Timberlake Edgar Melvin "Eddie" Chambers age 56 of Chambers Loop Road died Thursday morning, July 16, 2015 at his home. He was born in Person County to the Rev. Herman Chambers and the late Frances Chisholm Chambers. Eddie was a member of Red Mt. Baptist Church. He was an Army Veteran. Eddie worked in construction working with heavy equipment. He enjoyed cooking and working in his garden.
Survivors in addition to his father are three children, Brandon Chambers of Timberlake, Kristin Chambers, of Raleigh, and Lexie Chambers of Timberlake; one brother, Boyd Lane Chambers (Peggy) and one sister, Cindy C. Ellis (Mark) both of Timberlake. Nephews, Justin Chambers, Travis Chambers, Lance Ellis & Cody Ellis.
The family will receive friends 12 noon Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his father, Rev. Herman Chambers, 1056 Chambers Loop Road, Timberlake, NC 27583
The funeral service will be 1 PM Saturday after the visitation also at Brooks & White.
Nellie Jane Porterfield Carver

Nellie Jane Porterfield Carver, 100, of 117 Allgood St., Roxboro, died Thursday, July 9, 2015. Born in Orange County, Mrs. Carver was the daughter of the late Eddie Robert and Maidie Clayton Porterfield and wife of the late James Floyd Carver. Mrs. Carver loved being a seamstress and up until the age of 95 worked over forty hours a week doing alterations. She was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church.
Mrs. Carver is survived by her children James (Jim) Carver (Bonnie Rhodes) and Ann Carver Huff (Joey); four grandchildren, Rob Carver, Christie Carver Rochefort (Steve), Joseph Huff (Alicia) and Catherine Carver Huff; eight great-grandchildren, Zach Carver, Georgia Carver, Brandon Evans, Zoey Rochefort, Baylor Rochefort, Ashlyn Huff, Hayden Huff and Hudson Carver Horton; and a special loving niece, Shelby Jean.
Graveside services will be held 2 PM Sunday, July 12, 2015, at Person Memorial Cemetery by the Rev. Barry Chambers.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons Rob Carver, Joseph Huff, Zach Carver, Brandon Evans, Hayden Huff, and Hudson Carver Horton.

Diane Elizabeth Beaver Ellis

Diane Beaver Ellis, 58 of 316 Pine Street, died peacefully Saturday morning, August 29, 2015 at her home. Born in Person County to the late Johnnie Wilmer Beaver & Elizabeth Riley Beaver who survives of Roxboro. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her brother Johnnie Beaver, Jr. Mrs. Ellis was retired from Collins & Aikman. She was a member of Montwood Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her mother is her husband of over forty years Kent Ellis of the home; her son Nathan Ellis & wife Shana of Concord; her daughter Beth Ellis of Roxboro; two brothers Andy Beaver & wife Sharon of Roxboro, Paul Beaver & wife Donna of Roxboro; two sisters Sharon Zickafoose & husband Ronnie of Roxboro, Paulette Kerley & husband Clyde of Roxboro; and her two granddaughters Haylee Ellis & Isabella Ellis.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Montwood Baptist Church and other times at the home.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, August 31, 2015 at Montwood Baptist Church by the Rev. Carroll Bracket.

Pedro Santana Velez Sr.

Pedro Santana Velez, Sr., age 91, of 2895 Lawson Chapel Church Road, died Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at the Hock Home Care and Hospice Pavilion in Durham, NC.
Mr. Velez was born in San Germán, Puerto Rico on November 6, 1923, to the late Nicomedes Santana and Pedro Medina Velez.
In 1949 he married Mary Owen Bumpass and they remained married until her untimely death in 2006.
After his retirement from National Can Corporation in the mid 1970's the couple relocated to Roxboro, NC. Mr. Velez devoted his time to family, friends, and one of his favorite past times, fishing. He would become a member of Sts. Mary and Edward Catholic Church and remained a member until his death.
Surviving are his two sons: Pedro Velez, Jr. and Louis A. Velez (Rosa); one sister, Andrea Colon; sister-in-law, Ester Lyons; brother-in-laws, Frank Bumpass (Shirley) and George Bumpass (Gertrude); three grandchildren, Tynecca Velez, Toyia Velez, and Kiona Velez; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass for Mr. Velez will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, August 8, 2015 by Father William Rodriguez officiating at Saints Mary and Edward Catholic Church, 611 North Main Street, Roxboro, NC 27573. Visitation will be held at 1:00 PM.

Betty Scarce Fox

Died: 07/24/2015 and resided in Rome, GA
Betty Scarce Fox, 82, of Rome, GA, died Friday, July 24, 2015 at Mt. Berry Hospice. Born in Danville, VA, she was the daughter of the late Oscar N. and Gladys Bradley Scarce. She graduated from George Washington High School in Danville, VA in 1951. Before marriage, she was active with the YWCA and the Business Women’s Club in Danville, and worked as a Health Dept. secretary. After marriage, she was a beloved mother, homemaker, membership associate at Sam’s Club of Hickory, NC, and she helped with special needs children in elementary schools throughout her life. As a devoted Baptist attending First Baptist of Rome, GA and Hickory, NC, and Chestnut Hill Baptist of Lynchburg, VA among others, she taught children in bible study, and served on various committees over many years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, L. Howard Fox, Sr. of Rome, GA, and lived in Roxboro, NC, Lynchburg, VA, Hickory, NC and Rome, GA. She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sister, Barbara Humphries, all from Danville, VA. She is survived by son Lewis Howard Fox, Jr. of Rome, GA, daughter Julie Fox Rutherford and husband James of Alpharetta, GA, son Vincent Bradley Fox and wife Valeria La Saponara of Davis, CA, grandchildren Christine Fox Morris of Kennesaw, GA, Eleanor Mae Borromeo of Adairsville, GA, Zev and Zari Fox of Davis, CA, and great-grandchildren Lily and Riley Borromeo. Betty is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Elliott and husband Richard of Danville, VA, and Pat Swicegood of Rock Hill, SC.
The family will be receiving at Antioch Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 677 Antioch Church Rd, Timberlake, NC from 1 to 2 PM on Saturday, August 1, 2015, followed by a Celebration of Life Memorial Service in the sanctuary at 2 PM with Dr. David Chambers and Fox family members Reverends Carol Fox and George Fox officiating. Brooks and White Funeral Home of Roxboro, NC will be assisting with the arrangements and online condolences can be made at their website.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Winthrop West Senior Memory Care and Mt. Berry Hospice, both of Rome, GA, and Amedisys Hospice of Cartersville, GA for their kind and loving care of Betty in her last years of life.
John Wayne "Baby" Carden

John Wayne "Baby" Carden, age 80, of 541 Deer Creek Lane, died Friday, July 17, 2015 at the Hock Family Pavilion. Born in Orange County to the late Wayne Robert Carden and Pearlie Noble Carden. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Dawn Carden; four brothers: Rev. Robert Carden, Mack Carden, Rufus Carden, and Norman Carden; two sisters: Gladys Gaydou and Dorothy Gaydou. Mr. Carden was a painter for almost forty years for Claude May Company and worked at Jimmy Pearson's store for over forty years. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Mr. Carden is survived by his wife, of over fifty-two years, Linda "Tootsie" Stone Carden, of the home and one granddaughter, Haleigh D'Adamo, of Timberlake.
A special thanks to Dr. Joseph Govert and Chris Willis and Duke Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, as well as, Duke Hospice at Hock Family Pavilion.
Honoring Mr. Carden's wishes there will be no service. The family will receive friends anytime at the home.
