Annie Lurea Clayton Oakley, 85, of 407 Stanley Oakley Road died Sunday, March 6, 2016. She was born in Person County to the late Silas and Lila Allen Clayton. Mrs. Oakley was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Berle Oakley and two brothers, Milton Clayton and Hosea Lee Clayton. She was a librarian at Helena Elementary where she loved her job and the kids. Mrs. Oakley enjoyed seeing the children she impacted and loved hearing updates on their lives. In addition to raising her four boys, she worked diligently on the family farm. She was of the Primitive Baptist Faith.
Surviving are four sons, Berl Ray Oakley and wife Elizabeth, of Lawrence, KS, Tony Daniel Oakley and wife Eleanor, of Raleigh, Leslie Allen Oakley and wife Monica, of Apex, and Kevin Douglas Oakley, of Morrisville; one granddaughter, Olivia Oakley; and one sister, Kathryn Fogleman, of Butner.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Brooks and White Chapel by Rev. Brian Hager. Burial will follow in the Oakley Family Cemetery on Stanley Oakley Road, Timberlake. Visitation will be held 6:30-8:00 PM Tuesday, March 8, 2015 at Brooks and White Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be Trent Clayton, Frank Davis, Casey Davis, Farris Duncan, Brandon Solomon, and Nicholas Solomon. Honorary pallbearers will be Grady Oakley and Barry Welch.

Jonathan Brice Russell

Jonathan Brice Russell, 22, of 52 Odessa Court died Friday, February 26, 2016. He was born in Durham County to Dannie and Cindy Griffin Russell, who survive. Brice was very unique and known as wanting to "Just be me." He was an organ donor so he could help others in need, as he was always thinking about others before himself. Brice was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his parents, are his grandparents, Harry and Joanne Russell and Bailey and Ruth Griffin, all of Roxboro; one brother, Lance Russell; one sister, Danielle Russell, both of the home; aunts, Joan Day and Uncle Al and Betty Morris and Uncle Moose; one uncle, Corey Russell; and many loving great uncles, great aunts, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held 5:00 PM Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Antioch Baptist Church by Dr. M. David Chambers. Visitation will be held 5:30-8:30 PM Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Antioch Baptist Church and other times at the home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Morris, Corey Russell, Mason Smith-Ivey, Dakota Pierce, Kyle Wrenn, Dustin Matherly, Justin Barker, Tyler Lowery, Phillip Broach, and Zack Benjamin.

William Lee "Billy" Suggs

William Lee "Billy" Suggs, 86, of 1523 Mill Hill Rd., Roxboro, died Wednesday, February 24, 2016. Born in Durham County, Mr. Suggs was the son of the late Russell Aubrey and Inez Jones Suggs. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Ann (Bobby) Moorehead of Durham and Helen Crawford of Lexington, Kentucky. Mr. Suggs was a jazz musician and a member of Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church.
Mr. Suggs is survived by two sons, Miles Stanley Suggs and wife, Melody of Wilmington and Richard Aubrey Suggs and wife, Teresa of Garner; three grandchildren, Matthew Suggs, Kristen Suggs and Kristopher Suggs.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Gerald Thomas. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Eggleston, Chris Dixon, Chuck Burch, Charles Dickerson, Nick Winstead, and Bobby Oakley.

Edwin Coley "E.C." Walters

Edwin Coley "E.C." Walters, 78, of 249 Barnette-Tingen Road died Thursday, February 25, 2016. He was born in Person County to the late William Thomas Walters and Eva Oakley Walters. Mr. Walters retired from Centel Phone Company after 32 years of service. He was an avid hunter and a member of Woodsdale Hunting Club. E.C. was of the Baptist faith and loved his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Day Walters; three brothers, W.T. Walters, Rives Walters, and Ray Walters; and three sisters, Nerene Puryear, Jemima Bristow, and Eva Dell Puryear.
Surviving are three children, Robert Allen Walters of Roxboro, Edwin Todd Walters and wife, DeeDee of Blairs, VA, and Tammy Rae Walters of Roxboro; four grandchildren, Libby McDonald and husband, Andrew, Sammantha Walters, Crissy Byrd, and Brandon Walters; four great-grandchildren, Kadance Lawson, Cole McDonald, Chayton McDonald, and Kayden Walters; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, February 28, 2016 at North Roxboro Baptist Church by Rev. Andrew McDonald, Rev. Herbert Brown, and Rev. Ben Durand. Burial will follow at Person Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:30-8:00 P.M. Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Brooks and White Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be John Puryear, Willard Puryear, Gray Puryear, Bruce Walters, Kenny Walters, Kevin Moorman. Honorary pallbearers will be active and retired employees of Centel.

Mary Edna Davis Ellis, 81, of Allens Chapel Church Road, passed away Monday, February 15, 2016. She was born in Person County to the late Walter Lee Davis and Annie Mooney Davis. Mrs. Ellis is preceded in death by her brother, William Merritt "Bill" Davis, and sister, Joyce Davis Bowes.
Mrs. Ellis is survived by her four children: Kevin Ellis and wife, Robin, of Roxboro, Kent Ellis, of Roxboro, Brent Ellis and wife, Rachel, of Pelham, and Arista Ellis, of Roxboro; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Pastor David Fox. The family will receive friends at Kevin & Robin Ellis's home (659 Stories Creek Road).
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Janice Dianne Howerton Kirby

Janice Dianne Howerton Kirby, 67, of 1105 Highland Trail, Cary, died Saturday, March 19, 2016. Born in Person County, Mrs. Kirby was the daughter of the late John Owen and Margaret Lois Murphy Howerton and wife of the late Ralph Clayton Kirby. Mrs. Kirby was a clerk for the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Mrs. Kirby is survived by her daughter, Deanne Betts, of Tucson, AZ; three sisters, Rita Crews, of Jacksonville, FL, Kathy Reaves, of Timberlake and Teresa Everett, of Roxboro; three grandchildren, Deanna Piedrahita, Marianna Piedrahita and Andrea Piedrahita all of Tucson, AZ.
Graveside services will be held 2 PM Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Lea Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Calvin Sacra. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
