Arthur Ray Hargis, age 78 of 406 Depot Street, died Sunday evening at Durham Regional Hospital. He was born in Person County, NC and was son of the late Arthur Nox Hargis & Lonie Pulliam Hargis and husband of the late Bertha Adcock Hargis. Mr. Hargis was aUS Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving are two sons Phillip Ray Hargis and Albert Lee Hargis both of Roxboro, one brother Albert Leonard Hargis of Roxboro and two grandchildren Brandon Hargis & Brandy Hargis.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Person Memorial Cemetery by the Rev. Buddy Hall. The family will receive friends at the home, 406 Depot Street, Roxboro, NC 27573
Julius Wesley "JW" Carver

Julius Wesley “JW” Carver, age 82, of 222 Thaxton Rd., died Thursday, April 9, 2009 at the Durham Regional Hospital. He was born in Person County and was the son of the late John Carver and Hallie Mae Carver . He was preceded in death by his brother and sisters, Percy Carver, Clarence Carver, Lewis Carver, Ernest Carver, Earlie Carver, Clara Lee and Nettie Matthews. He was retired from Eaton. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in WWII. He attended Theresa Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather, loved the Atlanta Braves baseball and fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Lila McKee Carver of the home; his daughter and her husband, Sandra Carver Gentry (Jackie) of Roxboro; grandchildren, Jeff Gentry and wife Debra, of Rougemont; Kelly Riggan and husband Daniel, of Creedmoor; great-grandchildren, Jackson Riggan and Addison Gentry, two brothers, Lester Carver, of Roxboro, John Carver, Jr., of Burlington.
Graveside services will be held 2 PM Monday, April 13, 2009 by the Rev. Herbert Brown. at the Person Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6:30-8:30PM Sunday, April 12, 2009 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Mary Frances Bowes Evans, age, 82 Died Wednesday, April 8, 2009 in the Person Memorial Hospital. She was a resident at the Roxboro Nursing Center for the past three years.
Surviving are husband, David Thomas Evans, of Roxboro; and her sister, Lucille Ross, of Roxboro, five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2PM Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Brooks & White Chapel. Burial will follow at the Clement Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Vernon Wilkerson, Chad Bullock, Louis Wrenn, John Earl Wrenn.
Visitation will be held 12:45-1:45PM on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Katherine Coleman Epps

Kathrine Coleman Epps, 86, of 535 High Plains Rd., died Monday, April 06, 2009, at the Roxboro Nursing Center. Born in Person County, Mrs. Epps was the daughter of the late James S. and Nettie Talley Coleman and wife of the late Wesley S. Epps. Mrs. Epps retired from the Person County School System. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Epps is survived by her children, Wilbert R. Epps, of Chesterfield, VA, Stanley L. Epps and Tommy A. Epps, both of Richmond, VA, Ronnie K. Epps, of Roxboro, Ethel E. Barker, of Richmond, VA and Fay E. Martin, of Roxboro; three brothers, James Coleman, of Hopewell, VA, Henry Coleman, of Springfield, PA and Phillip Coleman, of Charlotte; four sisters, Lois Stewart, of Richmond, VA, Nannie Martin and Nettie Talley, both of Roxboro and Anne Goins, of Glen Allen, VA; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Norman Talley and the Rev. Charles Martin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Tuesday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Ora Bailey Jones

Ora Bailey Jones, 100, formerly of Timberlake, NC and Crumpler, WV, died Saturday, April 04, 2009, at the home of her son in Orangeburg, SC. Born in McDowell County, WV, Mrs. Jones was the daughter of the late Wheeler and Allie Bailey and wife of the late Stuart A. Jones. She was also preceded in death by her son, Steward A. Jones, Jr. and granddaughter, Jennifer Kemp Merricks. Mrs. Jones was the last surviving member of 15 children. She was a homemaker and a member of Gateway Baptist Church. Mrs. Jones was a Godly example to all who where blessed to know and love her.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her children and their spouses, June Lindsey (Tom), and Betty Charles, all of Timberlake, Carrie Clayton Clark (Bill), of Pinehurst, Dora Kemp, of Idaho, Nellie Cox (Howard), of Greensboro, Lewis Jones (Carolyn), of Orangeburg, SC and Jim Jones (Brenda), of Durham and her daughter-in-law, Glois Jones of Durham; nineteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The home going service will be held 7PM Sunday at Gateway Baptist Church by the Rev. Jonathan Cox, Mrs. Jones’s grandson and the Rev. Ken Childers. The family will receive friends 5:30-6:45PM Sunday at Gateway Baptist Church prior to the service and at other times at the home of Betty Charles, 98 Gunston Lane, Timberlake. Graveside services will be held 1PM Monday at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons Bert Charles, Keith Charles, Dave Charles, Derwin Charles, Ed Clayton, Alan Clayton, Jimmy Jones and her grandsons-in-law, Alan Fanning, Juddie Davis and Phil Tyler.

George Willie McDowell

George Willie McDowell age 81 of 570 Younger Road died Monday morning, March 30, 2009 at Duke Medical Center. He was born in Fairplay, SC to the late Burel Hampton McDowell and Ola Heaton McDowell. Mr. McDowell was a Charter member of the Westwood Baptist Church where he was one of the first Deacons, a church trustee for 19 years, served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons, a Sunday School teacher, Choir Member, and Discipleship Director. Mr. McDowell was also a Mason, Past Master of the Lodge 113 AF & AM; District Deputy Grandmaster 33rd Masonic District as well as a District Deputy Grand Lecturer of the 33rd Masonic District. He retired after 44 years of service with Tar Heel Chevrolet Company.
Surviving are his wife, Ora McFarland McDowell of the home, three daughters and their spouses, Linda M. & Samuel Williams of Clover, VA; Barbara & Dan Miller Pleasant Sr. of Danville, VA, and Janet M. Lewis of Roxboro; five grandchildren and their spouses, Sue Ann & Brent Pentecost of Holly Springs, NC, Beth & Dan Miller Pleasant Jr. of Raleigh, NC, Heather & Matthew Wrenn of Raleigh, NC, Anna & Andrew Grossnickle of Fredericksburg VA; and Crystal Glyn Lewis of Greenville, NC; four great grandchildren, Jacob Pentecost, James Pentecost, Dan Miller Pleasant, III, and Emily Logan Wrenn.
The family will receive friends 7PM to 8:30 PM Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Brooks & White Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at the Westwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Gerald Hodges officiating. Burial will be in the Person Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brent Pentecost, Dan Miller Pleasant, Jr., Matthew Wrenn, Andrew Grossnickle, Gerald Bowes, Donald Bowes, Dan Miller Pleasant, Sr., and Samuel Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be member of the Berry-Powers Sunday School Class, former members of the Westwood Trustees, and Deacons.
