Elizabeth C. Bradley, 82
Elizabeth Corn Bradley, 82, of McGuinn Road, Mill Spring, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, in Spartanburg, S.C., Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Henderson County and a daughter of the late Johnny Corn and Vesta Shipman Corn. She was a homemaker and a member of Coopers Gap Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Daniel C. Bradley; two sons, James E. Bradley and Phillip D. Bradley of Mill Spring; two daughters, Carolyn B. Searcy of Mill Spring and Patricia B. Green of Mooresboro; a brother, Edward C. Corn of Hendersonville; a sister, Maebelle Corn Orr of Hendersonville; and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Coopers Gap Baptist Church. The Revs. Hubert Street and John Godfrey will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Petty Funeral Home in Landrum, S.C., and at other times will be at the home.
Dorothy M. Camp, 65
Dorothy Inez McCall Camp, 65, of Smith Road, Pisgah Forest, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, in the Brian Center at Brevard.
She was a native of Transylvania County, the daughter of the late James Luther McCall and Geneva Smith McCall, and the wife of the late Robert Camp. She was a graduate of the former Ninth Avenue High School in Hendersonville. She was a retired homemaker. She was a member of New French Broad Baptist Church, where she belonged to the Johnsie L. Mills Memorial Mass Choir.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Anne McCall of the home; a son, Joseph L. McCall and his wife, Mary, of Pisgah Forest; two nieces, Ruby J. Walker Chatman and her husband, Harold, of Brevard and Mary E. Conley Gordon of Arden; a nephew, Joel M. Conley of Pisgah Forest; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at New French Broad Baptist Church in Pisgah Forest. The Revs. B.J. Jamison and Roy J. Young will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to the service at the church.

George K. Guice, 88, of Evans Road died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, in The Laurels of Hendersonville following a short illness.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, a son of the late John Luther Guice and Betty Fowler Guice. He was employed at Kanuga Conference Center for 30 years in the maintenance department. He was an Army veteran of World War II, stationed in Iceland. He attended Beulah Baptist Church and Crab Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Azalee Stepp, Nora Guice and Ruby Guice of Hendersonville; two brothers, Raymond Guice of Flat Rock and Ulas Guice of Horse Shoe; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Crab Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The Revs. Guy Smith and Dewey Barnwell will officiate. Lloyd C. Laughter, 72
Lloyd Calvin Laughter, 72, of Edneyville died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, in Pardee Hospital following injuries sustained in an automobile accident six weeks ago.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County and a son of the late Luther Laughter and Betty Owensby Laughter. He retired from Manning Fisher Company as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Mountain Home Baptist Church in Edneyville. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Laughter and Bryant Laughter; and a sister, Frances Laughter.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elsie Laughter; a daughter, Gail Lance of Hendersonville; a son, Larry Laughter of Hendersonville; a brother, J.V. Laughter of Hendersonville; and a granddaughter, Holly Lance.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at Mountain Home Baptist Church in Edneyville. The Revs. Bill Landreth and Ronald McClure will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service in the church.

Dale Maybin, 52
Dale Maybin, 52, of Tuxedo died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, in Four Seasons Hospice Elizabeth House.
He was a native of Henderson County and a son of the late Alfred and Juanita Maybin. He was an Army veteran, serving in Panama. He worked for 16 years for J.P. Stevens/West Point Pepperell and was employed for the last 10 years by Day International.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen Pressley Maybin; a daughter, Tara Maybin of the home; two sons, Caleb Maybin of the home and Jason Maybin of East Flat Rock; a sister, Wanda Oliver of East Flat Rock; a brother, Wade Maybin and his wife, Carline, of Waco, Texas; and many other friends and relatives.

Dorothy "Mama Dot" Shuler, 68, of Asheville, formerly of East Flat Rock, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, in Greentree Ridge Nursing Facility.
She was a resident of Henderson County for most of her life, a daughter of the late James Case and Ola Hyder Case, and the wife of William G. Case, who died in 1991. She provided child care for more than 50 years to families of Henderson County and treated each child as one of her own. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah A. Houck of Hendersonville and Dottie A. Pressley of Williamston, S.C.; a stepson, Frank Millwood of Union, S.C.; three brothers, Stephen DeFoix Case and Bernard Case of East Flat Rock and Roland Case of Hendersonville; a sister, Betty Jo McAllister of Hendersonville; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Denver C. Hall, 83
Denver Clyde Hall, 83, of Edneyville died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Oteen following an extended illness.
He was a native of Elmira, W.Va., and a son of the late Ed Hall and Estella Sharp Hall. He was a prior resident of Largo, Fla., and lived in Henderson County for the past 17 years. He retired in 1963 from Greyhound Bus Lines after 27 years of employment. He was an Army veteran of World War II and of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Katie G. Hall; a daughter, Ann Diekhoff of North Vernon, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Janie Reichlmayr of Islandton, S.C.; a stepson, Elbert Paul Timms Jr. of Lake Stevens, Wash.; a sister, Eva Hall O'Hearn of Jupiter, Fla.; a brother, Ezra O. "Jim" Hall of New Port Richey, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Phyllis Kuglin, 76
Phyllis Kuglin, 76, of Hendersonville died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, in Pardee Hospital following a period of declining health.
She was born and raised in Minot, N.D., and attended the University of North Dakota. She was an office secretary at the Minot Chamber of Commerce and banks in Minot and Louisville, Ky. She and her husband moved from Stow, Ohio, to Henderson County in 1987. She had a special love and interest in nature and animals. She was preceded in death by a sister, Shirlee Perley; and a brother, Milan Gersting.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Don Kuglin; a daughter, Vicki Garver and her husband, Ed, of Alpharetta, Ga.; a son, David Kuglin and his wife, Joyce, of Snellville, Ga.; a sister, Virginia Johnson of Minneapolis, Minn.; three grandsons, Brad and Matthew Kuglin and Josh Carver; and several nieces and nephews.

Thelma P. Kuykendall, 77, of Hendersonville died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, in Mission/St. Joseph's Hospital at Asheville.
She was a native of Henderson County and a very active member of Hendersonville First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Powell Pittillo, Howard Pittillo, Boyd Pittillo and Murgel Pittillo; and three sisters, Pauline Pace, Faye Butterworth and Belle Pressley.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Eliot W. Kuykendall; a daughter, Pamela K. Tamer and her husband, Joe, of Bat Cave; a granddaughter, Melissa Fish of Hendersonville; a grandson, Jeffrey Tamer of Holly Springs; three great-grandchildren, Amanda Tamer and Wesley Tamer of Holly Spring, and Abigail Fish of Hendersonville; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert J. McDermott Sr., 82
Robert J. McDermott Sr., 82, of Hendersonville died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, in Pardee Hospital.
He was a native of Jim Thorpe, Pa., and a resident of Henderson County since 1981. He was a son of the late John McDermott and Kathleen Conahan McDermott and the husband of Katherine R. McDermott, who died in 1997. He attended St. Francis College in Loretto, Pa., and was employed as a manager of Kmart for more than 30 years before retiring in 1982. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in the Battle of Normandy. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, where he was also a 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include a son, Robert J. McDermott Jr. of Wading River, N.Y.; a daughter, Cathy O'Neil of LaMirada, Calif.; a brother, Jack; six sisters, Rosemary, Kathleen, Josephine, Joan, Patricia and Eileen; and several nieces and nephews.

William Lee Ninness, 80, of Hendersonville died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, in Mission/St. Joseph's Hospital at Asheville.
He was a native of Pennsylvania and lived in Henderson County since 1982.
He was the beloved husband of Marjorie Reed Ninness; a loving father to a son, William Reed Ninness of Albany, N.Y., and two daughters, Gail L. Ninness of Fletcher and Laurie N. Keretz and her husband, John, of Fairview; and was also survived by a sister, Dorothy Rimmer of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Amoreena J. Wendell of Fairview; and several nieces and nephews.

Theodore R. Adkins, 89, of Fairview Drive, Lenior, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at Caldwell County Hospice.
He was born Sept. 20, 1911, in Wilkes County to the late Ralph B. and Vertie Minton Adkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Hoyle Adkins; four brothers, Boyd Adkins, Clyde Adkins, Drew Adkins and Selmer Adkins and three sisters, Pearl Blankenship, Beatrice Prestwood and Noll Eller.
He was retired from Singer Furniture Industries and was a member of Miller Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Royce Wayne Adkins of Lenoir; two daughters, Reba Atkins and her husband, Kenneth, of Roanoke, Va., and Susan Watts and her husband, Noel, of Hendersonville; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Kenneth A. Brown, 73, of Hendersonville died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at his residence.
A native of Toronto, Canada, he had lived in Berea, Ohio, before moving to Henderson County 10 years ago. He was the son of the late Alex and Minnie Wright Brown. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Adrian L. Brown of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and a step-granddaughter, Susan Taylor.
He earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Hiram College and served as a corporate pilot for 30 years with the Republic Steel Corporation. He served in both the Army and the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Quiet Birdman Flying Fraternity. He was a member of Hendersonville First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Ginny Brown; a daughter, Karen E. Brown of Berea, Ohio; a son, Kenneth A. Brown II of Centerville, Va.; two step-daughters, Cheryl Scrivers of Medina, Ohio, and Nancy Taylor of Monongahela, Pa.; and four step-granddaughters.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Hendersonville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wannamaker Hardin Jr. and the Rev. Donna Claycombe officiating. The burial will be held at a later date in Sunset Memorial Park in Olmstead Falls, Ohio. The family will receive friends in the church parlor immediately following the service.

Alan Olson, 75
Alan Olson, 75, of Hendersonville died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at the Life Care Center of Hendersonville.
He was born Sept. 9, 1925, in Red Wing, Minn., to Bernice and Elmer Olson. He attended Red Wing schools and graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Journalism. His lifelong dedication to music was proven by his job of organist in several churches and for the Masonic Order. He was a member of the order for 50 years, including the years in at his home in Katonah, N.Y., New York City and Hendersonville.
He became the area editor of the Winona Republican Herald and later moved to New York City to work for the Bill Brothers Publication Co., editing Fast Food magazine. He later was associated with Manning, Salvage & Lee, where he was vice president.
He was also an account executive with the German Wine Information Bureau. He supervised all food accounts at the agency. He was a founding member of IFAC and the Institutional Food Editors Council. He moved to Hendersonville in 1997.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Kuhn Olson; one son, Kenneth; one daughter, Nancy; and three grandchildren, Christine, Michelle and Donald, all of New York.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Etowah Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Noe officiating. For those who are unable to attend, a short Masonic service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the church.
