Barbara Jewel Clark Spencer 65 of 210 Holloway Road, died Thursday August 2, 2012. Born in Person County she was the daughter of the late Willie Henry Clark & Ruth Mabel Chisenhall Clark. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Paul Spencer, one brother Fred Clark & one sister Ramona Gentry. Mrs. Spencer was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are four children Lisa Sanford of Ga., Susan Wilkinson of Fl., Leon Blalock of Roxboro & Sara Blalock of Ga., four brothers Tucker Clark of Roxboro, Bill Clark of SC., Oscar Clark & Danny Clark both of Roxboro, two sisters Frances Oliver of NC & Faye Guin of MS., seven grandchildren & three great-grandchildren also survive.
Memorial Services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday August 5, 2012 at Mill Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Dion Loving.

Lawrence Obrien Riley Jr.

Died: 08/01/2012 and resided in Roxboro,
Lawrence Obrien Riley, Jr., age 67, of 50 Nandina Dr., died Wednesday, August 1, 2012. Born in Alamance County he was the son of the late Lawrence Obrien Riley, Sr. and Ethel Porterfield Meadows. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Nancy Riley Taylor. Mr. Riley was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He had worked as a supervisor in the construction industry. Mr. Riley was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include three sisters, Jackie Westbrooks and husband Alvin of Roxboro, Vickie Holt of Timberlake, Becky Irby of Timberlake; one niece, Crystal Irby of Timberlake; three step-brothers, Clayton Meadows, Wesley Meadows, and Tresley Meadows all of Roxboro; close friend, Richard Harris of Roxboro.
A graveside memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, August 5, 2012 at Berry's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Herman Chambers. The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the home of Jackie and Alvin Westbrooks, 71 Dee Long Rd., Roxboro.

India Russell Brooks

India Russell Brooks, 72, of 150 Westover Dr., Roxboro, died Sunday, July 29, 2012. Born in Person County, Mrs. Brooks was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Beth Mitchell Russell. Mrs. Brooks was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an active member of Bethel Hill Baptist Church where she previously taught Sunday School, and was a member of the Adult Ladies Sunday School class. She was also a member of the church JOY Club.
A worshipful memorial service will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, at Bethel Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Jason Evans. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
Mrs. Brooks is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Robert J. Brooks, Jr.; her children, Robbie Brooks and Timmie Brooks and wife Lisa, all of Roxboro and Tabitha Brooks, of Dallas, TX; two brothers, Mitchell Russell and wife Ann of Knightdale and Johnnie Russell and wife Joanna, of Durham; three grandchildren, Travis Brooks and wife Ryan, Hunter Brooks and Jarrett Brooks.

Luther Sanders "Mr. Mac" McWhorter

Luther Sanders McWhorter, age 94, of Roxboro, passed Saturday, July 28, 2012. Sanders (“Mr. Mac”) was born in Greene County, Georgia. He was the son of the late John Alexander McWhorter and Annie Mae Sanders McWhorter. He was preceded in death by his son David G. McWhorter, his brother John A. McWhorter, Jr., and sisters Winifred Nunn and Annie Mae Palmer, all formally of Roxboro. Mr. McWhorter had a lifelong career as an owner-operator of several lumber manufacturing firms, as well as other businesses. He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Susan Bow McWhorter, daughter Helen L. McWhorter, and sons Val S. McWhorter and John A. McWhorter III, grandchildren David A. McWhorter, Elizabeth M. Monsour, Lukas S. McWhorter and John A. McWhorter IV and five great grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, August 1 at the Brooks and White Funeral Home in Roxboro from 4:30-7pm with a memorial service following immediately at 7:15pm. Grayce O’Neill Rowe, former Vicar at St. Mark’s Episcopal, Church will conduct the memorial service.
A final service is planed at St. Mark’s Episcopal; date to be announced later.

Flem O. "F.O." Clayton Jr.

Flem O. "F.O." Clayton, Jr., 95, of 261 Semora Rd, died Friday, July 27, 2012 at his residence. Born in Person County, Mr. Clayton was the son of the late Flem O. and Bettie Painter Clayton and husband of the late Dovie Lee Stephens Clayton. Mr. Clayton retired after 25-30 years in construction. He was a charter member of Westwood Baptist Church where he served as trustee for 37 years. He was the last surviving child of six sisters and four brothers.
Mr. Clayton is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, July 29, 2012, at Westwood Baptist Church by the Rev. Gerald Hodges and the Rev. Jonathan Taylor. Burial will follow in Burchwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 PM, Saturday at Westwood Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Neal Hamlett, Larry Wilkerson, Edwin Davis, Earl Clayton, Gene Roz, Mark Blalock, and Brinn Clayton.

Nancy Yancey

NANCY YANCEY, 87, of 733 Charlie Tapp Rd., Roxboro, died Friday, July 27, 2012. Born in Person County, Mrs. Yancey was the daughter of the late James "Jimmy" R. and Hallie Mae Lunsford Yancey. Mrs. Yancey retired after 20 plus years with John Umstead Hospital and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Graveside rites will be held 3 PM, Sunday, July 29, 2012, at Burchwood Cemetery by the Elder Jimmy Gray.
Mrs. Yancey is survived by one son, Larry Arnold Barr, of Van Buren, AK; two daughters, Hallie Marie Howell and Nancy Rita Glasscock, both of Roxboro; three sisters, Pauline Garrett, of Winston-Salem, Roxanna Dudley, of Raleigh and Brenda Smith, of Roxboro; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
