery.

Exie Mae Richey Reece, 90, of Hickory, died Nov. 3, 2000, at Camelot Manor in Granite Falls.
Born Feb. 25, 1910, in Alexander County, she was a daughter of the late Harvey S. and Kansas Mays Richey.
A member of Winklers Grove Baptist Church, she retired from the Shuford Mills spinner plant in Hickory.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Reece; a son, Wallace Sherman Reece; and 15 siblings.
Survivors include a son, William E. Reece Jr. of Taylorsville; four grandsons, Byron Wesley Reece and William Keith Reece of Granite Falls, Michael Reece of Hahira, Ga., and Richard Reece of Stockbridge, Ga.; a granddaughter, Pamela Reece of Jacksonville, Fla.; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Dale Faulkenberry at 11 a.m. Monday at her church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

MORGANTON — Lucy Huffman Hyman, 95, of Ervin Road, died Nov. 3, 2000, at Grace Hospital after a period of declining health.
Born April 23, 1905, in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary E. Reynolds Huffman.
A member of First Baptist Church in Morganton, she retired from the Burke County School System in 1946.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Waverly S. Hyman; four brothers, Frank Huffman, James Huffman, Roy Huffman and Odes Huffman; and three sisters, Leila McCall, Annie H. Poteet and Susan Belle Brittain.
Survivors include a daughter, Patsy Hyman Bentley of Morganton; and a number of nephews and nieces.
A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Thomas A. Bland Jr. at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
