Sallie Wesley Walker, 77, of 1215 Dover St., Roxboro, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012. Born in Person County, Mrs. Walker was the daughter of the late Dewey and Evelyn Hamlet Wesley and wife of the late John Merritt Walker. Mrs. Walker retired from Collins & Aikman Corp. and was a member of Faith Independent Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her son, Gary Michael Walker.
Mrs. Walker is survived by her children, Randy Lee Walker and Johnny Dale Walker, both of Roxboro and Nancy Jane Walker, of Danville, VA; four brothers, Donnie Wesley, Dean Wesley, Tony Wesley and Wayne Wesley, all of Roxboro; three sisters, Connie Bowes, Faye Whitt and Loretta Oliver, all of Roxboro; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Friday, April 20, 2012, at Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Ron Pruitt and the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial will follow in Person Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1-2 PM, Friday, at the Brooks & White Funeral Home prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Randy Walker, Jr., Michael Wrenn, Nathan Dunevant, Michael Abumuais, Rainey Phelps, and Mark Melvin.

John Marshall Barker

John Marshall Barker, 76 of 4774 NC Hwy. 57 North, died Monday April 16, 2012. Born in Caswell County son of the late William Joseph Barker & the late Ruth Nelson Barker, in addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Nelson Barker & Norman Barker, five half brothers Walter Barker, Odell Barker, Leonard Barker, James Barker, Elmer Barker, two half sisters Nannie Zimmerman & Isma Conally. Mr. Barker was a member of Semora United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of over fifty-five years Ruby Oakes Barker of the home, one son Marshall Barker of Milton, one brother Herman Barker & wife Lorene of Richmond, Va., one sister Catherine B. Barbour & husband Wayne of Ruffin, one sister-in-law Mary Agnes Barker of Milton, four grandchildren Hunter Barker, Joseph Barker, James "Jamie" Barker, Hannah Barker, also survive.
The Family will receive friends 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Lebanon Christian Church by the Rev. Hunter Thompson. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Keith Barker, Ray Barker, Randy Barker, Douglas Barker, Ricky Roach, Tony Oakes.

Willie Averette Wilkins

Willie Averette Wilkins, 84, of 5400 SW 198TH AVE., Aloha, OR, died Monday, April 16, 2012 at Maryville Nursing Home in Beaverton. Born in Caswell County, and a longtime resident of Roxboro, Mrs. Wilkins was the daughter of the late Luther and Rosa Hicks Averette and wife of the late Arthur H. "Dot" Briggs and R. Clifton Wilkins. Mrs. Wilkins retired from Collins & Aikman Corp. and was a member of Ca-Vel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Wilkins is survived by three children, James Lemuel Briggs, of Yanceyville, Patricia Briggs Herter, of Rocklin, CA and Yvonne Briggs McLoughlin, of Aloha, OR; one brother, Walter H. Averette, of Leasburg; three grandchildren, Shelly Harris, Christie Cantor and Kim Kaplan; four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Saturday, at the Brooks & White Chapel by Mr. Wayne Briggs. Burial will follow in Person Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12-1 PM Saturday Brooks & White Chapel prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Stewart Turner, Dalton Canter, Dewayne Vaughan, Bobby Vaughan, Christopher Canter, and Traycer Barnette. Honorary pallbearers will be Zeb Barnette and Colton Barnette.

Robert Lee Slaughter

Robert Lee Slaughter, Sr., 89, of 5513 Allensville Rd., Roxboro, died Thursday, September 6, 2012. Born in Person County, Mr. Slaughter was the son of the late Zadock and Lonnie Gentry Slaughter and husband of the late Sallie Jane Day Slaughter. Mr. Slaughter was a retired truck driver and a member of Allensville United Methodist Church. He served in the Army 764th Tank Batallion Unit during WWII. He was also a member of severl bluegrass bands. Mr. Slaughter was preceded in death by his son, Paul Shelton Slaughter, and his brothers, Haward, Carlton, Daniel and Enos Slaughter.
Mr. Slaughter is survived by his children, Teresa Slaughter Toombs and husband Manuel, of Saxe, VA, Robert Lee Slaughter, Jr. and wife Nancy and Anthony Kirk Slaughter and wife Kristy, all of Roxboro; one sister, Helen Walker, of Roxboro; eight grandchildren, Austyn Slaughter, Kolten Slaughter, Tracy Ellixson, Jennifer Newton, Cody Ellixson, Robin Slaughter, Andy Slaughter, and Brandy Bradsher; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, September 8, 2012, at Allensville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ron Snider and Rev. Stewart Crank. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-7:30 PM, Friday, Brooks & White Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Tracy Ellixson, Cody Ellixson, Robin Slaughter, Andy Slaughter, Marshall Slaughter, and Bill Dunkley. Honorary pallbearers will be Wiley Flynn, Alfred Gentry, and Bernard Gentry.

Flemmie Ray Long Sr.

Flemmie Ray Long, Sr. 81 of 1417 Mill Hill Road died Thursday September 6, 2012. Born in Person County son of the late Louis Lendo Long & Quincy Shotwell Long, in addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife of forty-nine years Rose Frederick Long, his son Robin Cothran Long, three brothers Talmadge Long, Thomas Long & Charles Long. Mr. Long worked for Kirby & Long Gas Company then he went to work for Public Service Company of NC. He was co-owner & operator of Thomas Long's Steak House in South Boston, Va. and Long's Steak House in Bedford, Va., he also worked for The Old Country Club Steak House and retired at the age seventy-five. He was a U. S. Army Veteran having served from 1953 thru 1955 in England and he was a member of Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife Janet Barrett Hatcher Long of the home, one daughter Rana Howle & husband Tucky, one son Flemmie Ray Long, Jr. & wife Judy, two-step-daughters Kimberly Hatcher, Suzette Hunley & husband Ronnie, one sister Margaret Kirby all of Roxboro, nine grandchildren Rosemarie Howle Ellis, Carrie Dail Howle, Thomas Howle, IV., Jimmy Ray Long, Robin Long, Amber Ellixson, Jenny Humphries, Brandon Nelson, Nick Long, four great-grandchildren David Holt, Hannah Holt, Austin McKinney, Bailey Rae Long, one step-granddaughter Barrett Hunley, one step-great granddaughter Codi-Layne Ellixson also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM Saturday September 8, 2012 at Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church and other times at the home.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday September 9, 2012 at Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Gerald Thomas & Rev. Herman Absher. Interment will follow at Person Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Roy Huff, Bobby Dickerson, A. C. Trickey, Edwin Long, Chris Long, Charles Dickerson, Jerry Davis, Harry Clayton, Lewis Long.

Huldah Doris Hester

Died: 09/06/2012 and resided in Hurdle Mills, NC
Huldah Doris Hester, of the Hester’s Store community passed away September 6, 2012 at home. Born in Person County she was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Claudia G. Hester.
She was preceded in death by a brother Lewis Franklin and a sister Martha Frances Hester.
She is survived by a nephew John Lewis Hester and his wife Nancy, of Auburn, PA and a niece Peggy Hester Staley of Hester's Store Community, and Nieces and Nephews.
She is also survived also by two great caregivers, Pauline Blanks and Betty Locklear.
She is also survived by her longtime friend Jimmy Winslow.
She was a member of Salem Methodist Church where she served as pianist and organist. She was a member and Secretary of the Official Board for many years. She also served as a Communion Steward.
She was a graduate of the East Carolina Teachers College. She was a member of the Beta Kappa Gamma Honorary Society. She taught school in the North Carolina School system for 41 years.
Funeral services will be held Sunday September 9, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Salem United Methodist Church by the Rev. Renee Burnette & Rev. Phillip Parrish. Interment will follow in the Hester Family Cemetery
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM Saturday September 8, 2012 at Brooks & White Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Nick Johnson, Matt Johnson, Craig Hester, Rainey Hester, Pat Hester, Calvin Hester, and Jack Hester.
