Lee McDonald “Mac” Rogers, Sr., 82, of Orange, TX died Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Renaissance Hospital in Groves, TX.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Barry Bradley, pastor of First Baptist Church in Orange.
Additional services in North Carolina will begin with family receiving friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2012, at Brooks & White Funeral Home in Roxboro, North Carolina. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at Burchwood Cemetery in Roxboro.
Born on a farm near Roxboro, North Carolina on January 24, 1929, Mac was the son of Roy and Carrie (Crumpton) Rogers. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1951 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and from Augusta Law School in Augusta, GA, with a bachelor of laws degree. He was employed by DuPont for 39 years, and he worked at Sabine River Works in Orange from 1964 until his retirement in 1992.
Mac served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954, and on December 12, 1954, he married Dorothy (Dot) Mullins in Jackson, TN. He was very active in the community, serving as treasurer of Troop 23 Boy Scouts of America for many years. He served on the Board of Directors of the Orange YMCA and was a volunteer tax return preparer for AARP. Mac was active in the Data Processing Management Association, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Orange, Texas for over 40 years. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and playing bridge as a Gold Life Master. Mac loved his family and enjoyed being with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Carrie Rogers; wife, Dorothy (Dot) Mullins Rogers; grandson, Brandon Brigman; brothers, Bernice, Leon, Earl, and Jack Rogers; and sister, Doris Rogers.
Mac is survived by his sons, Lee and wife Liz of Roswell, NM, Ray and wife Mandy of Orange; step-daughter, Marilyn Brigman and husband Gayle of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Emily Cometti and husband Brandon, Lee McDonald “Mac” Rogers III, Anna Rogers, Sheridan Rogers, Karly Raye Rogers; and brother, Arnold Rogers of Yanceyville, NC.

Dossie Lee Keatts

Died: 12/28/2011 and resided in Rougemont
Dossie Lee Keatts, age 68, of Rougemont, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011. Born in Pittsylvania County, VA, he was the son of the late John and Lonnie Keatts. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Oscar Keatts. Mr. Keatts had worked as a machinist for many years. Mr. Keatts enjoyed challenging projects including woodworking, painting, and restoring cars. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Linda Peed Keatts of the home; one daughter, Michelle Keatts Blanks and husband John of Roxboro; two brothers, Melvin Keatts of Rougemont, and Bobby Keatts of Danville, VA; two sisters, Martha Keatts and Cordy Keatts both of Danville.
A private family graveside service will be held Saturday December 31, 2011 at the Mt. Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Barry Chambers. Pallbearers will be Richard Keatts, Donald Vaughn, Norman Adcock, Michael Simpson, Joe Whitt, and Edward Glasscock.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Friday, December 30, 2011 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home of his wife.

Ann McNeil Hurley

Died: 12/28/2011 and resided in Roxboro, NC
Ann McNeil Hurley, 82, of 201 Montpelier Ave., Roxboro, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011. Born in Ashe County, NC, Mrs. Hurley was the daughter of the late Thomas and Bessie Miller McNeil. She was a homemaker and a dedicated member of Westwood Baptist Church where she previously served on the communion committee. She was a faithful and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Hurley is survived by her husband, Manley Raymond Hurley; one daughter, Anita Duncan and husband Kim, of Wake Forest; one brother, Don McNeil, of West Jefferson; two sisters, Clyde McNeil Black, of West Jefferson and Ida McNeil Brown, of Jefferson; three grandchildren, Christopher Gentry Duncan and fiance Tanya Marie Kossler, Beth Baucom and husband Daniel and Juliana Duncan; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hurley was preceded in death by her siblings, Garl McNeil, Wade McNeil, Lucy McNeil and Mary McNeil.
Funeral services will be held 11AM, Friday, December 30, 2011, at Westwood Baptist Church by the Rev. Gerald Hodges and the Rev. Jonathan Taylor. Burial will follow in Person Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:30-8 PM, Thursday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Patricia Mangum Day

Died: 12/26/2011 and resided in Timberlake, NC
Patricia Mangum Day, 65, went to her Heavenly home December 26, 2011. The oldest daughter of the late Robert J. and Virginia M. Mangum, she is survived by two brothers, James and Alfred (Bill) Mangum and one sister and best friend Marie Caldwell.
She also leaves behind her sons, the pride and joy of her life, Michael L. and Anthony W. "Andy"; her granddaughter, Karen Dawn and her companion, friend and very special man, William Brock.
A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2011 from 6-7:30 PM at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
Ronnie Dean Snead

Died: 12/24/2011 and resided in South Boston, VA
Ronnie Dean Snead, age 46, of South Boston, VA died Saturday, December 24, 2011. Born in Person County, he is the son of Flora "Jean" Snead and Troy Snead. Mr. Snead had worked as an Iron Worker in the Construction Industry.
Survivors in addition to his parents are three daughters, Stephanie Snead, Lora Lee Snead, and Sarah Snead all of South Boston, VA; one brother, Troy Lynn Snead of Roxboro; three sisters, Gloria Sprinkles, Brenda Hilliard, Maria Powell and husband Ronald, all of Roxboro; one granddaughter, Leeanna Faith Watkins; his ex-wife Michalene Snead of South Boston.

Evelyn Frances Dickerson Shotwell

Evelyn Frances Dickerson Shotwell, 93, of 370 Haywood Bailey Road, Roxboro, NC, died Friday, December 23, 2011 at Person Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Shotwell was born in Person County on November 28, 1918, to the late Walter G. Dickerson and Ombrice Harris Dickerson. She was married to the late Berkley Thomas Shotwell for 62 years. Mrs. Shotwell was a member of Montwood Baptist Church for over 53 years, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, church clerk, choir member and was active in the Women's Missionary Union, and also where she was elected Mother of the Year and was named Homecoming Honoree. She retired from Belk-Leggett's Department Store with over 30 years service.
Mrs. Shotwell is survived by four sons, John Thomas Shotwell of Buchanan, VA, and his fiancee, Nancy Horne of Roanoke, VA; Bobby Ray Shotwell and wife, Patricia of Alton, VA; Frank Shotwell and wife, Joyce and Michael D. Shotwell and wife, Teresa all of Roxboro; a special nephew, Brent Carver and wife Beverly of Roxboro; five sisters, Ruth Burch, Joyce Carver, and Dorothy Wrenn and husband, Edward, all of Roxboro; Christine Kepley of Chapel Hill and Ruby Whitfield and husband, Kelly of Burlington; three brothers, William Dickerson and wife, Barbara of Roxboro; Talmadge Dickerson and wife Cathy of Hillsborough; Gerald Dickerson and wife, Nobie of Burlington; a step-mother, Rosa Dickerson of Roxboro; two half-brothers, Ted Dickerson and wife, Connie of Omaha, NE and Tim Dickerson and wife, Jackie of Roxboro; nine grandchildren, Kim Wilder and husband, Alan, Evie Harrison and husband, Tom, Andy Shotwell and wife, Carolyn, Kevin Shotwell and wife Anna, Ryan Shotwell and wife Heather, Kyle Shotwell and wife Kelly, Bridget Bowen and husband Rodney, Blake Shotwell and wife, Angela, and Brittany Shotwell; 13 great- grandchildren, Cole and Woody Wilder, Haley, Lindsay, Aiden, Paige, Katie, Anneliese, Page, Godfrey, Kate, and Collin Berkley Shotwell, and Kensleigh Bowen; and a long time family friend, Jimmy Barley.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by three brothers, Roland, Gilbert, and Jimmy Dickerson, and two sisters, Gertie Holt and Betty Wilkins.
Funeral services will be conducted at Montwood Baptist Church on Tuesday, December 27, at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Carroll Brackett, the Rev. Hal Dickerson and the Rev. Alan Wilder presiding. Interment will be at Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Andy, Ryan, Kevin, Kyle, and Blake Shotwell, and Brent Carver.
Visitation will be held at Montwood Baptist Church on Monday, December 26, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM and at other times at the home at 370 Haywood Bailey Road.
