Henry Hulon Welch, age 89 of 1410 Jim Latta Road, died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Person Memorial Hospital. He was born in Person County and was the son of the late Henry Thomas and Emma Denny Welch. He was preceded in death by his son Henry Hulon (Hank) Welch, Jr., two brothers, Ernest Morris Welch and Ira James Welch, seven sisters, Elsie Rivers Welch, Lora Welch Oakley, Christine Welch Oakley, Bettie Welch Whitlow, Evie Welch Russell, Lillian Welch Ashby, and Mildred Welch Brooks. He graduated in 1938 from Helena High School and a 1940 graduate from Mars Hill College. He was a Captain with the US Army Air Corp during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Gideons International. He was a member of the NC Farm Bureau. He was an active member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church for 74 years where he was a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, and trustee.
Surviving are his wife, Nina Cook Welch, of the home; one daughter Barbara Welch Gentry, of Roxboro; daughter-in-law, Ellen D’ette Welch, of Nashville, NC; three grandchildren and their spouses, Jared A. Welch and Leah, Jeremy T. Welch and Lisa, Bradsher H. Gentry, and two great-grandchildren, Gabriel H. Welch, and Hannah J. Welch.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church by the Rev. Barry Chambers and the Rev. Francis Smith. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Brooks, Cecil Oakley, Alvis Oakley, Wayne Latta, James Fogleman, Jimmy Thomas, and Timmy Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the John Jones Sunday School Class, Russell Welch, and John Henry Garrett.
The family will receive friends 6-8:30 PM Monday at Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home, 1410 Jim Latta Road, Rougemont.

Lester Wayne Tate

Lester Wayne Tate, age 65, of 1316 Pointer Street, died Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Durham Regional Hospital. He was born in Person County and was the son of the late Claude Tate, Sr. and Edna Treadway Tate. He was a carpenter.
Surviving are his children and their spouses, Deborah Coley (Sherwood), Tony Tate (Betty), and Barry Tate, all of Roxboro; four brothers and their spouses, Lacie Tate (Faye) Claude Tate Jr., (Patsy) Everette Tate (Patricia) of Roxboro; Lowell Tate, of Roanoke, VA.; four sisters, and spouses, Thelma Nelson, Dorothy McCann, of Roxboro; Julia Knott (Bobby) of Roanoke, VA; Mamie Brown (Kim) of Oak Island; four grandchildren, Justin Keatts, Andrew Keatts, Blake Tate, and Bradley Coley.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Monday by Pastor Mike Whitt at the Brooks & White Chapel. Burial will follow in the Burchwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Rose, Harold Whitfield, Barry West, Chris Dickerson, David West, and Darrell Clayton. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandsons: Bradley Coley, Justin Keatts, and Blake Tate.
The visitation will be held 6:30-8:00 PM Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Ralph Ray Hicks

Ralph Ray Hicks, age, 71, of 152 Country Club Road, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at his home. He was born in Person County and was the son of the late Floyd Washington Hicks, Sr., and Selena Duncan Hicks. He was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Bertha & George Duncan, Henry & Daisy Hicks, one brother, Floyd W. Hicks, and one sister, Relia H. Rimmer. He was retired after 40 years from Weeks Construction as an electrical lineman. He was a member of Theresa Baptist Church.
Surviving are his long-time companion, Wilma Bowling, two daughters and their spouses, Barbara H. Wallace and Randy, of Henderson; Linda H. Long and Vance, of Roxboro; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one step-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Theresa Baptist Church by the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial will follow in the Theresa Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dusty Long, Trey Long, Sammy Whitt, David Lankford, Dale Wallace, and Chris Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Jordan, Wardell Jordan, Johnny Blanks, and Raymond Pruitt
Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 8:30 PM on Friday, March 13 at the Theresa Baptist Church and other times at the home.

Mary Anne Humphries Mundy

Mary Anne Humphries Mundy, age 76, of 213 Gregory Street, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Duke University Medical Center. She was born in Person County and was the daughter of the late James Albert Humphries and Annie Gregory Humphries. She was widow of the late Talmadge Mundy. She was preceded in death by her son, Lynn Mundy. She was retired as quality control manager from Carolina Parachute Co. She was a very active member of Brooksdale United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Marsha Anne Mundy Long, of Roxboro; one brother, James Albert Humphries, Jr., of Durham; one daughter-in-law, Robin Mundy, of Timberlake; two granddaughters, Jessica Anne Long, Stephanie Anne Mundy, and one niece, Tillie Laws.
Funeral services will be 11AM Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Brooksdale United Methodist Church by the Rev. Brent Livingood. Burial will follow in the Burchwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dustin Brann, Dave Lerchbacher, Terry Bolton, Mike Rogers, Calvin Whitfield, and Jim Averette.

Benjamin Franklin Allen, Sr.
US Army Ret. Sergeant Major

Benjamin Franklin Allen, Sr., 76, of 165 Munday Oakley Rd., died Sunday, March 8, 2009, at Person Memorial Hospital. Born in Richmond, VA, Mr. Allen was the son of the late Robert and Lucy Allen. Mr. Allen retired from the US Army as a Sergeant Major and served in the NC National Guard. In addition to his parents, Mr. Allen was preceded in death by two sons, Steven Allen and Benjamin Franklin Allen, Jr.
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Elva Jean Boger Allen; one son, Robert Allen and wife Rhonda, of Timberlake; one grandson, Jeremy Allen and fiancé’ Kristin Hall.

Patricia Davis Turlington

Patricia Davis Turlington, 77, of 320 Clayton Ave., died Saturday, March 07, 2009, at Duke University Medical Center. Born in Sampson County, Mrs. Turlington was the daughter of the late Frank and Kate Turlington. Mrs. Turlington was a retired teacher having taught at Person High School and Northern Middle School. She was a co-founder of the Person County Art Guild. Mrs. Turlington recently illustrated a Christian children’s book “Lamb Talk”.
Mrs. Turlington is survived by her son, Kyle Gilliland, of Willow Springs; one brother, Winford Turlington, of Lexington, and one sister, Louise Koonce, of Laurinburg; one grandchild, Ryan Gilliland.
Graveside services will be held 3 PM Tuesday at the City of Clinton Cemetery by the Pastor Randy Stoner. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 PM Monday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home, 907 Durham Rd., Roxboro, NC.
