Bernard Merritt Fogleman

Bernard Merritt Fogleman, 75, of 427 Reade Dr., Roxboro, died Friday, July 24, 2015. Born in Person County, Mr. Fogleman was the son of the late Henry Chalmers and Nannie Lunsford Fogleman. He served in the US Army from 1962-1964 and was a member of New Brook United Methodist Church. He worked for Central Telephone Company for 18 years and later was the owner of the Boulevard Kwik Pik, the Silver Saddle and Fogie's.
Mr. Fogleman is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean Allen Fogleman; three children, Gregory Allen Fogleman and wife Amy, of Durham, Pamela Fogleman Bradsher and husband Wallace, of Roxboro and Mitchell Blake Fogleman, of Timberlake; four brothers, James Fogleman, of Roxboro, Lawrence Fogleman, of Durham, Claude Fogleman, of Butner and Milton Fogleman, of Rougemont; three sisters, Shirley F. Huff, of Oxford, Betty Jean Mangum and Berniece Fox, both of Rougemont; ten grandchildren, Kiersten Fogleman, Garrett Fogleman, Caroline Fogleman, Zach Carver, Georgia Carver, Merritt Bradsher, Jessica Bradsher, Alex Hubbard, Nick Bradsher and Blair Bradsher.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, July 26, 2015, at New Brook United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tyler Daniels. Burial will follow in Person Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-5:30 PM, Saturday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Walker, Billy Kelley, Charlie Lunsford, David Bailiff, Bradsher Regan, and Ricky Gammon.

Maynard Flint Whitfield

Died: 06/26/2015 and resided in Roxboro, NC
Maynard Flint Whitfield, age 86, died Friday, June 26, 2015. Born in Person County, to the late Luther Whitfield and Susie Whitfield. Mr. Whitfield is preceded in death by one sister, Emma Lou Lemaire. He attended McGhee's Mill Baptist Church.
Surviving is his daughter, Edith W. Stewart, of Bahama; one brother, Ross Whitfield, of Garner; two sisters: Peggy W. Chappell, of California, and Patsy W. Wilson, of Hurdle Mills; two grandchildren: Dr. Virginia Stewart and Suzanne S. Gibbons; four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Brooks & White Chapel.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Brooks & White Chapel. Burial will follow at Flat River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Emmett Brent Hill

Died: 06/17/2015 and resided in Rougemont, NC
Emmett Brent Hill, 58, of 1051 Harris Mill Road died Wednesday, June 17, 2015. He was born February 25, 1957 to the late Wallace and Lorean Lunsford Hill.
Surviving is one son, Caleb H. Hill; sister, Vickie Kirk (Buck), brother, Don Hill (Zandra), brother, Terry Hill (Joy), sister, Cathy and (Steve) Ingle; two special daughters, Amber and Breanna; two stepdaughters, Ashley and Tara Owen; two special grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Brent is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends--all of whom he would often speak fondly. He was generous to a fault which he never regretted. He enjoyed watching the UNC Tarheels and of course a NASCAR fan. Additionally, he enjoyed watching westerns.
He worked his early years with Nortel and also worked in tree trimming for a number of years. Disabled from a battle with cancer, he dealt with many issues but succumbed to injuries received from an automobile accident. He was of the Baptist faith and loved God.
At Brent's request, no services are planned.
Mrs. Aurora Arroyo White
Born: 06/07/1928 Guatemala City, Guatemala
Died: 06/06/2015 and resided in Danville, Virginia
Aurora Arroyo White, last member of her generation died Saturday morning, June 6, 2015 in Danville. She was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala to the late Jose Arroyo and Dolores Galindo Arroyo. Aurora was a graduate of the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing located in Guatemala City with an RN degree. Previously she was employed by Danville Memorial Hospital. Aurora was a member of the United Baptist Church in Danville.
Surviving are her husband, Kermit F. White of the home, her daughter, Renee White Thornhill and husband Tim of Roanoke, her son, Rodney F. White and wife Laura of Virginia Beach, four grandchildren, Shannon Firebaugh and husband, Lance of Fredericksburg, Eric Thornhill of Radford, Vivian White and Cecilia White both of Virginia Beach; her sister-in-law, Grace White of Roxboro, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 6 PM to 7:30 PM Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Brooks and White Funeral Home, Roxboro, NC 27573. The funeral service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at the Brooks & White Chapel also in Roxboro with the Dr. Adam Woods officiating. Burial will be in the Burchwood Cemetery, Roxboro, NC 27573.

James Samuel Merritt Jr.

James Samuel Merritt, Jr., 79, of 171 Banbury Dr., Roxboro, died Saturday, May 30, 2015. Born in Durham County, Mr. Merritt was the son of the late James Samuel and Cora Wilson Garland Merritt. Mr. Merritt retired from the insurance industry and previously attended Long Memorial United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his daughter.
Mr. Merritt is survived by his wife, Elvira Garcia Merritt; his son, Brian Merritt, of California.
A private burial will be held at Burchwood Cemetery.

Willie Wilson Long

Willie Wilson Long, 102, of 7133 Oxford Rd., died Friday, May 15, 2015. Born in Halifax County, VA, Mrs. Long was the daughter of the late Silas Newman and Myrtle Nelson Wilson and wife of the late George Yearby Long. Mrs. Long was a homemaker and a member of Union Christian Church.
Mrs. Long is survived by three sons, George Edward "Bill" Long, of Timberlake, Willie Ester "Sweet Pea" Long and Yearby "Red" Long, Jr., both of Roxboro; one daughter, Clara L. Taylor, of Roxboro; three sisters, Janie W. Reaves, of South Boston, VA, Alena W. Elliott, of Cluster Springs, VA and Ednez W. Wilson, of Blackstone, VA; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, May 17, 2015, at Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Barry Chambers. Burial will follow in the Virgilina Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1-2 PM Sunday at the Brooks & White Chapel prior to the service and at other times at the home of Clara L. Taylor, 8755 Virgilina Rd., Roxboro.
Pallbearers will be Lee Smith, Warren Taylor, Dustin Anders, George Ray Long, Marvin Wilson, and Nathan Finch.
