Wilmer Russell Hunt Ray

Wilmer Russell Hunt Ray, age 87, of 722 Frank Street, died Friday, November 12, 2010 at the Hock Family Pavilion in Durham. She was born in Randolph County and was the daughter of the late Clingman Russell and Mary Luther Russell. She was preceded in death by her first husband John Robert Hunt in 1954, second husband J. D. Ray in 1992, her daughter Geraldine Hunt Averette, one sister, Lucille Russell Hurley. She was retired from Collins & Aikman. She was a member of Somerset Baptist Church.
Surviving are two grandchildren, Crystal Averette Laws and Randy Averette both of Roxboro; two great-grandchildren, Serena Laws and Logan Laws, two nephews, Paul Shaw, Jr., and Wayne Shaw.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, November 15, at the Brooks & White Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Herbert Brown Burial will follow in the Person Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at 260 Charlie Jay Road, Roxboro, NC 27574.
William Marvin Owens

William Marvin "Snooks" Owens, 79, of 1423 Lucy Garrett Road, Roxboro, died Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Pettigrew Rehab. & Healthcare Cent. in Durham. Born in Durham County, Mr. Owens was the son of the late Alex and Bessie Lee Owens. Mr. Owens was a retired prison guard and a member of Timberlake Baptist Church. He served in the US Army.
Mr. Owens is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bertha Day Owens; two children, Floyd Owens and wife Carol and Brenda O. Harris and husband Roger, all of Roxboro; one brother, Herman Owen, of Timberlake; three grandchildren, Michelle O. Crabtree, Sandi H. Meachum and Robyn Harris-Morton; ten great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Sunday at the Day Family Cemetery, Johnny Palmer Rd., Roxboro, by the Rev. Donald Harris and the Rev. Jimmy Pulliam. The family will receive friends at the home on Saturday.

Carl Lee Cooper

Carl Lee Cooper, age 68, of 263 Heritage Rd., died Thursday, November 11, 2010 at his home. Born in Yancey County, NC, he was the son of the late Grover Penland and Hazel Cooper Penland. He was also preceded in death by his son Chris Richards. Mr. Cooper had been a truck driver for 50 years. He was a Christian.
Survivors include his wife Catherine Richards Cooper of the home; two daughters, Frances Pruitt and fiance Glen of Roxboro, and Ruth Jones and husband Sam of Cedar Grove; six sons, Douglas Cooper and wife Denise of Stem, Norman Richards and wife Carol of Virginia, Daniel Richards of Virginia, Justin, Salvador, and Jonathan Cooper all of the home; six brothers; one sister; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, November 14, 2010 at Person County Group Home, 202 N. Main St. Roxboro.
The family will receive friends at other times at the home.

Randy Clayton

Randy Clayton, age 61 of 1272 City Lake Road, died Wednesday evening at his home. Mr. Clayton was born in Person County son of the late Mellie Love Clayton & Mable Sue Clayton. He was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church. He enjoyed his co-workers at Eaton, Family, Friends, was an avid gardener and loved bluegrass music.
Surviving are his daughter, Tammy Clayton, two sons, Travis Scott Clayton, Darrick Trent Clayton and wife Melissa, of Roxboro; one brother, Eugene Clayton of Hopewell, VA; two sisters, Nancy C. Bowles and husband Bobby. Connie C. Penland and husband William, of Roxboro; three grandchildren, Brandon Burton, Jonah Tatum, and Aryah Clayton.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday at Brooks & White Funeral home Chapel by the Rev. L. L. Watlington, Rev. Herbert Brown, and Mr. Jim May. Interment will follow in the Clayton Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ricky Carver, David Clayton, Caroll Clayton, Mike Clayton, Thedford Clayton, Coy Clayton, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Briggs Jerome Harris, Sterling Buddy Hamlett, and Oscar Serria.

Lynda Collins Mooney

Lynda Collins Mooney, age 64, of 2301 Jim Latta Rd., died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at her home. Born in Wake County, she was the daughter of the late William McWhite Collins and Edna Blinson Collins. Mrs. Mooney was also preceded in death by her brother Ronnie Collins. She had retired from BB&T; Banking in Durham after 30 years of service. Mrs. Mooney was a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband Randy Mooney of the home; one daughter, Jamie Pergerson and husband Chad of Rougemont; one son, Eric R. Mooney of Rougemont; one sister, Joyce Collins Putnam and husband Doug of Raleigh; two brothers, Bill Collins and wife Bonnie of Nags Head, and David Collins of Garner; two grandchildren, Collin G. Mooney and Brianna Grace Pergerson; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, May 20, 2011 at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church. The Rev. Barry Chambers will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Anderson, Forrest Cozart, Bruce Whitfield, David Wilson, James Mangum and R.T. Buchanan.

Maurice McLean Wilson

Died: 04/24/2011 and resided in Hurdle Mills, NC
Maurice McLean Wilson, age 86, of 7887 Burlington Rd., died Sunday, April 24, 2011 at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Alamance County. Born in Orange County, he was the son of the late Daniel and Bertha Bradsher Wilson. He was also preceded in death by one son, Daniel Wilson and six siblings. Mr. Wilson was a retired supervisor and he served in the US Navy during WWII.
Mr. Wilson is survived by two daughters; one brother and three sisters.
A graveside service will be held at Wheeler's Primitive Baptist Church at a later date.
