Patricia Laskowsky Herrick age 70 of 1510 Pine Ridge Court died Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at the Hock Family Pavilion in Durham. Mrs. Herrick was born in Wayne County, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one grandson, Sean Bowes. Mrs Herrick was retired from Optical Center Lab in MI.
She attended Theresa Baptist Church.
Survivors include her three children, Theresa H. Bowes, husband Gary of Semora, Kelly H. Bowling, husband, John " J.W." of Roxboro, John D. Herrick, II, wife Kristin of Troy, MI; 8 grandchildren: Heather Bowes, Darrell Bowes, Tiffany Bowling, Cody Bowling, John "Bocephus" Bowling, Austin Bowes, Brandon Herrick, and Christopher Herrick; 2 Great Grandchildren, and 2 brothers.
A memorial service will be held 7 PM Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Theresa Baptist Church with the Rev. Herbert Brown officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Troy Lee Snead

Troy Lee Snead, 75, of 690 Thaxton Rd., Roxboro, died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at his residence. Born in Nottoway County, VA, Mr. Snead was the son of the late Bernard Thomas and Doris Virginia Garner Snead and father of the late Ronnie Dean Snead. Mr. Snead worked for Pike Electric and later retired from Richard and Waylon.
Mr. Snead is survived by his wife, Flora Jean Wagner Snead; four children, Troy Lynn Snead, of Roxboro, Gloria Pierce Sprinkles, of Raleigh, Maria Powell and Brenda Lee Hillard, both of Roxboro; two brothers, Louis Ray Snead, of Danville, VA and Donald Wayne Snead, of Jacksonville, FL; one sister, Vickie Ann Slate, of Danville, VA; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Curtis Wesley. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery, Roxboro. Visitation will be held 7-8:30 PM, Friday, at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Justin Snead, Tommy Thaxton, Ronald Powell, Glenn Shelton, Louis Snead, Shannon Slate, and Jason Brady.

Charles Franklin Watson

Charles Franklin Watson, Sr., 84 of 130 McGhees Mill Rd., died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at his residence. Born in Caswell County, Mr. Watson was the son of the late Willie P. and Omie Mitchell Watson. He was member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. He was retired from Central Telephone Company. He was known among his friends as the Great Milker, the Great C F, The Mighty One, and The Golf Man. He was four time champion at Roxboro Country Club. He was asked to play professional golf.
Mr. Watson is survived by his wife, Charlotte Robinson Watson; two sons, Charles Franklin Watson, Jr., and wife Kayre of Yanceyville and James Kent Watson and wife Jean, of Roxboro; two daughters, Wanda Watson, of Roxboro and Ginger Williams, and husband Bruce of Oxford; four grandchildren, Sarah Koterba, of Roxboro, Brian Tuck, of Roxboro, Kyle Watson and Chris Watson, both of Yanceyville and two great-grandchildren, Calleigh Koterba and David Tuck. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Davd Lee Tuck.
Funeral services will be held 12 PM Friday at the Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial will follow in Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held 11-12 PM Friday prior to the service at the Brooks & White Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Don Clayton, Charles Hicks, Kyle Watson, Chris Watson, Clifton lee, Anthony Lee, Brian Tuck and Mel Dorey.

Franklin M. "Frank" Wrenn

Franklin M. "Frank" Wrenn, 77, of Roxboro, died Saturday, December 29, 2012. Born in Person County, Mr. Wrenn was the son of the late Marvin F. "Doc" and Pearl Moore Wrenn. Mr. Wrenn was a member of the Helena High School Class of 1954 and attended East Carolina University. Mr. Wrenn worked for Liggett & Myers and as the bookkeeper of B & R Garage of Durham. He was a loyal member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church for over 65 years. Frank had a wonderful love for music which resulted in being choir director for many years at Mt. Zion. He was also an avid Southern Gospel music fan which resulted in many precious friends from both the artists of Southern Gospel Music and other fans that attended.
Mr. Wrenn is survived by his wife of 49 years, Eleanor Mitchell Wrenn; one brother, Jerry Wayne Wrenn, of Milton; four sisters, Evelyn Solomon, Lynda Allen, Vickie Summerfield and Alice Whitfield, all of Roxboro and a special son, Jim Mitchell of LaGrange. He was preceded in death by his brothers, James "Snooks" Wrenn, Bernice Wrenn and Bobby Fields Wrenn.
Funeral services will be held 11AM, Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Chuch by the Rev. Donald Daniel, Rev. Danny Allen, and Mr. Alex Fogleman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:30 PM to 8 PM, Tuesday at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Chuch and at other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Mitchell, Nick Jenkins, Donnie Murray, Brian Murray, Chad Wrenn, and Bill Mathews.

Bular Benton Gentry Melton, 93, of 421 Hal Melton Rd., Roxboro, died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at her home, where she was born and raised. Born in Person County, Mrs. Melton was the daughter of the late David T. and Dora Tuck Gentry and wife of the late Hal Melton. Mrs. Melton was a homemaker and a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher. She loved to crochet and was a friend to all. Her door was always open; to know her was to love her.
Mrs. Melton is survived by her children, Dorene Robertson and Jerry Wayne Melton and wife Marie, both of Roxboro, Janice Ann Whitfield, and husband Otis of Hurdle Mills, Katie Lee Rogers, and husband James and Jimmy Ray Melton and wife Janet, all of Roxboro; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Olive Branch Baptist Church by Dr. Victor Blackwell and Mrs. Joyce Smith. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:30-8:30 PM, Tuesday at Olive Branch Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Rickey Davis, Mark Robertson, David Hurdle, Kelly Bomar, Ron Chavis, and Waverly Wilkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Nicholas Davis, Will Davis, Matthew Davis, Jeremy Tuck, Kellie Fuller, Susan Chavis, Joshua Hurdle and Ray Melton.

Ethel Ashby Gentry

Ethel Ashby Gentry, 101, of formerly of 704 Younger Rd., Roxboro, died December 29 at Hospice of Rutherford County in Forest City, NC. Born in Person County, Mrs. Gentry was the daughter of the late Majors S. and Eunice Clayton Ashby and wife of the late Melvin H. Gentry. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Gail G. Green, and her son, Michael D. Gentry. Mrs. Gentry retired after 45 years with Collins & Aikman and was a member of Ca-Vel United Methodist Church. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends in Roxboro.
Mrs. Gentry is survived by her son, James Earl Gentry, of Rutherfordton; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 2:30 PM, Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Ross Thompson A private burial was held at Person Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1-2:15 PM, Thursday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home prior to the service.
