James "Jim" Robinson Hubbard, 91
CLINTON — Mr. James "Jim" Robinson Hubbard, 91, of 300 Blount St., died Saturday, April 21, 2001, in Sampson Regional Medical Center.
The funeral was held at 3 p.m. Monday in Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church with Dr. William L. Hawkins and the Rev. Leighton McKeithen officiating. Burial was in the Clinton Cemetery.
Mr. Hubbard was born in 1910 in Sampson County to the late Robert Howard and Lessie Robinson Hubbard. He was a member of Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church, having served as elder, deacon and treasurer. He attended Virginia Episcopal School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was the former president of the Clinton Chamber of Commerce and the Coharie Country Club. He also served on the board of directors of the United Carolina Bank. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Europe during World War II. He received the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Judge Howard Hubbard and Robert "Buddy" Hubbard; and his sister, Celeste Hubbard.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Temple Hubbard of the home.
The family will receive friends in the home.
Memorials may be made to Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church or to one's favorite charity.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Royal-Hall Funeral Home in Clinton.
Virginia King Hargrove, 88
CLINTON — Mrs. Virginia King Hargrove, 88, of 517 Stewart Ave., died Monday, June 18, 2001. in Sampson Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday (June 20) in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Aubrey Quakenbush officiating. Burial will be in the Plain View Church cemetery.
Mrs. Hargrove was born in 1912 to the late John Richard and Bettie Blount King in Sampson County. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Women's Missionary. She was a retired hairdresser. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph King.
She is survived by one sister, Marie K. Tyndall of Clinton; one stepson, Walter D. Hargrove of Clinton; and two step grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. tonight at Royal-Hall Funeral Home in Clinton and at other times in the home of Richard Tyndall at 516 Balsey St., Clinton.
Robert S. Hines, 86
CLINTON - Mr. Robert S. "Bob" Hines, 86, of 205 Stewart Ave. died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001 in Sampson Regional Medical Center.
A graveside service will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Hines Family Cemetery in Turkey with the Rev. Tony Moore officiating.
Born in 1915 in Sampson County, Mr. Hines was the son of the late James L. and Alice Sanders Hines. He attended First United Methodist Church. Mr. Hines was a retired radiator repairman and a retired jailer with the Sampson County Sheriff's Department. He was the widower of Ruth Creech Hines.
He is survived by a son, Bobby Hines of Wilson; one sister, Roberta Rush of Mary Ester, Fla.; one brother, James L. Hines Jr. of Turkey; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Royal-Hall Funeral Home.
James Milton Johnston, Jr., 77
Mr. James Milton Johnston, Jr. 77, of 106 Summit Ridge Road, Clinton, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Goldsboro.
A private graveside service will be held Tuesday (Dec. 26, 2000) at 10:30 a.m. in the Clinton Cemetery. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. William Hawkins officiating.
A native of Sampson County, Mr. Johnston was the son of the late James Milton and Eula Carroll Johnston and the widower of Emily Teague Johnston. He was a deacon at Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in World War II, where he received the Purple Heart. He attended North Carolina State University and was a retired agriculturist and tobacconist and a former employer with Lundy Packing Co.
Mr. Johnston is survived by two daughters, Katherine T. Johnston of Durham and Elizabeth Payne of Atlanta, Ga.; a son, Jim Johnston III of Clinton; and three grandchildren.

Eli Matthew King, 20
TURKEY — Mr. Eli Matthew "Matt" King, 20, of 5161 Dave Bright Road, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Royal-Hall Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tony Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Boyette-King family cemetery.
Mr. King was born in 1981 in Wayne County. He was a 1999 graduate of Hobbton High School and worked as an electrician with White Electric Company in Raleigh. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, David "Slick: Murphy; and paternal grandparents, Kermit and Melba King.
He is survived by his mother and father, Ronnie and Cathy King of Turkey; and his maternal grandmother, Jean Murphy of Magnolia.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home in Clinton and at other times in the home.
