William Berkeley Morris, 84, of 4081 Allensville Road died Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Duke University Hospital in Durham. He was born in Halifax County, Virginia to the late Jessie and Mattie Lowery Morris. Mr. Morris was employed with Collins & Aikman Corp for 39 years. He was a member of Longhurst United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Methodist Men. Mr. Morris was an avid hunter.
Surviving are his wife, Lavonne Snead Morris of the home, two daughters, Penny M. Claiborne (husband Toney) of Oxford, and Tina M. Porterfield (husband Willie) of Roxboro; four grandchildren, Matthew Porterfield, Caitlin Porterfield, Kelsey Claiborne, and Jennifer Claiborne; one great-grandchild, Mona Mohamed.
The family will receive friends 6:30-8 PM Friday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home.
The funeral service will be 11AM Saturday, September 1, 2012, at the Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Francisco Garcia-Velasquez. Burial will be in Person Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Wilborn, Billy Wilborn, George Wilborn, R.B. Wilborn, P.C. Williams, Dave Reaves and Lawrence Morris. Honorary pallbearers will be Rufus Morris, Alan Reaves and Kenneth Morris.

Sarah Hawkins Norris

Sarah Hawkins Norris, 82, of 384 Walnut Grove Church Rd., Hurdle Mills, died Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Born in Orange County, Mrs. Norris was the daughter of the late Walter and Lottie Roundtree Hawkins. Mrs. Norris was a local artist who contributed a great deal of her time and works to the Person County Museum of History. She was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Mrs. Norris is survived by her husband, David Lawrence Norris; three children, Dennis L. Norris and wife Tracey, Brenda Norris Flowers and husband James and Phillip W. Norris, all of Hurdle Mills; four brothers, Fred Hawkins, of Durham, Warren Hawkins, of Mebane, Kenneth Hawkins, of Chapel Hill, and Wade Hawkins; five sisters, Lottie Lynch, Peggy Terry, of Durham, Rachel Cole, Edith Davis and Marie Lucas, both of Hillsborough.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. John Pritchard. Burial will follow in the Norris Family Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1-3 PM Saturday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home prior to the service.

John Eugene Verni

John Eugene Verni, age 72, of Timberlake, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, NC. Born in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Alfonso and Maria Orfino Verni who immigrated from Sannicandro di Bari, Italy in 1920. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Fantina Verni Orosz and Rose Verni Pollock, and one brother, Saverio Verni. Mr. Verni was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He had worked in Sales for many years. Mr. Verni was a beloved Husband. He was a member of Christian Faith Center in Creedmoor, NC.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 28 years, Louise Lemken Verni of Timberlake; two sisters, Anna Verni O'Connor of Boca Raton, FL and Aida Verni Moroney of Emerson, NJ; two nieces; eight nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Friday August 31, 2012 at Christian Faith Center in Creedmoor, NC by the Pastor Brenda Timberlake. Burial will follow at Wake Memorial Park in Cary, NC.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:15 to 12:45 PM on Friday at Christian Faith Center.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family at P.O. Box 254 Timberlake, NC 27583 to be given to a charity of their choice.
William "Cooney" "Tom" Thomas Burton

William Thomas "Cooney" "Tom" Burton, 75 of 108 South Charles Street died Tuesday August 28, 2012. Born in Caswell County son of the late Joe Roy Burton & Bertha Gravitte Burton. Mr. Burton retired from Person County Maintenance Dept., he was a former member of the Roxboro Optimist Club and an avid Duke fan. He was a member of Ca-Vel Baptist Church.
Surviving are two brothers Jerry Lee Burton & wife Barbara of Roxboro Wilbur Burton & wife Kathy of Roxboro, one sister Jo Anne Howerton of Roxboro, special friends Lloyd & Brenda Shelton, seven nieces & nephews, fourteen great-nieces & nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends Wednesday August 29, 2012 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home of his sister 191 Lewis Winstead Loop Road, Roxboro, NC 27574.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday August 30, 2012 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Martin Hall, Rev. Brett Carver & Rev. Joel Bradsher. Interment will follow in the Clayton Family Cemetery on Whitt Town Road.
Pallbearers will be: Craig Wrenn, Lloyd Shelton, Scott Burton, Claude Fuller, Charles Howerton & Bobby Howerton.
Honorary Pallbearers will be : Donald Huff, John Eggleston, Harris Gooch, Fred Pittard, Alvis Burch & William Reaves.

Hope Poole Thacker

Mrs. Hope Poole Thacker, age 89, of 4898 NC Hwy 57 N. Semora died Monday August 27, 2012. Mrs. Thacker was born in Person County daughter of the late Willie Poole and Mollie Wiley Poole, and wife of the late W. G. Thacker. She was a homemaker and member of Milton Baptist Church.
Surviving are four Brothers, George Poole and Charlie Poole of Semora, Edward Poole of Martinsville, VA. and Robert Poole of Appomattox, VA. and a sister Alice Cundiff of Danville, VA.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday August 29, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Brooks & White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Joe Grubbs. Interment will follow in the Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to service Wednesday August 29, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home.

John Keith Lawson

John Keith Lawson, age 50, of 1762 Todd Rd. and a former resident of Honolulu, Hawaii for 27 years, died Friday, August 24, 2012 at the Hock Family Pavilion in Durham. Born in Bedford County, VA, he was the son of the late Levi Russell and Edith Orange Lawson. He was also preceded in death by one brother, David Wayne Lawson, and one nephew, Jackson Clay Helbig. Mr. Lawson had worked as a Truck Driver for many years. He was a member of Koa Puna Motorcycle Club of Hawaii. Mr. Lawson was a member of Semora Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Lisa L. Lawson of Elon, Sherry C. Solomon and husband Keith of Roxboro, and Terri Lawson Cane of Williamsburg, VA; twelve nieces and nephews; ten great-nieces and nephews; his three beagles, Na Pua, Lei Lani, and David.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, August 27, 2012 at the Semora Baptist Church by the Pastor Joe Grubbs and the Rev. Carol Brackett. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Taylor Horner, Oscar Diaz, Reese Bailey, Ben Solomon, James Sullivan, and Jonathan Lawson.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home of Keith and Sherry Solomon, at 1762 Todd Rd., Roxboro.
