Victoria Elaine Clayton, age 16, of 222 Reams Ave. Apt. 1, died Friday October 23, 2010. Born in Durham County, she is the daughter of Rebecca Whitlow "Becky" Clayton and Willie Lawrence "Larry" Clayton, III. She was preceded in death by her grandmother Rebecca Wrenn Clayton. Victoria is described as being a gift from God, intelligent, beautiful, athletic, and sociable. She loved everyone she met and was loved by all in return. Victoria was a member of the Key Club at Person High School, was a North Carolina Scholar, and was in the Duke "TIPS" Talent Identification Program. She was a dancer with Fabulous Feet Dance Academy. She had also been a former soccer and volleyball player as well as a cheerleader at Northern Middle School. Victoria was a member of High View Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her Grandparents, Talmadge Whitlow and Charlie Mae McKinney Whitlow, and Willie Lawrence Clayton, Jr., as well as a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday October 25, 2010 at High View Baptist Church. The Rev. Avery Dalton and the Rev. Tommy Faust will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Clayton Family Cemetery off of Wrenn Crumpton Rd. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Rothrock, Kenneth "Whit" Rothrock, Landon Whitlow, Mike Reaves, Steven Gentry, and Casey Gentry.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Sunday October 24, 2010 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Rodney Joseph Long

Died: 10/23/2010 and resided in Roxboro, NC
Rodney Joseph Long, 27, of 1438 Stone Dr., Roxboro, died Saturday, October 23, 2010. Born in Durham County, Mr. Long was the son of Robbie Joseph and Rhonda Satterfield Long, of Roxboro. Mr. Long graduated in 2000 from Person High School and he later served seven years in the US Marine Corps during which he served two tours in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was currently attending Piedmont Community College in the Criminal Justice program and was a member of the Dan River American Legion Post 1097. Mr. Long was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wayne Joseph Long and Peggy Adams Satterfield Bowman.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Long is survived by his sister, Renea Machell Long, of Roxboro; his grandmother, Ruby Long, of Timberlake and his grandfather, Eddy Satterfield, of Raleigh; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral Services, 2 PM, Monday, Providence Baptist Church by the Rev. Dennis McDonald and the Rev. Ron McCracken. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation, 7 PM to 8:30 PM, Sunday at Providence Baptist Church.

James Thomas Guill

James Thomas Guill, age 72, of 1441 Lucy Garrett Rd. died Thursday, October 21, 2010 at his home. Born in Person County, he was the son of the late John Thomas Guill and Kennie Carr Guill. He was also preceded in death by his sister Mildred Stone. Mr. Guill had served in the NC National Guard. He was a retired correctional officer with the NC Prison System. He was a former member of the NC and Person County Law Enforcement Associations. Mr. Guill attended Somerset Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Sally Day Guill of the home; two daughters, Teresa Warren and B.J. of Roxboro, Phyllis McCracken and Randy of Martinsville, VA; two sons, Phillip Guill of the home, and John Guill, Sr., of Roxboro; two sisters, Mary Alice Guill Braswell of Henderson, NC, and Elizabeth "Libby" Guill Jennings of Hillsborough; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one aunt, Bettie Wagner.
A graveside service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday October 24, 2010 at the Day Family Cemetery on Johnny Palmer Rd. off Evelyn Day Rd. The Rev. Jimmy Pulliam will be officiating.
The Family will receive friends from 1:45 to 2:45 PM Sunday before the service at the Day Family Cemetery.

Jeannette Oliver Woody

Jeannette Oliver Woody, of Roxboro, died Monday, November 15 at Duke University Medical Center. She was born in Person County and was the daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Oliver, Sr., and Annie Lee Oliver. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Thomas J. Oliver, Jr., Bernard Oliver, Warlick Oliver, and Alfred Oliver. She was retired from C&A; after forty years of service. She was a member of Ca-Vel Baptist Church and was President of the Sr. Women's Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her husband, David Lawrence Woody of the home; one daughter, Faye Boswell Miller and husband Charlie of Roxboro; one grandson, Thomas A. Miller and wife Michele Phillips Miller of Roxboro; three great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Michele Miller, Ashlyn Grace Miller, and Andrew Thomas Miller, one sister, Mary Oliver Clayton of Roxboro.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 17 at the Ca-Vel Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Lewis Wall. Burial will follow in the Person Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Stewart, Harold Oakley, Frank Shotwell, Jimmy Tingen, Dennis Tuck, Shane Puett. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Jones, the Men's #2 Sunday School Class and the Women's Sunday School Class of Ca-Vel Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends 6:30-8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Faye, Miller, 181 Clayton Street, Roxboro, NC 27573.
Sudie Oakley Bowling

Sudie Oakley Bowling, age 91, a native of Person County and former resident of the Mt. Harmony community died Sunday, November 14. She was the daughter of the late Fitch Lee Oakley and Annie O'Briant Oakley. Mrs. Bowling and her late husband, Clyde T. Bowling were farmers for more than fifty years. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church where she was involved in many church activities until her declining health no longer permitted her to do so.
Mrs. Bowling is survived by two daughters, Jennifer J. Bowling of Durham and Joyce B. Duncan and husband Farris A. Duncan of Goldsboro; two grandchildren, Monica D. Rollins and husband, Jeffrey Rollins of Gainesville, Florida and Allen Scott Duncan and wife, Anne Laure Duncan of Lyon, France; four great grandchildren. Andrew Duncan Rollins, Michaela Anne Rollins, Hannah Grace Rollins, of Gainesville, Florida and Theo Remi Allen Duncan of Lyon, France; one sister, Shirley Oakley of Butner; and two brothers, Charlie Oakley of Roxboro, and Billy Oakley of Hillsborough. A sister, Audrey O. Thomas and brothers, Joe Oakley, Julian Oakley, Ernest Oakley, and Frank Oakley preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, November 19, at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church by the Rev. Randy Pittman and the Rev. Barry Chambers. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Family will receive friends prior to the service (12:45 PM to 1:45 PM).
Pallbearers will be Arthur Robert Oakley, C.L. Oakley, Forest Oakley, Anthony Oakley, Brad Oakley, Gordon Lunsford, Ricky Tremmel, and Reid Hughes.

Lt. Ellis Holland Hudgins Sr.

Ellis Holland Hudgins, Sr, age 82 of 1216 Ridge Road died Saturday morning at Person Memorial Hospital. Born in Person County son of the late Arthur Vernon Hudgins & Jannie Marshall Hudgins, he was retired from the Roxboro Police Dept. as a Lieutenant after 28 years of service. Mr. Hudgins was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War and was a Veteran of the US National Gaurd and was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife Gertie Bradsher Hudgins of the home, two sons Ellis Holland Hudgins, Jr. & wife Kerstin of Fayetteville & Vernon Dale Hudgins & wife Jennifer of Willow Springs, one brother Norman Hudgins of South Boston, Va, two sisters Ruth H. Ashley of Reidsville & Janie H. Bayes of Danville, Va., two grandchildren Nikolas Hudgins & Melissa Lis and two great-grandchildren Anthony Lis & Presley Lis.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday at Roxboro Baptist Church by the Rev. DuPre Sanders. Interment will follow in the Burchwood Cemetery Annex.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Roxboro Baptist Church 1:00 PM til 2:00 PM and other times at the home.
