Mary Elaine Brigham Whitfield, 28, born October 3, 1982, died May 1, 2011 in a traffic accident in Panama City, Florida. Mrs. Whitfield graduated from Person High School in 2001 and later Piedmont Community College in 2003. She was a hairstylist and a member of Salem United Methodist Church. Mary took after her late grandfather, Ed Perez, in that she never met a stranger.
Mrs. Whitfield is survived by her husband, Corey Whitfield; her parents, George and Celia Brigham, of Hurdle Mills; her grandmother, Veronica Perez, of Hurdle Mills; her brothers, Frank Brigham, of Wingate, Paul Brigham and wife Kim, of Waxhaw, and David Brigham and wife Jessica, of Swansboro; her nieces, Victoria Brigham and Allyson Brigham; her Aunt Jackie & Uncle Big Dave Brown of Timberlake, NC; her Uncle Paul & Aunt Cathy Perez of Durham, NC; her Aunt Rosemary & Uncle Paul McElvein of Derby, NY; her Uncle Bill & Aunt Beverly of Greenville, SC.; her cousins Sid, Sharon, Tonya, Rhonda, Jennifer, Raymond, Bob, Ruth, Jack, Joanne, Gary; her mother-in-law, Susan Hair and husband Steve, of Semora; and her father-in-law, Bobby Whitfield and wife Gail, of Semora and hundreds of very special friends.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Monday at Salem United Methodist Church by the Rev. David Foushee and the Rev. Matt Hearn. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-8:30 PM Sunday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Bobby and Gail Whitfield, 328 St. George Ln.
Pallbearers will be Stephan McCormick, Steve Hair, Frank Brigham, Bobby Whitfield, Robbie Whitfield, and Brian Whitfield.
Doreen Day Lunsford

Died: 05/01/2011 and resided in Timberlake, NC
Doreen Day Lunsford, 89, of 2120 Frank Timberlake Rd., Timberlake, died Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Person Memorial Hospital in Roxboro. Born in Person County, Mrs. Lunsford was the daughter of the late Lemmie and Evelyn Clayton Day and wife of the late Henderson Lunsford. She was also preceded in death by three children, Lemmie D. Lunsford, Linda L. Yarboro, and Debro L. Tilley and one grandchild. Mrs. Lunsford was a homemaker and a member of Surl Primitive Baptist Church.
Mrs. Lunsford is survived by six children, Coreen L. Blalock and husband D.M. and Doris L. Compton and husband Charles, all of Roxboro, Ricky Lunsford and wife Clara and Betty Sue Lunsford, all of Timberlake, Naomi L. Denny and husband Arnold, of Roxboro and L.B. Lunsford and wife Nannie Lou, of Hurdle Mills; seventeen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at the Brooks & White Chapel by the Elder David Minter. Burial will follow in Burchwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:30-8 PM, Tuesday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Raymond Richard Currier

Died: 05/02/2011 and resided in Roxboro, NC
Raymond Richard Currier, 85, died Monday, May 2, 2011 at his residence. Born in Bridgeport, CT, Mr. Currier was the son of the late George Raymond and Helen Black Currier. Mr. Currier served in the US Air Force. He graduated from NCSU and he retired from PPG Industries. He was a member of the American Association of Textile Colorist and Chemist. Mr. Currier was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and especially husband.
Mr. Currier is survived by his wife, Ida Frances Currier; three children, Raymond Richard Currier, Jr., and David Harris Currier, both of Statesville and Constance Currier Holoman, of Buffalo, NY; three brothers, Robert Currier, of Roxboro, Gary Currier, of Beaufort and James "Jimmy" Currier, of Roxboro; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 11AM, Friday at Roxboro Baptist Church by the Dr. DuPre Sanders. Visitation will be held 7-8:30 PM Thursday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Ernestine Falkner Wilson

Ernestine Falkner Wilson, age 88, of 318 Reade Dr., died Monday, May 2, 2011 at Cantebury House in Roxboro. Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Horace Eugene and Lonie Nelson Falkner and wife of the late Sherman Edwin Wilson, Sr. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Wilson Alley and two brothers, Horace E. Falkner, Jr. and L. Nelson "Pete" Falkner. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church. She was also a past member of Eastern Star and the Women's Auxiliary For VFW.
Survivors include one son, Sherman Edwin Wilson, Jr. and wife, Wanda of Henderson; one daughter, Tina Wilson Adams and husband Ron of Fuquay-Varina; 10 grandchildren, Jay Bolick, Tanya Parker, Keith Bolick, Jason Adams, Tory Klinedinst, Lindsay Adams, Felix Alley IV., Michael Alley, Christie Wilson and Dale Wilson ; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Calvin Falkner and wife Margie of Henderson.
The funeral service will be 2:00 PM Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Roxboro Baptist Church with the Dr. DuPre Sanders officiating. Burial will be in the Person Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:45 to 1:45 PM Thursday prior to the service at Roxboro Baptist Church and other times at the home.

Evelyn Garrett Painter

Evelyn Garrett Painter, age 85, of 390 Alleghany Drive, died Monday, May 9, 2011 at her home. Born in Person County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Copeland Garrett, Sr. and Evie Bynum Green Garrett. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Copeland Garrett Jr. and William Elwood Garrett. Mrs. Painter had graduated from Louisburg College and worked as a School Teacher. Mrs. Painter had been Head of the Handicap Program at March Air Force Base in California, an International Ikibonna Instructor and had been in charge of the Bridal Department at the Harris Company in California. She was a member of the D.A.R. and Roxboro Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Hassell H. Painter of the home; two sons, Hassell Wayne Painter and wife Bobbie of Billings, MT. and Charles Bradford Painter and wife Ava of East Highland, CA.; one daughter, Donna Sue Painter and husband Fred of Raleigh; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Brooks & White Chapel. The Dr. DuPre Sanders will be officiating. Interment will follow at Person Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday prior to the service at Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Everleen Clayton Martin

Everleen Hildress Clayton Martin, 76, of 4230 Roxboro Rd., died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham. Born in Person County, Mrs. Martin was the daughter of the late Edward Curtis and Florence Clayton and wife of the late Bobby Long and Henry Martin. Mrs. Martin retired from Collins & Aikman and was of the Primitive Baptist faith. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Edward Clayton.
Mrs. Martin is survived by two children, Kenneth Long and wife Rene, of Sanford and Denise Long Hicks and David Williams, of Creedmoor; three grandchildren, Brandon Long and wife Meagan, Mitchell Long, and Lindsay Hicks.
Visitation will be held 6:30 PM to 8 PM, Thursday, at the Brooks & White Funeral Home. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
