Edward Lawrence Moore

Died: 12/11/2011 and resided in Roxboro, NC

Edward Lawrence Moore of 295 White Oak Dr., died on December 11, 2011. Lawrence was born in Person County on May 28, 1930. He was the son of the late Hattie Williams Moore and Joseph Gilbert Moore. Lawrence's three late sisters were Vertie Moore Jackson, Ethel Moore Wade, and Emily Moore Stonbraker and two late brothers, Wallace Moore and Joe Moore.

Lawrence is survived by his spouse, Ellen Clayton Moore and his four daughters and their spouses, Debbie Moore (Jerry), Mitzi Moore Savage, Gerri Moore Mosholder (Mark), Tracy Moore Allen (Terry). Lawrence has seven grandchildren, Scott Clayton (Shelley), Cameron Savage Ammann (Ryan), Maggie Savage, Chase Allen, Ashley Allen, Matthew Mosholder and Jacob Mosholder. He has one great-granddaughter, Ava Gabrielle Clayton, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lawrence was a long standing member and Sunday school teacher at Long Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a huge fan of Rocket football and Duke basketball. He was owner and operator of Moore's Antiques. He was an extremely loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a long time volunteer fireman with the Roxboro Fire Department. As President of Roxboro High School Class of 1948, Lawrence organized the class reunion for 60 years.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 13 from 6:30-8 PM at the Brooks & White Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 14 at 2 PM at Long Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bruce Allen. Burial will follow in Person Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Scott Clayton, Chase Allen, Matthew Mosholder, Jacob Mosholder, Bob Wade, and Bill Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews Bill Jackson, Joe Moore, Landon Moore and Carl Stonbraker.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, c/o Gracie Napier, 355A S. Madison Blvd, Roxboro, NC, 27573 or Long Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 310, Roxboro, NC, 27573.

Alva Henderson Clayton
Born: 11/11/1918 Person County, NC
Died: 01/04/2012 and resided in Timberlake,

Alva Henderson Clayton, age 93, of 475 Flat Woods Rd. died Wednesday, January 4, 2012. Born in Person County, he was the son of the late John Ausborne and Lucy James Clayton. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Reed Clayton. Mr. Clayton was a WWII Veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Clayton was a member of Helena United Methodist Church where he was a choir member for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Helen Foushee Clayton of the home; two daughters, Carolyn Clayton Shipley and husband Michael of Durham and Janet Lynn Clayton of Durham; one son, Kenneth Wayne Clayton and wife Cindy, of Charlotte; one brother, William Clayton and wife Rachel of Durham; three grandchildren, Alison Shipley Osenga and husband Andrew of Nashville, TN, Clay Shipley and wife Sarah, of Durham, and Lauren Clayton of Charlotte; three great-grandchildren, Ella Osenga, Sadie Osenga, and Colton Shipley.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Helena United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jack Snyder. Burial will follow at Person Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 12:45 PM Saturday prior to the service at Helena United Methodist Church.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Helena United Methodist Church, 290 Helena Moriah Rd., Timberlake, NC 27583, or ARC of Person County, P.O. Box 1182 Roxboro, NC 27573.

Charles Gregory Self
Born: 08/27/1971 Charleston, SC
Died: 01/06/2012 and resided in Oxford, NC

Charles Gregory Self age 40 of 4679 James Royster Road, Oxford, NC died Friday afternoon January 6, 2011. Mr. Self was born in Charleston, South Carolina and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was employed by Arnold's Bread Company.

Surviving are his parents, his father Charlie Self of Roxboro, his mother, Shelia Rogers Dukes of Durham, his wife, Kim O'Neal Self of the home, three daughters, Crystal Kemmerlin of Stem, Haley Self and Mackenzie Self both of the home; one grandchild, Madison Kemmerlin; his maternal grandfather, Ira Rogers of Roxboro.

The family will receive friends 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Brooks & White Chapel and other times at the home.

The funeral service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the Brooks & White Chapel. Burial will be in the South Granville Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Larry Grinstead Davis
Born: 11/25/1950 Person County, NC
Died: 01/10/2012 and resided in Roxboro,

Larry Grinstead Davis, age 61, of Paynes Tavern Rd. died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Born in Person County he was the son of the late Elder Charles Burch Davis, Jr. and Jeanette Grinstead Davis who survives. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Davis. Mr. Davis was a graduate of the last class of Helena High School in 1969 and had an Associate Degree in Business from Piedmont Community College. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force, 388 MMS from 1969 to 1972. During the Vietnam War he served in Karat, Thailand. He was employed with AW North Carolina. Mr. Davis was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir, served as Sunday School Superintendent, was a member and former president of the Methodist Men, and served in various other capacities.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Sandra "Sandy" Rudd Davis of the home; two sons, Zane of Roxboro and Tyler of Durham; one sister, Barbara Phipps and husband, Ron of Roxboro; two brothers, Charles Davis and wife, Irene of Richmond, VA, and Jimmy Davis and wife, Faye of Raleigh.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, January 13, 2012 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Donald Daniel and the Rev. Jim Huskins. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Bowes, Mickey Clayton, Donnie Davis, Lawrence Grinstead, Robbie Johnson, Lin Jones, Bert Lea, and Alex Owen.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church New Fellowship Hall and other times at the home.

Waddell William Breeze

Waddell William Breeze, 92, of Hurdle Mills, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Person Memorial Hospital in Roxboro. Born in Person County, Mr. Breeze was the son of the late William Asial "Willie" and Mamie Savannah Bradsher Breeze and husband of the late Doris Whitfield Breeze. Mr. Breeze served in the US Army during WWII from 1941 to 1945 in Hawaii. He was the proprietor of D.L. Whitifield & Company until his retirement in 1980. Mr. Breeze was an active member of Clement Baptist Church where currently he was a church trustee. He served on the first Board of Directors of the Hurdle Mills Volunteer Fire Department and also served as treasurer for many years. When his health allowed, he was an avid golfer. Mr. Breeze is preceded in death by two sisters, Ivaline Blaylock and Norma Jean Gray and two brothers, Melvin and Russell Breeze.

Mr. Breeze is survived by his wife, Golvia Bowes Solomon Breeze; three daughters, Jane Morris and husband Danny, of Hurdle Mills, Hope Breeze, of Durham, and Dawn Martin and husband Billy, of Hurdle Mills; two step-children, Gail Foushee and husband Ray and Andy Solomon and wife Lila, all of Hurdle Mills; two brothers, Maurice Breeze, of Burlington and Jimmy Breeze, of Hurdle Mills; five sisters, Josephine Clayton and Violet Breeze, both of Hurdle Mills, Margaret Loftis, of Timberlake, Bernease Foushee, of Hurdle Mills and Betty Hearn, of Bartow, FL; six grandchildren, Kevin Morris, Amanda Morris, Allison Dacus, Will Martin, Dusty Martin and Erin Martin; five step-grandchildren, Jason Foushee, Anna Welch, Brandon Solomon, Nicholas Solomon and Liana Solomon; seven great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Clement Baptist Church by the Dr. Ben Gault and the Dr. Ron Boswell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with the Rev. Henry Pennington officiating. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM, Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Clement Baptist Church Fellowship Hall and at other times at the home.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Morris, Will Martin, Dusty Martin, Andy Solomon, Ray Foushee, David Poindexter, Cecil Allen, Howard Whitfield. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Hazel, Pete Rudder, Whitey Clayton, David Cunnup, Randy Pleasant, Randy Reed and members of the Senior Men's Sunday School Class.

Mable Lois Chatham
Born: 09/02/1923 Person County, NC
Died: 01/10/2012 and resided in Roxboro, NC

Mable Lois Chatham 88 of 901 Ridge Road died Tuesday January 10, 2012 at Person Memorial Hospital. Born in Person County daughter of the late Irvin Chatham & the late Sallie Rudder Chatham. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four sisters Myrtle Crabtree, Mary Sue Chatham, Rosa Bell Allen & Alice Wilkerson and one brother William Chatham. Miss Chatham was a member of Berry's Grove Baptist Church.

Miss Chatham is survived by several Nieces & Nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday January 13, 2012 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM one hour prior to the service.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday January 13, 2012 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Scott Williams & the Rev. Craig Willingham. Interment will follow in Berry's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery

Pallbearers will be Kevin Crabtree, Tommy Compton, Doug Dillon, Donnie Dillon, Ken Shelton & Mark Ellis.
