Brenda Tatum Welch, age 60, of 100-B Benny Oakley Rd., died Sunday, April 19, 2009 at her home. She was born in Person County. She was the daughter of the late Clyde Tatum and Margaret O’Neal Tatum. She was preceded in death by her son, Ricky O. Welch and her brother, Clyde Tatum, Jr. She was employed by Fluor Construction. She was a member of Ca-Vel Baptist Church.
Surviving are her daughter and her husband, Teresa W. Burch (Roger), of Roxboro; one sister and her husband, Sondra T. Dixon (Dale) of Roxboro; three grandchildren, Zackary Burch, Kelsey Welch, Zane Burch, nephews, Chris Dixon and wife Sarah, and Brooks Dixon, former daughter-in-law, Melissa Dean, and special friends, Lee and Jeanette Wallace.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Gerald Thomas. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 PM Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, 1270 Whitt Town Rd.
Pallbearers will be Randy Tatum, Scott Tatum, Thomas Tatum, Jerry Davis, David Trickey, Fred Cox, David Clayton, Rodney Lunsford, and Lee Wallace.

William Ephraim Stewart

William Ephraim Stewart, 81, of 6671 Boston Rd., died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at the Roxboro Nursing Center. Born in Person County, Mr. Stewart was the son of the late Esker F. and Earlie Talley Stewart. Mr. Stewart was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and he attended Mill Creek Baptist Church. He served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Mr. Stewart is survived by two brothers, Herford Stewart, of Roxboro and Ingle Stewart, of Conyers, GA; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday at the Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Tommy Robertson. Burial will follow in Person Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1-2 PM Sunday prior to the service.

Megan Pearl Walker

Megan Pearl Walker, 22, of 2505 Old Durham Rd., died Friday, April 17, 2009. Born in Durham County, Megan is the daughter of Lawrence “Pop” and Nita Thomas Walker, of Timberlake. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, J.L. Thomas and Thomas and Macey Pearl Walker and her great-grandparents, Robert and Mollie Pearl Yancey. Megan graduated from Person High School in 2004, where she was a member of the Who’s Who Among Young Americans all four years. She also received The Herald Sun’s The Front Page Award in 2004 representing Person County in the Technical Category. She later graduated from Mount Olive College with an Associates in Science degree and from Watts School of Nursing in December 2007. She was awarded the Burke Matthews Memorial Award by the Watts Alumni Association, which is awarded for dedication to nursing and loyal participation in student activities. She became a registered nurse in January 2008 and worked for the Emergency Department of Person Memorial Hospital. Megan was currently in school trying to get into the RN-MSN program so that she could become a Nurse Educator. She loved her church, Mt. Harmony Baptist Church, where she was a very active member participating with the youth and the AWANA’s.
In addition to her parents, Megan is survived by her grandmother, Hazelene Thomas, of Timberlake.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Monday at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church by the Rev. Barry Chambers and the Rev. Brian Hagar. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:30-8:30 PM Sunday at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church and at other times at the home of her parents at 800 Pixley Pritchard Rd., Timberlake.
Pallbearers will be Derrick Whitfield, Randy Walker, Blake Walker, Mark Walker, Charles Lee, Jimmy Nelson, Wayne Wheeler and Keith Nelson. Honorary pallbearers will be Cole Wilkerson and Case Wilkerson.

Robert E. "Bob" Daniel

Robert E. “Bob” Daniel, age 76, of 330 White Oak Dr. died Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Person Memorial Hospital. He was born in Person County and was the son of the late Willis Jule Daniel and Lila Perkins Daniel. He was preceded in death by a son Bill Daniel. He was married to Elizabeth Elliott Daniel. He was a US Army veteran. He was a very active member of Roxboro Baptist Church where he served as deacon, a member of the choir, and Sunday School Superintendent. A memorial service will be held 3 PM Friday, April 17, 2009 at the Roxboro Baptist Church by Dr. DuPre Sanders. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Hodgin, Sam Carver, Reid Davis, Elmer Black, Charles Jackson, and Robert Simons.
The family will be receiving friends immediately following the service at Roxboro Baptist Church and at other times at the home.

Janet Pope Blalock

Roxboro - Janet Pope Blalock, 79, of 300 Hugh Blalock Rd., died peacefully at her home Tuesday, September 1, 2015. She was born in Wake County to the late J. G. Pope and Mary Tilley Pope. Janet was wife of the late Hugh G. Blalock, Jr.
She was a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church and she enjoyed visiting elderly members of the Roxboro community with her many church friends.
Janet also loved to spend time in her garden and tending to her beautiful flowers. Grandma Janet enjoyed shopping for her grandchildren and showering them with gifts and love.
She was also a member of the Roxboro Garden Club. Janet worked 34 years as administrative assistant for Senator R. C. Soles, Jr. in the NC State Legislature.
Mrs. Blalock is survived by two sons, Stephen H. Puryear and wife Barbara, of Keystone Heights, FL and Mark D. Puryear and wife Deanne, of Raleigh; and a step daughter, Kathy Casey and husband David, of Raleigh; one sister, Joyce Stuart and husband Ricky, of Fuquay-Varina; one brother, David Pope and wife Belinda, of Pinehurst; and grandchildren, Stephanie, Connor, Colby, Zachary, Bailey, and Erin.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, September 4, 2015 at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church in Rougemont by the Rev. Barry Chambers. Visitation will be held from 1-2 PM Friday prior to the service. Graveside services will be held 11AM Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Wake Chapel Cemetery in Fuquay-Varina by Pastor Steve Ellis.

Edith Painter Pleasant

Edith Painter Pleasant, 83, of 1268 Painter Rd., died Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Duke University Medical Center. Born in Caswell County, Mrs. Pleasant was the daughter of the late C.S. and Minnie Oakley Painter and wife of the late James Reuben Pleasant. Mrs. Pleasant was a homemaker and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Pleasant is survived by her sons, Jay Pleasant, of Prospect Hill and Bruce Pleasant, of the home; one brother, James M. Painter, of Prospect Hill; one sister, Lois Painter Cooper, and husband Dr. Gerald, of Atlanta, GA; one grandchild, Kayren Pleasant, of Blairs, VA. Mrs. Pleasant was preceded in death by her brother Carl Painter and her sister, Lucy Mae Talley.
Graveside services will be held 3 PM Tuesday at Cooper Cemetery by the Pastor Joe Jackson.
